Rest In Peace Barry Humphries, a true Australian legend! Sir Les was his finest character, despite Dame Edna taking the limelight (as good as she was!).
The characters he created were beyond brilliant, i can't think of anyone else but Barry who could dream up Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson. R.I.P.
The first time my Mum and I saw Sir Les Patterson on television, we were in shock! We didn’t realise that it was a wind-up, and thought it bizarre that this very oddly-behaved guy was a cultural attaché. I think we switched channels as the interview went on. An Australian friend later enlightened us pommy bastards that this was an alter ego of the great Barry Humphries, who we’d only ever seen as Dame Edna. Since that time, we loved watching both of these eccentric characters, and Barry Humphries as himself, of course. May the good man rest in peace, having given so many so much to laugh about.
The only man who can crack me up with just a look or facial expression , and the words, Ya know what I mean sport ".. The innuendo, unspoken words and a lift of an eyebrow or corner of his mouth .
@@croonyerzoonyer Who else could go on stage solo and do four characters ranging from a yobbo, a dead man and a woman all in one show without a break? Answer...no one...
@@croonyerzoonyer Barry was a genius, no one has ever been like him as Dame Edna especially. Dame Edna could get away with anything because of that comedic genius. A true one of a kind.
I had to point out to an aussie lady friend of mine that sir Les was well endowed. She knows now. RIP mr Humphries. Health and wisdom to all, Erik the Netherlands
I cried with laughter watching that. The presenter was trying to contain his laughter to no avail. Comedy that good goes beyond joke telling - it's like you are a part of his clique. RIP Barry Humphries.
It would have been the ultimate satire show if somehow Sir Les and Dame Edna could have been merged into a programme using all the wizardry of TV technology. Nonetheless what a brilliant comedy Barry Humphreys was in both guises. Hats off to him!
