RICHEST Burial In The America’s! Tomb Of The Lord Of Sipán

As we all know, the ancient Americas were incredibly rich, not just in their variety of cultures spanning over many millennia but they were very rich as well when it comes to their art, and not to forget all the golden splendour.
But most burials that have been discovered in the Americas were looted by grave robbers before they were discovered and excavated by the archaeologists.
However, the burials near Sipán house the richest burial ever discovered in the entirety of the Americas, the burial of the Lord of Sipán, or in Spanish; El Señor de Sipán.
If you wanna know more about the Moche culture from ancient Peru I highly suggest checking out the video on the Ancient Americas channel.

I really loved your excellent summary of this archeological site. Once again thank you for your very informative talk. I visited this site three years ago with a local archeologist. The actual site is surrounded by active sugarcane fields and village dwellings and does not quite resemble the image shown, that's ok. However the museum of lord of Sipan where all the artifacts are housed is spectacular (no cameras allowed inside). The tombs and skeletal remains and how they were found has been recreated inside. The gold & silver peanut necklace is extrordinary and suggests that not only was this crop key to them but possibly domesticated by them. The rest of the world has much to thank them for gifting us peanuts, if this is indeed so. Thank you & hope to have the privilege of visiting Egypt with you this October 🙏

I worked with Ancient Americas on his Teotihuacan video/work with other channels on Mesoamerican stuff! The Andes is something I know a bit about tangentially, but every time I see Moche art it makes me want to really dive deep into the region: The ceramics and metalwork and the murals on the Huacas is just incredible (same for Chimu metalwork and Wari/tiwanku shell/precious stone figures), including recently being able to see some of the Funerary regalia from burials like the one here during the first thime they traveled outside of Peru (some of them may have even been from this site, though not the Lord of Sipan's in particular). If you want I can shoot you some photos I took! Anyways, something I'm actually quite curious about I haven't been able to look into yet is there any any signs of ornate murals on Huaca Rajada like there are at Huaca de La Luna and Cao Viejo. I assume much of the outer portions of Huaca Rajada were erroded, but still I wonder if there were some traces of it or any on the interior, earlier construction phases that were excavated alongside the tombs. I wish I had more to say, but unlike with Mesoamerica where I can leave 12 paragraph comments, I know much less about the Andes, so that's all I've got to say. If you ever plan to cover Mesoamerica though, feel free to reach out, i'd love to help if scheduling permits, Ancient Americas can send you my info (I'm MajoraZ or Majora__Z on most places)

Greetings, Kayleigh, I am from Trujillo (city developed on top of the Moche cities by the spaniards). Just want to add some details to your video. From a very young age, back in the 70's, we would go to the Huaca de la Luna or del Sol or to Chan Chan to collect what we called "Shakiras" (not the singer, just little charms) that we would find either on the surface or by excavating with our hands, we would make necklaces and sell them to the "gringo" tourists for about 10 dollars each. They were made of bone, stone or turquoise.... That's how we got money to go later to the movies or buy petty stuff. People in their 20's or 30's would come with a shovel and look for bigger stuff, like "huacos" which are pottery in the shape of a human face.... or pots, which would fetch abut 50 or 100 dollars..... and I would say, we didn't know any better. Nobody told us that it was illegal or "not good". We learnt at school about the Moches, but not really much about not looting. Consciousness came with maturity and we formed a group to instruct schools about it. One of my neighbors made a huge collection of huacos, currently still at his house. He would specially collect the sex themed huacos. I think we are missing out on many private collections. One rich guy, probably had a conscious shock and opened a museum under his own name to show his collection to the people. This is still there in town: the "Casinelli" museum. They made our collection at the university looking really poor. By the way, "huacas" as understood by the locals are not rocks but places in which the ancient people could talk to the gods. Sort of a "Stargate" if you will. They would consume ayahuasca and talk to them in trance. There were some weird beliefs, such as the existence of "karkanchas", people with a skull face, probably un-dead, with esoteric powers.... also did a lot of human sacrifices, which saddens me, but that's what it was. Angry gods wouldn't provide food. They also made examples of loosing warriors by parading them naked and chained through town. I loved your video as it brought warm memories about my childhood. If you would like to pronounce the names of the places well in Spanish, "Huaca Rajada" is "uh-ah-ka ra-ha-da" and Lambayeque is "Lam-bah-yeh-keh" Most of the discoveries, such as the Señor de Sipan, la Señora de Cao and the Huaca de la Luna excavation came in my life time and I was very excited to see that so many things were buried where I used to roam as a kid. I also met Dr. Alba at the University of Trujillo, even though I went to Mechanical Engineering, he was always preaching about our heritage and did several reach outs and fund raisers all over our alma mater. Some people are just too good. I would make him presidente in a heart beat. Kudos to your Chanel. Of course, I am already subscribed.

hi, Kayleigh! somehow i missed this yesterday. no matter, just curious. thanks for showing us your new ink. pretty darn cool, darlin, and meaningful, too. i remember reading of this when it was found, but the info was sketchy, at the time. your presentation was much more interesting and informative. the connections of the three burials and the fact of their completeness is fascinating. to think they had not been seen for almost 1800 yrs and had not been looted, does compare with Tutahnkamuns tomb. and the oldest tomb having the best metal-work makes me wonder. great video, Klee! always enjoy time spent with you. and i'll be checking out the Ancient America site. thanks for the heads-up!

It was very evident what would happen later, Peru has the first civilization of the Americas, and later the largest empire in all of pre-Columbian America... THE INCA... The question is, why was this territory so blessed? It is the geographical location? the ancient Peruvians still have a lot to tell the world, recently I saw some famous pyramids of Paratoari in the enormous Peruvian jungle and that the government hides information... that more ancient civilizations are hidden in that territory.

Very informative video. I live in Peru and have visited both Huaca Rajada (pronounced ra-ha-da--the Spanish J sounds like an English H) and the Bruning museum in Lambayeque where the items found are displayed. As you say, they are impressive. While the Tutankhamen treasures are more spectacular (and I've seen them as well) the Señor de Sipan finds were important since they were undisturbed by 'hauqueros', or professional tomb robbers. You should visit Peru if you haven't already--there are so many interesting sites on the coast alone which your viewers might find interesting. I live in Lima and am within walking distance of one small ruin, and within biking distance of another. Your comments and explanations fit the facts known so far.

I am glad Dr Alva was able to save all of that. One day the looted items will return.

Very cool video. It is so cool that they found tombs that robbers hadn't raided. It should provide many years of research material. Plus some that can be displayed and shown to the world. The craftsman who built the jewelry and armor were amazing. Love that green on you and the top is very cool. Very cool ink young lady.
