Stephen and Ritchie were great singers together. I felt they were the signature of BS, even with all the great songs that Neil contributed. Always felt there was unfinished business there. Ritchie would have been great as part of Manassas.
interesting tidbit... The Guess Who recorded and released "Flying on the Ground" as a single in Canada in 1967. This version changes a lot of chords from the Buffalo Springfield version.
Thats quite a story about Gram Parsons. I never knew they knew each other, its amazing they never formed a band. Its funny that doesnt sound like a Young song it has Furay written all over it. Im really amazed that it wasnt his own.
Virtually all of the 70s American counter culture rock/folk guys and gals showed up in Laurel Canyon in the mid 1960's, nobody knows how or why , but u name them , they were there, and hence they all knew each other, that includes musician, Icons, directors, producers and badboys (Charlie Manson), all on some worthless desert land, which is where 'Lookout Mountain Air force Station, (currently owned by Jerod Leto ??? Oddly enough) is located. There was no music scene there prior to 1964 whatsoever. David (Van Courtland) Crosby, who needless to say, comes from a aristocratic bloodline tracing back to the 17th century, Merging 2 wealthy bloodlines, was the first to 'arrive' there in about 1963-64, forming 'The Byrds', American Version of the Beatles, and then CSN(Y) the next American version of the Beatles. quite an irony and/or coincidence!! Even Jim Morrison was there, Jims father who was a Navy Admiral, played a large role in the 'Gulf Of Tonkin' Incident starting Vietnam war, Jim always failed to talk about this, Jim M went to kindergarten with Adelaide Gail Sloatman (Frank Zappas future Wife) in Fairfax Virginia, (near Pentagon/D.C) who also coincidently landed at Laurel Canyon for no known reason, working at the Whiskey Go Go (which opened in Jan 1964), where she would meet a lot of soon to be famous people, .., lots of interesting connections, love to ask Richie about what really went on over there??
