Agreed, but they knew he wasn't coping with all that loss. Sad thing is if John/Jon's daughter went to the hospital the minute he was to start a show, he would have chosen the show.
He actually did the wrong thing. Not turning up for a show and pulling out of a world tour in the middle when he has already committed himself to it. But the worst of all is that after 30 years he didn't even has the class or balls to tell the members of the band himself. Shocking lack of respect and selfishness , shame on Richie.
@@doyler9167 bs. Jon blamed Richie when he left and said his " reason " was family. Jon said there was no other reason. Richie has said more than once, as well as others have said, it was Jon the control freak. Jon denied that then literally said later in the interview it was his band and he had control.
Richie is absolutely spot on. At some point in your life you will make one decision that will affect your family and friends. Richie sounds like he made the right decision,100%. You can touch the hearts of all your fans with the right song, but you can touch your family with the right decision. Well done Richie, nice one.
@@jimmalmstrom6593 ...and if you don't think he walked out mid tour on his own, ask jon how the current touring and singing is going for him. I'll guarantee jon begged sambora to come back.
He left at the START of a tour to be with a 16 year old daughter -the age when they just want to spend time with their friends ? Be serious. The story has got multi layered over the years, the closest to the truth was revealed in the acid tweets made in the 1st few weeks of the split. He was clearly paid off to keep Jons sqeaky clean image- you can publicly whinge and get nothing or you can take the cash and go with the story-what would you do ?
I recently heard an interview with Jon Bon Jovi who said that playing in front of 70,000 screaming fans and then going back to his hotel room to silence was a lonely experience. I also recently heard Scott Stapp, former frontman for Creed, also say that performing at an arena every night and always having to deliver a great performance is tremendous pressure. I also read that Richie had injured his shoulder from a fall during his final tour with Bon Jovi and was forced to take painkillers just so he could perform onstage. He didn't want to let the guys or the fans down. I'm sure that was tremendous pressure as well. Imagine having to live with that pressure for 30 years while constantly being away from family for long periods of time. It seems that Richie is at peace with his decision to leave Bon Jovi.
Good for Ritchie for being a dedicated & caring dad! Money can't replace those lost moments with his daughter while he was touring all the time. He made her a priority, that's commendable. Nice to see him happy.
Thats not why he isnt with bon jovi anymore, He cant handle the enormous arenas statiums & colosseums etc, When he lost Jovi he put a band together he didn't become father of the year. He lets everyone down & yet IDK, but I wouldnt want him around anything that truly matters.
@@winter7870Yeah, I agree that Sambora didn't want to deal with the big production & commitment of long world tours with Bon Jovi anymore. He quit - he wasn't fired by Jon. Ritchie did spend time with his daughter, who really needed/wanted him around, because Heather was kind of a mess with drugs/arrests at the time. When Ritchie joined forces with Orianthi (RSO), he looked happy & their music was good together. Ritchie also has said he doesn't regret leaving Bon Jovi at all.
His daughter was born in 1997, and he quit BJ in 2013, so he'd already chosen to miss her first 16 years of life, when he was 38-54 years old. Shame really. And now the women he's dating (Orianthi) is only 12 years older than his daughter! A 62 year old dating a 36 year old (26 year difference) - weird.
Richie left the year I was going to see Bon Jovi live for the first time. So it was like someone ripped my balls out of my body when he just left. I felt hurt, even though I never even met the guy in person. But I'm happy that he is happy, he is one of my biggest idols so I just want him to be happy at the end of things. Love you King, I'm waiting for the fourth solo record
What a great dad. It was a great pleasure to have meet Richie,in Vancouver, while Bon Jovi was recording Slippery when Wet. He came into the club one night. Was brave enough to walk up and strike a conversation. Not many people knew them then.
Why are people so selfish, your ideal band is with Richie in it, but Richie's ideal life was with his family in it. And unfortuantely you can't do both. Not saying it is related but look at Jon's daughter doing drugs and stuff, maybe if her father was there it woulnd't happen.
honestly, bon jovi hadn't been a band for a long time. ever since they went country and then more pop. it never felt like a real band but rather a business. richie i think felt he wasn't getting many of his ideas through and wanted to just go back to their strengths. then when his ex-wife heather was having mental issues. yeah, his daughter needed him and i'm glad he left to be with his daughter. a man is not a man if he doesn't spend time with his family. bon jovi w/o richie is just another brand. not a real band.
Richie was the soul and magic of Bon Jovi. I can't wait to hear his new music! The man still has an amazing voice!! I don't know why he is so overlooked on all the "Greatest Guitar Player" lists!!! He only wrote one of the most recognized riffs in history and how many millions of fans picked up a guitar to learn that Wanted guitar riff!!! He is an amazing artist and human being. Much love Richie!!!
All I see is people yarping on about giving recognition to Jon, and made the wrong decision la di da! Dude was in a band as a JOB! he has now left that JOB is is happier for it, who cares his reasons.....happiness is more important than any job!
But Jon doesn't live in his mother's basement. Richie let the band down several times with no notice and Phil X has replaced him. They have moved on and it's about time that Richie realises that.
When Richie says being a parent is number one he really means it. He couldn’t stop talking about his daughter and from everything he said he’s parenting her very well. He’s such a Cancerian. I love the guy!
As a person that knows him from work,i can tell you,Richie is such a humble man and loves his daughter so much and is proud of her achievements ,and isnt a fake,100% real and remembers where he came from

I smiled through this entire interview! Always a Richie Sambora fan, I couldn't be prouder of him or happier for him - and his beautiful, daughter Ava. I wish them all the best!
I’m not a very good guitar player by any stretch of the imagination, but Richie is the guy who made me want to pick up the instrument and learn enough to have a good time with it. Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, Slash, John 5, and Dave Mustaine are my favorite guitarists, but it was Richie that made me love the instrument first
He is a one off for sure since he is an only child. Could you imagine if his parents had more kids...wow! I'm glad his Dad lived long enough to see his fame. He's lucky to still have his Mom. He is awesome!
Great moment in time with Mr Sambora!! So endearing. Beautiful words from a beautiful heart.....and oh so wonderful that he is such a great Dad with a great daughter!💝👧💖

Listening to Richie as Proud Papa is a side all of his fans havent seen. Very heartwarming. He doesnt take the job of Dad lightly. Sooo Cool. Sorry you retired from Bon Jovi but everyone needs to take timeout for themselves to enjoy their other interests after being on the road all these years. But, glad to here you havent quit music all together. Oh and by the way, daughter looks exactly like her mom. You two have a beautiful daughter.

Richie you didn’t lose any true fans, we are still here. You brought so much to Bon Jovi, and they certainly have not been anywhere near as good, as what the band was with you. Your writing, singing, and musical talents are unique and special. You’re teaching your daughter what every parent(s) should be teaching theirs. That’s our job as parents, to lead by example and guide our children to be good inside and out, and contribute to society instead of being a dredge off of society. Although I know it must’ve been incredibly hard to leave the band, your selfless act was obviously a good solid decision. Many times the simplest times and things, end up being the best and most rewarding. And you can still follow where your talents take you, but at your pace. You’ve worked very hard. Take time to enjoy the spoils of your hard work. I’ve loved your previous albums. I’m going to go see if your new album is out and get it if so. I’m so happy you have such a wonderful relationship with your daughter. I have the same with my kids. Much love and blessings to you. I am a forever fan.
@@TheGodYouWishYouKnew I'd have to disagree. Have a nice day was a great album and so was These days.. They were still writing good songs and Ritchie was sounding great. It wasn't till that last album with the new guitarist that shir went stale
@@whitelivesmatter6864 These days was good but that was a long time ago now. I didn’t care for Have a Nice Day, except for last man standing and who says you can’t go home. After that, they went pop country and then completely pop. Richie wasn’t happy with the direction of the band by that point.

He doesn’t look or sound well. This makes me sad b/c I really like him. He sounds like he has dementia or some neuro-cognitive impairment from alcohol or drugs.
I always thought Richie should have got more vocal time in Bon Jovi he had some range which he never got to really show it go listen to never say goodbye demo Richie is on lead vocals IMO I think Richie is a better singer than Jon but Jon was amazing too long live cowboy Richie 🤘😎
Richie is a good soul and a fantastic musician. Can't wait to listen to his new album. I feel he has so much more to give as a solo artist... On the other hand, Bon Jovi seems to have reached its top. Since Richie left the band has fallen apart and doesn't have anything of quality to offer.
Good for Richie always liked him.. Bon Jovi was never my favorite band,, I like them, but I always thought Richie was the most talented one in there. And a great guitar player and singer
Richie is the reason I picked up a guitar in 1991, and his first solo album Stranger in this Town, in my opinion the best rock/blues album ever!! I honestly don't know what I would do if I ever got a chance to meet him? I mean so many emotions I share with him through his music, both with Bon Jovi and his solo stuff. It's one of those scenarios where someone would have to tell me to shut up by I would ramble on incoherently to him about how much his music has meant to me and my life. Musicians like him only come along once in a generation. And thankfully for him, he was able to hit the music industry at just the right time with Bon Jovi in the 80's ....and the rest is historyA
Love, love, love Richie Sambora. I grew up listening to Bon Jovi and always thought he seemed like a guy who you can shoot the shit with....down to earth. My type of people (:
I never looked at Mr. Sambora as a Guitar God until this year. I revisited his music through making a folder in my iPod and blasting it in my car. He is a truly gifted musician and the song Dry County is Fantastic. I now study his solos in hopes of capturing some of his soul and feeling in my own playing. GREAT player he is! Thanks for the years. I did see him live however in the years 1982-86. Still remember the catwalks high above that stage!
I saw him on one of those European outdoor festivals a couple years ago. He did a few of the old Bon Jovi hits and didn't miss a beat. He sounded just as good without Bon Jovi as he ever did with them.
I’m so glad to read what I’ve been thinking for a very long time. Jon has no voice and it’s embarrassing that he continues. Richie has an incredible voice. I also love Richie’s candour during an interview instead of a scripted same answer every interview type! Best of luck, Richie xo
Richie is an Italian boy from jersey who knew he had to tske care of his daughter because of all the issues heather het mother was going though richie is old school his daughter came first
As a fan, I am disappointed, very disappointed. I know that bon jovi wouldn't be the same anymore without a Richie Sambora. But, as a father, I can see it. I know how it feels, I know what it takes to be a father. -From bon jovi fans in Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
First, I love Richie. Richie Sambora has definitely been one of my favorite guitarists for more than a quarter of a century. But to be fair, I am already tired of him keeping explaining himself through the years. Of course it's not that I don't trust any word from him, and I sure believe it when he says the time with his daughter has always been considered so important, but it's seemed like he's kept saying excuses for his misbehaviour on that night. Rest of the members all got children to spend time with too but Richie says like he's the only one who got a kid. Don't make other members look foolish and irresponsible. I don't think they've made bad fathers. Above all, Richie still never apologizes to the band members that he was with for amazing 30 years and to the millions of fans officially. (Do I know wrong?) I still think that the proper apology had to come first before all of those explanations. He behaved like totally an immature person for that matter and it still seems so. What kind of professional doesn't appear on the show already scheduled? Jon could sue Richie for that but Jon never did. Did Richie ever think about that possibility and still doesn't appreciate Jon's patience? Richie actually embarrassed all engaged and even caused actual huge damage to the band, the crew and the audience. At least, Richie could make an official announcement about his intention of leaving Bon Jovi after the show if he was really desperate to leave the band and go spend time with her daughter right now. He just didn't appear. What's that. Maybe he was so drunk that day that he just couldn't make it to the show but he couldn't face what happened 'cause he was afraid. I still don't think there can be a room for the excuse for not appearing on the show that night. Even the big love for his beautiful daughter cannot justify the incident. Before it, I always thought I liked Richie a bit more than Jon. But I don't any more. To sum up, Richie made a serious mistake but he never apologized to anyone for that properly, just keeps trying to justify why he had to leave the band, while Jon and other guys in the band have tried to swallow what he did to them. That easily says Jon has more class than Richie. I still love Richie Sambora but I also had to let some bitter words out this time because this same boring kind of interview in 2020 is quite embarrassing, and, yeah, because I love Richie Sambora. Don't get me wrong. I truly get your love and affection for your amazing daughter but please don't be disrespectful to the band you were in any more. Heard enough because you spoke it all the time. Still love and respect the legacy of Bon Jovi made with Sambora though.
Dude if you read into it Richie wanted to be gone of Bon Jovi for a long time ago. Cause Bon jovi stopped being a band since around the early 2000s and became the Jon show. If you even look at the band now even David Bryan is out and having a break, he didn't leave because of the addiction he left because he was tired of being 2nd fiddle and covering up for Jons ass all tour like he did for the past 30 or so years. And you even see on the shows how much Richie covered Jon on a shitton of songs
I’m sure a lot more went off no doubt Jon aint as nice as he comes across I’m sure it was his way or the highway at end of day they all hired hands David will be next to go sad for Jon but it’s clear the band are just not all together today creatively Jon has never sounded so bad writing songs but his melodies don’t show much the guitar solos are almost non existent
he's a good man. congrats for doing that for his family... at the end of the day only your family will be there for you. not money, not fans, not people going around you only because you're a famous man... wish you a happy life richie. i'm proud of you . been listening to your song since the 80's

@@nataliejones8308 • Me too, the 2 of them together were a force to be reckoned with. Some of the best melodies, lyrics and guitar solo’s were created by Bon Jovi (as a band). Yep i wasnt left behind l followed that lead guitar work and discovered those vocals. The dude was in the shadows all those years. Now i relish skills and vocals combined.
He says he left the band to be with his daughter and because of the toll from excessive touring, but a couple months later goes on a European/Australasian tour with the blonde he was chasing. I had alot of respect for Richie but leaving the band they way he did was ridiculous. Not only for the members of the band but for the tens of thousands of fans who paid money to him live with Bon Jovi in 2013. Personally, Bon Jovis last 2 albums have been some of my favourite. Phil X is so much more lively on the stage and you can tell is enjoying every second of it. Alot of people won't agree but thats the way I see it.
Richie, he’s no stranger in this town. Guitar is a very addictive hobby , career. Being a Dad trumps all, but in the free quite moments, where is that guitar. Great man this guy, great musician, stellar guitarist. An example to follow for any guitar player. Thanks Richie.

I understand a lot of people are angry and sad that Richie is not with Bon Jovi anymore but it really his business and his reasons for for leaving. He doesn't owe anyone anything. Richie is an icon, legend, and one of the best guitarist to ever play. Jon would take him back in a heart beat because that is how badly I feel Bon Jovi (especially Jon) needs him if that day were to ever come.
Richie, IMO, is the heart and soul of Bon Jovi. So whenever Jon decides he doesn't want to tour anymore, hopefully Richie comes back. BUT, Phil X should be there as well. He's the consummate pro and he saved the day for the band when Richie called it quits
@@csi2448 they should've retire with The Circle release. That was their last decent album. Richie not being in Bon Jovi is just horrible, but imagine BJ without Jon. He might have shot his voice, but both of them were the leaders of the band. It's all about chemistry. It wouldnt work even if it was just Richie.
@@csi2448 Actually, Jon is the heart and soul of Bon Jovi. He is the one who created that band and who has worked his ass off for that band to succeed. What irritates me slightly since he left the band is his inability to give Jon any credit. Yes he wrote Living on a Prayer. But so did Jon and Desmond Child. Jon frequently refers to Richie's writing. Whatever their relationship now, he simply acknowledges the reality that Richie was a huge part of his success. Sadly, Richie doesn't seem to want to acknowledge Jon's part in his success. And to be fair, I guess you could argue that both of them should give Desmond Child due credit.

not an issue. they all still love each other. I don't know why people think there is supposed to be a forever thing between people who have worked together for years. NO. life goes on. you need both feet in the future. the BEST years of Jon Bon Jovi is over. gone.
Richie owes me $500. I had tix row 8 Richie's side for the show in Calgary that he bailed on with no warning. All I got was a show that started 45 minutes late, no Richie and super pissed off Jon. Thanks for nothing, Sambora.
That's right. Especially when they came back after a three weeks break. I don't question that he left, I question the way he did it. He was coward and selfish with his bandmates, the crew, the promoter and mainly with the fans that paid to see him too. He had a couple of weeks to let everyone know before hand and he chose the same night he was expected to return.
