This evening I heard Jean Efflam Bauvet play Reflets dans l'eau as an encore (to Bartok's Concerto No. 1) and it sent me back to this Richter recording. What a great evening! Thank you!
Commento da profano. Il grande Richter , rispetto ad ABM sembra scappare al tocco dellele note.non vi è l intensità magica, perfetta, divina del Ns Genio.Con ABM anche la nota più breve fa fermare il suono, il tempo, si esalta.
Even the great Richter can sometimes get it wrong. Reflets dans l'eau is taken much, much too fast -- it needs more freedom in the phasing, too. The performance, though technically as perfect as we're ever likely to hear, ends up sounding perfunctory. Not so, however, with either of the other two pieces. Homage a Rameau is probably the most profound homage to grief that we have in all of musical literature. And Richter does a very fine job with it. He also does a wonderful rendition of Mouvement.
