This is a situation that happens to me all the time when mixing live bands. And it kills me hearing out of tune 808 bass lines. I don't understand how people can't hear when instruments are out of tune. The dissonance is ridiculously obvious.

He just means that one or more of the strings on the guitar is not in tune with the rest of the strings. He's not talking about standard tuning or some obscure tuning that was done on purpose. He simply means one of the strings is slightly off from where it's supposed to be.

If I ever actually manage to have kids, I ain't ever forcing or even implying them they should do shit or shaming them if they don't in terms of hobbies. Frankly it seems the fastest way of driving children away from something (and giving them anxiety problems about failing to live up to your expectations). I totally understand. Actually just write about this in a Journal. Imagine teaching a student to play an instrument on an cheap instrument and there are just a handful notes that are out of tune…… that student is at rush of building a false sense of pitch that will persist well into their musical career.

He wasn't dissing autotune in this case but he is right, people expect or are used to hearing perfectly pitched vocals and perfect grid timing. And he is using the correct terminology for tuning as well so maybe he is crazy but not about that lol

I was a fan of Weaver especially for calling out scam artist producers, but it seems like he is just becoming another "Drama RU-vidr". I'm not the biggest Beato fan by any means, but the man has had success in multiple fields. He may not be hip to new styles, but you will be there someday too Weaver. Rick is spot on about Autotune, though. If you use it as a vocal effect for its sound, fine (I guess), but producers use it (and Melodyne) on everything now to iron out all the small pitch inaccuracies that make voices sound human and unique, which will only encourage fatigue (because everything sounds too polished and perfect) and under-appreciation of *real* singers.

He is just going crazy because the younger generation are not as used to string instruments as we where and they don't hear the expression "out of tune " that often. It is really funny to watch actually, I remember when I was a kid and someone explained what is out of tune and how to observe something like that, that shit burnt itself into my mind forever.. now I hear sour shit everywhere ahahah! I think he is surprised that a lot of people kind of have tin ears, or a kinder way to say it is. They dont have the kind of listening training many musicians do however I know from my own experience I can hear something is out of tune even when other people (not musicians or even some musicians) cant hear the same as i do. For me it was always natural/ but for many it isnt. I think I understand that now. I get what he is saying. The slightest thing out of tune for me is like fingernails on a chalkboard good bad or indifferent, I just assumed that most people can hear if something is flat or sharp or just completely out of the ballpark. Also keep in mind that something can be in tune but not in concert pitch, as long as the tuning of said instrument is "in tune with it's self", not necessarily concert pitch. I am a little shocked people are confused about what he is explaining?

Ironically I get what he is saying and what weaver is saying. People not knowing what variations and swing is because we mostly work to a grid (rather pitch or time) in most modern music so it's less human feeling. Also, at some point you have to understand that technology is a tool not the art. How you use it is totally up to you, t pain uses auto tune as an effect not as a fix to not being able to sing.

He should be in a retirement home, when I get like that I hope my family puts me in a retirement home . It's unlikely as none of them speak to me.

I sent him numerous emails explaining that I'm doing all of those things and even breaking new ground as a writer ( I have a min of two DISTINCT versions of every song I write HE NEVER gets back to me , is this hypocritical or selfish or I don't know what ? He is part of the problem if he's not lifting a finger to expose unknown artists AT ALL who might be on to something

Most auto-tuned music sounds like garbage, and no one should feel an ounce of remorse for screaming that from a rooftop. Just because someone is older doesn't mean they don't have functioning eardrums. Between click tracks and autotune, a lot of folks have a warped view of what music should sound like.

yeah uh western music is a tradition of pitches, there are no actual pitches for sound without cultural relativism just frequencies that have been assigned pitches because people liked them but those pitches changed over time but have been relatively standard since wwII. Anway note difference is a mathematical relationship, but for guitar music there are current norms, but no there is no 100% correct pitch but there are tuners that probably tune to a440. Obviously if you are trying to play someone elses song you will probably aim to play the same frequencies as them. Nah pro guitarists actually tune up their guitars and change old strings etc.. there is actually some very detailed technical aspects to having your guitar ready for recording.

Beato is kinda wrong IMO. You don't tune a guitar to itself, you tune it to the music you intend to play. Sure, it'll be a standard tuning most of the time, but that doesn't make every other tuning "out of tune", even if it happens to sound bad when you strum all the strings.

If you don't play a string instrument it probably doesn't make sense how off pitch one string would make. Other instruments song don't have that issue. I wouldn't know though. I've never heard the song.
