Hi Steve, I won Grand Champion at Oshkosh with my F1 Rocket so it was almost as nice as my Fastback 8. In today’s world I would choose to build an RV ‘anything’ over the Rocket for a number of reasons. -insurance on the F1 is about triple of the RV -F1 long titanium gear legs even with stiffeners can be quite wobbly on the ground. They splay in/out a lot which causes excessive tire wear even with the best alignment -F1 EVO wing….I have flown them and although they look cool but I would never own one….totally different during aerobatics….wasn’t for me. Plus the tips look like an afterthought IMO -resale….much broader market for RV -parts availability
Hi Rick, When you showed the boxed in ends of the control surfaces would you mind describing exactly how you achieved the smooth, totally enclosed look. Thank you. Excellent workmanship!
This was the most stunning RV at Oshkosh.. what engine, empty weight? Cruise speeds? I want to incorporate that fastback slider on my-8.. still early in construction..
This is why I buy and don't build. I could never put this in to a plane. I would pay Rick to build and I would fly it away. Excellent workmanship!!! Love the picture of Jesus in there.
Rick. That plane is a beaut! Have you thought about building a 14? I’m planning out my first build and I’m stuck between the 8 and 14.. mostly because the wife wants to sit next to me
Is the fastback of your own design, or are there plans or kits available for this? I really like the storage shelf use of space in the fastback. Very nice looking plane!!
Showplanes makes a Fastback kit which has a flip over canopy. I wanted a slider so I used the aft bulkheads band turtledeck from the Showplanes kit and I modified Vans slider frame to make mine into a true slider Fastback. I made a rear turtledeck shelf in my F1 Rocket and just did the same thin on my 8.glad you like it :-)
