I love your videos and I'm currently planing to build an RV-8 myself. You sharing this is perfect timing! I also had planed to make diagonal side panels! Thank you for sharing!
Wow! What a beautiful build. Very nicely done. Are you an engineer by trade? I noticed the CAD-cut instrument panel and the laser level on the forward cowl. I figured those might be tricks of the trade? Or perhaps, those are standard RV build techniques? Regardless, it’s apparent that your efforts paid off handsomely.
When you are building a plane you have to prove it is airworthy. This is done more or less similar in different countries. For me there was a licensed mechanic who looked over the different sections at different times during the build and signed up my work. This together with the final inspection of the completed plane and comments or opinion of a counceler is the basis for the certification. Of course there is always a remaining risk like on everything you do.
Also, because he made his and custom-built it himself outside of a factory, the plane is considered an 'experimental' for legal reasons to put it aside from other factory built aircraft. Good question!
Great video. I have watched it several times, at 5:49 minutes in to it, there is what looks like a fuel cap or access on right side of aircraft above the "T". Could you explain better what I'm looking at? I am interested.
