Especially since a lot of people go through such great lengths to conceal who helped them, in whichever capacity. This man literally asked for his band to come in. It wasn't like they just showed up either and he had to explain who they were. You've seen famous people recently? They act like they're some super genius one man show. They hardly ever thank anybody. It's extremely obvious though that they mostly are helped rather than contributing, whereas Rick contributed most of all but still always took the time to thank even those that played a minor role.
Basically, the interviewer asked him where the band was and gave him the opportunity to put them in the background. But yes, rick then brought them into the picture.
I saw a new interview with Kenny the trumpet player Rick introduced here. They asked him about why they wore so much glitter . He said that when he opened his trumpet case recently he found glitter inside it from back in the day . True story
Was Rick James a Great Musician and Performer who was addicted to Cocaine? YES! Did he live the Life that all Gangster Rappers dream of? YES! Was he actually a Tough Guy in Real Life? YES! Was he Great? YES!!!
This was the Rockpalast festival in Essen Germany in 1982 . It was the first time Rick and his band performed in Europe www.rockpalastarchiv.de/rn10_e.html
People only know Rick from the Chappell’s Show, but dude was a straight up musical genius. He was sooo talented as a producer, musician, performer. He had his demons, but he earned his place in music history. He was just as talented as Prince, Quincy, Barry Gordy. I wish brothers still played in a band, instead of the current hip hop. Soul Brothers who play the funk, Rock and Roll, and the blues.
Goddamn this interviewer is a lost breed... think about this shit, he's doing a live interview, off the cuff, in two languages, acting as translator, and is smooth as hell while doing it. Most modern day hosts can't even do an interview this good in ONE language without a TELEPROMPTER.
I became an adult in the 70s and 80s, and it was the best time. Everybody got along, no crack, no rap, women were fine, wore hot clothes, clubs were hoppin every night, nobody shootin em up, and they were dressed lookin good, no gangsters, no pants down to the crack of their asses. Great times
Theoriginal thinker yep. And I could be a handsome well-dressed guy then with a good gait and getting all the women without being labelled gay. Nowadays a real man has to be dirty and shabby, else you are weird.
I was 18 and went to my first concert at the amphitheater in Chicago in 1981. Rick lit the place on fire. He is my favorite artist period and a musical genius and legend.
Man the 70s and 80s was reckless. It looked fun but damn, I see why so many of its stars passed away early...they lived life on the edge. It ain't for everybody.
YOU CAN BE HEALTHY,HAVE WHITE TEETH, AND BE ....do not pull my thang...Lanice, Tom Mc Dermot, all Stone City Band is Alive and thay look good!!! Thay was in fantastic condition and thay look natural.
Bob James Its not so much Cocaine, it was his love for Mary Jane thatkilled him. Watch him on his last studio sessions, to see just what a messhe was in.
Gotta say the interviewers English is awesome and how he can remember to relay it in German meanwhile keeping the vibe going and keeping everyone feeling welcome
Respect for making sure the entire band got recognition too. He is also very articulate and we'll spoken, which is certainly hard when you are speeding your brains out. Chappelle really got this one, especially as far as his looks goes.
What a King, so handsome and soooo talented. Fabulous band, I hope the concert is on RU-vid. So some comments negative about glitter, I hope they educate themselves about this era of music and how Rick James rules as a King and his legacy lives on. He is still underated I'm guessing due to the fact that a few black comedians thought it would be ok to tear him down to make a fast buck then support him into recovery.. RIP King Rick James ❤️❤️
If you're going to do Rick James at least be fine, sexy, manly. Please don't short change him. He paid his dues. Good Bad or ugly. He's paid in full.! Much Love and respect.! Rip Rick. James.
+Lizzie Beth That was one super skilled interviewer. He was addressing the audience in two languages, remembering all the details so he could repeat them accurately in german (which he did rather well, i think), and all the while kept his flow going the whole time, rattling off one good question after another.
Its really funny he disrespected the Murphy Brothers so damn much yet also loved them and their mother so damn much. He was a Line Stepper. A Habitual Line Stepper.
Yes he was. My friend was a longtime girlfriend of his from Buffalo. That gurl was crazy cool. She was beautiful but after a few, she would turn into a brawler! She would show out in a minute! Always repping Riick & Buffalo. BJ?
+Dan Zena "Entertainment acts" (they are in no way musical groups) are there to be marketed and bought into, they are not artists, they are brands and as such have to act, look, sound and be a certain way so their targeted audience doesn't vanish.
We actually have a lot of history. Grover Cleveland is from there. McKinley was assassinated here. We were the first city with electric street lights. Millard Fillmore spent time here. The precursor to the NAACP was established 45 minutes north of us. Dubois actually wanted to establish it here. The War of 1812 was fought here; the British actually burned the city down. The underground railroad runs through here. There's a lot but those are just a few tid-bits.
The legendary Rick James. :~) His outfit is killer. Only he could pull that off and still look cool! The blond, white guitar player at 4:44 is so wasted! Look at his eyes, lol. That German interviewer is very good. A million times better than the TV muppets running amok nowadays.
