Right. Today we'd call that sexual assault if they're too drunk to consent. Yes, the fact is that each person should know their limits with alcohol. However, *ethically* (as in what people ought to do), I always do my best to keep my friends from wandering away with a "random" when I see they're wasted. If I know a friend becomes too unhinged when they drink, I don't continue to go out somewhere with them where I'd feel morally responsible to watch their back because I feel that friendship does mean having each other's sixes, and some people have a messy pattern of behavior when they drink that can be dangerous for everyone with them. Not partying with someone like that is also a choice that requires taking responsibility for one's actions. So basically, I'd say the friends weren't wrong in reality, but ethically, they were lame.
