2:00 "the thing that the audience wants is the best thing they can get" OMG this totally changes my mindset about perfectionism.
@dmtdreamz7706
@dmtdreamz7706 3 месяца назад
It puts you into a state where nothing matters in a good way. You truly don't give a shit about anything and you're just happy as fuck as a result, because nothing matters. Nothing matters, nothing means anything, there's nothing to do, there's no point, there's no goal but there's also no boredom, there's no negative meanings attached to the meaninglessness, it's just perfectly meaningless and it's awesome. You're basically just like sitting like a cat on a windowsill enjoying whatever experience is before it, just being and it feels amazing. 🦄
@claudiamanta1943
@claudiamanta1943 3 месяца назад
Nonsense. Being a wise cat matters to you. Speaking of meaning…If my meaning means nothing for the others, there is always The Beyond the Horizon of this shit world, where there is a chance that I will live a shared meaningful way of existing in a non- corporeal form of sorts. This world is not an illusion, but it’s full of illusions and delusions. The Beyond is a mystery full of possibilities. A true adventure. This life is like watching an atrocious movie at the cinema. I don’t care that I’ve got fooled and paid for ticket, I am not glued to the chair, so I’m leaving. When respect is no longer served, it’s time to leave. Fuck it.

Key insights 🎨 The question for artists is not whether they are the next da Vinci, but whether they are improving every day and striving to be the best they can be. 💡 We have the power to make different choices in our lives and change things that aren't bringing us joy or happiness. 🎨 The audience comes last in the creative process because making something for someone else undermines it. 🎨 Sometimes, breaking the rules is necessary to create something special in art. 💡 Trying a completely different way can lead to creative growth and prevent limiting beliefs. 💡 The creative spirit is eternal and forever, and engaging in different creative practices can improve them all. 🎶 Don't wait for perfection, just start creating and practicing - "There's nothing that you can't do you may not have done it yet." TLDR: Artists should focus on improving their skills and striving to be the best they can be, rather than comparing themselves to others or seeking validation from an audience. 1. 00:00 🎨 Continuously strive to improve as an artist every day. 2. 00:25 💡 We have the power to make different choices in our lives to bring joy and happiness and to live in an engaged and artful way. 3. 01:16 🌱 The way we live impacts our ability to create, and putting the audience first can water down our art. 4. 02:57 🤔 Different doesn't always mean better, but it's not necessarily worse either; you have to experience it to know. 5. 03:25 👁 Break rules and go beyond norms to create something special in art, and don't lose perspective while doing so. 6. 04:19 🌱 Trying different ways and experimenting with new palettes will help you grow creatively and find what works best for you. 7. 05:30 💡 Creativity is eternal and forever, and engaging in different creative practices can improve all of them, with energy being the first thing to top out. 8. 06:33 🚀 Believe in your potential, practice consistently, and treat your creative pursuits as a hobby to grow and share your work with others.

People who are not artists, and even some artists, don't realize most artists like, love, need FREEDOM. I don't think most get it. If I primarily paint abstract but decide I'm bored, let me try modern art or pottery. People week say, Oh... what are you doing???? No no no. Stay in your lane. We love you there. Or if I'm a country singer and I decide to do reggae. "What's she doing? I'm no longer a fan. Stay in your genre." But I'm an artist. I like being creative. I like taking risks. I like change. I like trying and saying oops. That didn't work. Or wow, would you look at that! It worked!

Wise words. The way I express myself musically is quite a narrow subset of a certain genre. Almost every time I improve that expression in some way is when I either do something completely different than that, or when I work with someone else. Without those, I often create music that is sort of a pastiche of what I've created before. Even when it's a good pastiche, of something I made 3 years ago it has still has less and less value for me every time it loops over. But, when I do something else, almost no matter what, or work with someone else and in both cases I have to learn new techniques and expand my thinking THEN when I go back to my usual music it always comes out as better and stronger than ever before. As a simple example, the drums have most focus in my own art and then I create other music that has no drums or where the vocals have most focus, then going back to my own, drum-heavy music I often find the process I just went through improved both the drums AND the other elements in my own music.

I'm one of those people who prefer the process of getting 80% of the way to perfection and then starting something new. Those last 20% to achieve perfection are a grind for me, and better suited to other people.
@confuseddad2865
@confuseddad2865 3 месяца назад
Also perfection is subjective right? So then who decides what the last 20% is? This is interesting because there are diminishing returns.
@brushstroke3733
@brushstroke3733 3 месяца назад
@@confuseddad2865 In art yes, but in production of widgets, no. In the case of making art, the artist knows when they're "80%" there, which of course is entirely subjective. If you're making computers, TVs, t-shirts, spoons, etc., then 80% means that for every 100 you make, 80 meet the specifications. It's pretty much the same with service metrics - 80% in the airline industry means 80 out of 100 travelers gets where they are going on time and safely. Eeking out those last 20% (or last 19.999994%) is the grind Imwas referring to. No process in 100% perfect except art where perfection is indeed entirely subjective.

Same with me. I hear you. I reeeeeally do. I've been on the edge and past the point of desperate most of my life. 14 years ago, on the verge of a physical and emotional breakdown, I received the most helpful, but stupid, advice I ever got. It was from a coworker, "Why don't you draw during your lunch break?" I SO wanted to punch her in the face. I tried it (drawing, not punching her in the face), against what I thought was my better judgment. What did I have to loose that I hadn't already lost? FF to 2023, the year I quit my day job to be a full-time artist. Lots of twists and turns and leaps of faith. I'm still disabled, I'm not monetarily rich, but I'm no longer dirt poor, my time is my own and I have a fulfilling creative outlet. Free at LAST! Hallelujah! I guess my advice would be (you were actually seeking advice, right?) keep chunking and chiseling away at that huge, ugly, immovable stone that is your life right now. Keep believing that there's a work of art in there somewhere--because there is (it's YOU!). I promise! And you can watch Shawshack Redemption if you don't know how to chisel away little by little. Great movie. That's all I got. Hope it helps. Oh, wait! I got one more! That thing that is your disability... It might turn out to be your greatest strength. Try to stay open to that possibility.
