Rick had an idea to quickly lift shingles to the roof. There are other expensive & time consuming ways. But this is fast. Great for a one time lift. Thank you Terry for your help.
I’m a business owner. Not this business but if I was. Fuck the foreman. I approve of this. If it was a last resort. Personally if I was in the business for that. Ild make sure to expand enough to purchase a conveyor rig that hauls it all up on belt and not have to screw with any of that. Eventually if your expanded enough. More than a crew and the work is their the truck will pay for itself. But I wouldn’t limit my company into just solely doing roofs either. Theirs more money in being diverse vs one thing. But than again if I were to do all of that I would just become the home building contractor. Pay other companies to do all the mess. And let them operate things the way they choose. And only have to write out a check an call it a day.
I carried thousands of squares of shingles on to roofs i old fashion way and loved every minute of it 2 bundles at a time up a latter of a 4 story house
My brother used to carry two at a time up ladders to the 2nd floor. He's got the bad back and blown out knees and hips to prove it. That is an excellent solution to a daunting problem.
I've carried thousands of bundles up the hard way over the years so I can tell ya, if you can carry two at a time up the ladder, you must be a beast of a man😜!!!
As I age, doing things like this will help me maintain the stamina that I need to finish a job. Stamina I had 5, 10, 15, 20...I'm stopping now...years ago.
It's funny, some keyboard warriors say it's easier to carry them up one at a time, some say it takes too long to make and the time spent is too much compared to manually carrying them. Okay. Maybe because they're lazy every step of the way, this thing will take no more than 3 minutes to make and compared to carrying 80 lb. bags up a ladder one at a time it's a no-brainer. For fucks sake it's a couple of 2x6s nailed together with a pulley, it's not fucking rocket science 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao everyone would be fired if they got caught wasting their time to build it. Singles would of been up there by the time you picked up the first 2x4.
Back when I was roofing we carried those up ladders. We would have challenges of who could carry the most shingles. Glad to see roofers got smarter lol lower back pains a pain in the ass.
I was a roofer for many years we always had to carry up the shower angles. I wish I would have thought about that rig. We never had the latter after. Great idea guys.
You could use a heavy duty drill with a 3’ pole spindle in the chuck and use drill power to get those up too. Winch style. Just have quite a few batteries or a 120v adapter. Same concept you have, but no man power needed. Using 120v, you could put a Christmas tree light remote at the plug in and send it up and down with two clicks.
I love the ingenuity here. That's a very nice contraption that saves the lower back from alot of pain and stress. Work smarter not harder. Those shingles are pretty damn heavy. I give all roofers props for enduring through the tough physical work that this job involves and being exposed directly to the heat of the sun all day. I've done it and it IS NOT easy.
At an age of about 70years old, my grandfather made something similar, in the 1980’s, but it was powered by an electric motor from a washing machine. This made him able to do the whole thing himself. I miss him.
Smart contraption. We use to carry each one up a ladder, sometimes on three story jobs. Great workout!💪🏼😆👍🏼 We did have an automated version on the three story, but it wasn't always working, so had to go old-school. But what young guy doesn't like to show off, now and then.😳💪🏼💥
In that case they should put the entire pallet full of shingles on the rails then tight a chain on the back of pickup truck and pull them all at once. Easy cake.
At the ripe old ingenious age of 17, I thought it was a great idea for strength building and balance to carry 2 packs on each shoulder without holding on to the ladder a few times a day. Now at almost 40 I realize I was working the wrong muscle and really miss a full night's sleep.
No doubt,, I said to myself, or you could be a man and walk em up the ladder with it on your shoulder like the good ole days lol, I'd rather this method though 😂
WOW.. HEAVY DUTY ON THE GO IN AN EASY PATH.. "LoOK" NO BACK INJURY! GREAT JOB GYZ ..WELL DONE.. THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL "WORK SAFETYNESS" ME LIKEY! WHEN YOU WORK AS A BUILDER "SAFETY COMES 1ST!!!👍👍👍👍
In the end it would probably take the same amount of time as doing it the hard way, including assembly of the doohickey. But I would totally prefer to do it this way and save your back
Very nice 2 man lift. Impressive to say the least. I used to be a roofer myself, but the while ugly as all get out, the similar device I conceived, was motorized and conciderably more vertical. But I also built 120VAC outlets into the rear of my work van, so I always had power no matter where I was working at day in and day out. But still, this looks to be very handy for you and your helper. 👍
Work construction in the desert for 40 years. Never met a roofer who wasn't a drunk. They have to have something to kill the pain of such backbreaking labor! Choose another trade youngsters.
We just use a big fork lift that raises 20 feet in air and we will pull it off from there. We used to do it where we would carry two up at a time, but now we have the luxury of having a creative mind like this lad and having technology do most of the work. This is the first I’ve seen this. If we weren’t using a fork lift we would be using something like this but probably more of a pully system then a upward slide. If you could make a retractable one that’s easier to move around and then sell it on the market, I bet you would make a pretty penny off it. Pretty cool idea mate.
@@ryanjones7681 how? Heavy machinery trashes the area it drives on, needs an external fuel source, is loud, dangerous, and requires qualified operators. This takes 2 dudes, a.few 2x4s, is basically silent, does no damage to the surrounding area, saves your back, takes only mabey 20 mins to setup, is almost as fast, and you can reuse the lumber somewhere else when your done..... This is brilliant, replace this method with machinery only makes sense on high roofs or on commercial buildings where it's far to high up for this and the volumes of shingle are way higher.
@@ryanjones7681 There are many variables that this invention would be better for. If you don't have good enough access road to the roof job, small city streets that the machine will block / be a nightmare to get in and setup, wet yard will get rekt by the heavy machine,
Laughs in Mexican, seeing that they didn't bother to install underlayment first before loading bundles and that it took longer to build this contraption than it would've taken to load materials via the ladder
@@LickMyMusketBallsYankee yeap lol but more people then we care to admit in are industry are high-school drop outs, drug addicts and scum bags just looking for a doller so if you're young and in good shape you're gunna be put through the ringer or you'll be called a bitch and be put down lol
@@TestElepine I wouldn't diss someone for being a dropout like I would the other things. Many people in Silicon Valley didn't fully graduate from jack but are rich enough to run successful companies by sitting on their ass. That kid could be earning an extra dime while he builds his multi million dollar empire. A druggy scummy bum? Best make them do the coffee runs and the less critical but harder work, they've earned it!
Another smart idea sure beats hanging them up on your shoulder climbing a ladder but it's always nice to have the fork truck that's usually on the back of the truck delivering your tiles put them right on the roof
Keeps your back in the game a little longer, try carrying a pallet of shingles up to a roof see how your back feels at the end of the day!! If you make it a whole day
Genius 🏆 Brilliant 🥇 I commend you sir 💪🏼 If every construction worker used this incredible lift, it would save a lot of ppl from suffering horrible back problems 💥😖
That's not how back problems work... They are usually due to improper form coupled with bad posture during sitting and sleeping. Lifting heavy weight makes your back stronger.
@@dominick253 it's just a matter of time. Small details like boot wear, ground surface, weather, temperature... Any number of factors can cause a small slip that results in a life long injury. Work smarter not harder, 100% of the time
@@royaldecreeforthechurchofm8409 yeah I was tryna see if tiles where heavier or not because 2 packets of tiles would be stupid to carry up a ladder like these blokes say they carry 2 packets of shingles up

That is amazing! I can't tell you how bad it was when I used to have to carry 50-100 50 lb bundles on my shoulders up ladders 3 stories high without any support. It was truly traumatic! It was my job from 16-20 years old. I was in best shape of my life though and tan as hell but whew that heat and exhaustion from so much work was truly something else. Hardest job ive ever done and I give so much credit to roofers. Tearoffs are absolutely just as bad if not worse than carrying those bundles up ladders. The cleanup is terrible too, omg I dont miss that. I remember doing a 4 layer tearoff as my first job. They put a roof over old roof 4 times!! Very old home with crazy structure and peaks. I remember the pitch of the roof being so steep they were practically completely vertical. Took like 3 days just to tear off and cleanup took another 2 days between 4 of us. It was rough man. But I was making good money at that age. $750 per week 18 years ago was decent money for a young kid. I was the bitch though. I did all the bundle carrying, laid tar paper and ice and water than had to pass the shingles every damn job. As hard as it was and truly frightening now that I look back on it, it was very rewarding work in the sense that you really felt like you earned every oz of pleasure and relaxation outside of work. Also I never felt so good physically in my life. I was so ripped but now im sort of a fatso. Haha Anyways I wish we thought of this back than about 20 years ago. This is truly genius and much safer!
Kudos to your hard hard as a youth. I wish more of our youth experienced that. It would be good for their character and an appreciation of earning your dollar while contributing to society.
@@DonaldDump2024 Absolutely agree. Every institution has failed our children along with many parents. The left wing indoctrination in our schools, our politics and on our tvs is destroying our youth and even adults. It's just gotten way too out of hand and I cant beleive it was rewarded in the elections which I dont think was legit but thats besides the point. Teaching our children to hate their own country, hate their own white skin, expect handouts and pampering and to beleive they are oppressed victims. Im so sick of it and I want major change and I loved Trump but the whole govt was not supportive of the people first pro America agenda. We need a whole new senate congress and upper brass. Fresh new blood not these career politicians so deep in corruption they would do anything to protect their skeletons.
Best part is when your 3 stories high at hearts above 90 degrees or more depending on where you live. Plus being so high up and the shingles that's there beaming more light to you. You at at least 100 degrees up there. So when you go down the ladder it's a 10 degree difference. It feels like an ac room lmao.
Can totally relate. I got into tiling and got ripped af but lost it all, it was hard work and was truly satisfying to see a job well done and earning your weekend. I am still sad I lost that job

Setting it up with kind of look like a pain in the ass. But yeah it's probably better when I work in construction we would tell three to four of these on our backs and claim them up the ladder
