I've always thought it was kinda a wuss way out to beat up on a guy while in the ring, as the other guy probably won't retaliate for fear of being fired, looking bad, being unprofessional etc. Someone like Rick rude did it the manly way, was a pro in the ring and fought in the locker room.
There were 2 kinds of guys who could have good matches with anybody. There were guys like Ric Flair and Arn Anderson who would carry you, and there were guys like the Steiners and Vader who would MAKE YOU WORK as hard as they worked. You were going up for the suplex 1 way or another, even if you didn’t want to.
In the 90s my cousin worked as a bank teller and the Steiners used to come in all the time. Rick was really rude to her a few times to the point she cried at least once. As I got older I asked her what Scott was like and oddly enough she said he was normal and more patient.
My dad meet him in a gym in Marietta Georgia back in the mid to late 80's, he was working out with his girl friend, dad said she was pretty hot looking, both were really nice.
There was one tag match with the steiners against Ronnie Garvin & someone and Garvin shoved Rick from behind very aggressively and then just stared at him. I remember Rick backing down real fast as he knew not to mess with RG.... laughter. There's always someone tougher right around the corner.
Loved the Steiners. IMO the greatest tag team in pro-wrestling. They used to legit beat the crap out of other tag teams but they were noticeably soft in their matches against Faces of Fear (Haku & Barbarian) and against Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed).
@@poopsyko it's a difference between being scared of someone and having respect for. Just like most ppl on the internet, most ppl are punks. Easy targets then there are some ppl you just know even if you win it might not be worth it
Lol , Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner was as good As They Got in Tag Teams. If the looked soft it was because that was what they were told to do. I saw em beat Simmons and Reed like drums . As for Murdock, he was trying to seriously injure Scott Steiner. That's Bull shit . The Steiner's DOMINATED WCW TAG TEAM WRESTLING. . 👍
At the same time, I feel like Scott is a little more personable than I thought he would be. Brock Lesnar is probably the worst I've seen lol. Only interview I've seen him is with Stone Cold and there were times I thought Brock was gonna whoop Steve's ass lol
@@Tony-fq5bn brock has anxiety problems and interviews make him uncomfortable.... quite a few legends have regarded him as a friend and an ok guy to talk to
Muscle Doggs No, that was a bad joke! It never happened. The Steiners were so tough even the Road Warriors would probably have been unable to beat them in a shoot.
@@moonbeamskies3346 You got me too. I had to Google the mulkey brothers and I was just staring at the picture literally saying out loud "these guys???"
Go watch him give a receipt to Chris Champion via a ridiculous clothesline. Or go watch Saturn rough up a guy to the point that it's basically assault. Or go watch The Skyscrapers rough up Mike Blackwell badly. There are instances where it was caught. The things I don't believe are the stories of Haku taking out entire police forces or multiple military branches all at once with just his bare hands and a pencil eraser or something.
The Hannibal not gonna lie I just discovered this guy back in 2011 or 2012 something like that. I do remember it was December in 1 of those years. However I am slowly becoming a fan. His work as well as shoots. Great questions in the shoots going back 2 childhood & how these guy's got into this business. & he's a very respectful nice dude but he's Also a big bad ass s.o.b. 2.. keep it goin bro.
Most jobbers knew their role and performed accordingly, but for the marks and also the top guys to think or believe said jobbers if need be couldn't kick their ass in a real world confrontation sets a difficult precedent.
I've seen the matches Steiner is talking about. Trust me there is no way any of those guys would stand a chance against him or Scott in a real fight. The whole reason they were using amateur wrestling moves on them was because they weren't good enough to do the pro moves properly. Neither did they have any amateur techniques to defend the moves. Landel was very scared, he couldn't figure out if they were shooting on him or just toying with them but he apparently deserved it.
In Stan Hansen's book he talks about how his gimmick as a monster heel was to beat up guys in the ring and that many of those guys would destroy him in real life, he mentions the Malenkos.
There were some jobbers who knew their rol, but never learnt how to play it. In my opinion the biggest risk is when you dont know how to move, and you are unable to coordinate those moves with your "opponent": Then is when they have to get total control and double power : to create the show and to overpower any move of that their jobber was doing in any other direction.
Buddy Landel was the kind of guy you had to fuck with, he was his own worst enemy, to bad he couldn't have straighten out before Jim Crockett promotions had enough of his shit and fired him back in 85.
When you learn "a little something" in even high school wrestling you can kinda do so some stuff to the average person. So just imagine a high level AAU or NCAA type of dude with a build like a Steiner or a Steve Williams or a Brock Lesnar... it's a terrifying thing to think about. And then you have that other OTHER level of shooter with a catch background... who's maybe possessed of a bit of sadism for whatever reason. The kind that could tear out a pectoral muscle or blow a knee without thinking about it...just to do it. At least with some of the more "conventional" martial arts there's some kind of humanitarian philosophy that's taught alongside the skill set.
I'm actually a good bit taller than Rick (I stand 6'6) but I got to talk with him a good bit. Him and Scott were one of my 2 All time favourite tag teams. The other is the 4 horsemen
Dream 6 Man Tag Match: The Steiner Brothers(Rick & Scott) w/ Dr. Death Steve Williams vs. The British Bulldogs(Davey Boy Smith & The Dynamite Kid) w/ Mr. Magnificent Don Muraco. Which team wins???
Steiner's vs Dr Death and Bam Bam Gordy. Those were the only guys that could handle the bros. Did got his kung pulled out, the Nasty boys were bloodied, the midnights we're destroyed. SST, Doom, Free birds crushed.. Rick and Scott ran through everyone until Doc and Gordy. And then Doc and Gordy lose to a 19 yr old Shane Douglas and little Ricky Steamboat!?! WTF.
Both Steiners don't seem to realize that this whole thing is entertainment and not about hurting each other. I guess that's why neither one of them ever drew any real money. I'm sure there were plenty of times other wrestlers could have hurt them in the ring and didn't -- you know because it's a work...
How did they not realize it was entertainment both guys were characters and scott steiner went to be a great heel in WCW. No one ever said wrestling wouldn't hurt and a lot of guys were rough and most men took it!
OK, I need glasses. I'm looking to the right and there's a picture of Kurt Angle and I'm looking at Rick Steiner thinking they look a lot alike. Are my eyes really that fucked or does anyone think they've grown to look alike? In any way?
No they weren’t. They were old school, wrestling was more physical back then. Jobber and enhancement talent were supposed to fight back, that’s the art of wrestling it’s supposed to look like a fight. So when guys would no sell they would teach them.
Scott Steiner is a bully and a coward. He badmouthed Flair simply because he's not in Flairs class as a wrestler. I never heard of Steiner bullying Harley Race or Meng. They r plently of guys that like to fight if that's what u wanna do, but I never heard of Steiner picking on someone who fights back because he would have got his ass whipped. Them muscles dont mean shit in a fight
I still have the stars beating the crap of the jobbers with my NWA tabletop wrestling game. I have em booked every weekend when I have the matches ala TBS days. And then its back on tour on Monday night for the house shows. Then on Friday's its the NWA Power Hour, & then I have the 2 hours on Saturday nights & then the NWA Main Event on Sunday's. It don't get anymore old school than this. lol And I have my big Thanksgiving PPV coming up on Thanksgiving night with my NEW creation as you'll be LOCKED IN THE ROCK. Even have up a forum where we all post at. I've been at it for 32 years & I'm just getting started!!! lol
If you use a computer to game you might want to try EWR 4.2 (Google search, its free) or Total Extreme Wrestling (2005 is free, the other versions cost money, they mostly do get better as they go). You can create or download a "mod" that will replicate the "TBS days" (along with the competition so you can poach em).
Gotta love how his reasoning for him and his brother beating the shit out of the enhancement guys is that "they were just in it for a paycheck". Those guys probably made absolute peanuts to go out there and get their heads kicked in, and you're calling into question their profession integrity. I'm sorry, but get fucked lol. When the show closes up, those guys have to go back to their day job. They're not making big contract money, and most of them aren't ever going to he given any opportunities to do anything else besides job for bigger names. The fact is, guys like the Steiners and The Road Warriors did what they did, because they knew they could get away with it. They could go out there and tear the heads off the local guys and no one would say shit. So they did it and they didn't care.
Just read the story about him shooting on that one jobber who trained at an MMA gym and getting his ass kicked. It's ad man. The old roided Rick Steiner of the 90's would stretch anyone. Hell I train at the most popular gym in East TN and have a huge MMA bias but I still wish Steiner would have came out on top :/
That was a highly talented independent wrestler named Vordell Walker (who is one of the coolest people you could ever know, and has legit fighting credentials) and he embarrassed Steiner when he tried to shoot on him. 😂
