Rick Wakeman tells David Bryce (moderator of The Keyboard Corner) more about the keyboard rig used on the 2016 Anderson/Rabin/Wakeman tour. Rick and his tech also share more details on how the instruments and sound modules are interconnected.
And there are additional Moog-related anecdotes, among many other gems.
Filmed on November 22, 2016 at the Orpheum Theater, Los Angeles, California.

I wish could have seen Rick in concert, was fasinated by the sounds he could make, and actually had a basic Moog.

Lovely! Thanks for sharing, Rick is charming. I know a lot about the gear he discusses. My one big surprise- no weighted 88 key piano? Keith Emerson used to have like a 9 foot grand. Rick- not even a digital 88? Wow..

Dave you are sure high strung! hahaha! But I guess I'd be giddy if I was there, so I'm not judging! Thanks for this.

Russell Szabados you're right! All the New York cats I know are wound up tight. And they play that way too! On top of the beat. Not a criticism, just an observation!

That's an astute observation. I'm not a good candidate for comparison because I've never been a groove player nor have I played much music with groove, but I've known a few guys who had to grapple with the issue to keep gigging. Even Tony Levin, IMHO the most identifiable pocket bassist in rock came out of Eastman playing right on top of the beat like all classical players. In his book he talks about moving from upstate to Manhattan and learning to lay back with the help of his close friend/classmate Steve Gadd. I wish I could've spied on those jam sessions! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a robot, but I'm at my best playing rock & prog, or classical, than Motown or Sly & the Family Stone. Now that I've wasted two minutes of yr life with a digression of a digression, I think you're spot on, the lifestyle and general feel of New York City doesn't lend itself to that feel. Shit, I was overjoyed the night I discovered the secret to playing with as much groove as your likely to ever get out of me...the trick: relax and just feel it baby. I'm off to get more coffee!

I am old school ,I mainly play guitar ,with some keyboards ,and I can,t stand in ears !!!!! Like Rick I started with a marshall stack ,singer had a couple of columns ,!!! It made you play to the drums ,which could not turn up . There is something inspiring about hearing and feeling the other instruments ??? thats the trouble with getting old !!!!
