I couldn't begin to count how many times I've listened to him. 6 wives of Henry the 8th. Journy to the center of the earth were my go to albums as a teen in the 70's
He's also responsible for the "Life On Mars" piano part by David Bowie. Best album: "The Six Wives of Henry VIII", one of the first I bought. He's a monster.
It’s not a tribute concert but Anderson (today’s his 80th birthday) Bruford Wakeman Howe playing An Evening Of Yes Music Plus. It’s filmed @ Shoreline Amphitheater in Mt. View, California on September 9, 1989. I know because I was there and the whole concert was broadcast live on PPV for $25. I set my vcr to record it 240 miles away and I still have that vhs tape. It’s also on DVD. It’s 4/5 of Yes missing is Chris Squire who was asked to join but declined so that night Jeff Berlin played bass.
It's a band, not Yes, playing Yes music. Isn't that a tribute band?. The band was formed...NOT CALLED YES!!!! and because Anderson was sick to death of Rabin and Squire.
Nope. Chris Squire was not asked to join. Reason: he had been LATE to everything for 20 years and Jon and Steve were not gonna wait around for him this tour. This was promoting the ABWH album(Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe) in '89. And first time Rick was back with Jon and Steve since Tormato a decade earlier.
Cripes, im ashamed to say i didnt know about Rick. I knew Hitlon Valentine, thats about as close as i got to someone famous. I was back stage crew for a bit, but we got fired if we talked to the artists. Great keyboard talent
@@sootikinsRick is not actually playing bass pedals like the Moog Taurus. I think that he stacked the strings patch (on a fifth keyboard?) on top of the piano patch. He’s probably using a Roland EV-5 pedal to attenuate the volume of the strings patch from silent to loud.
i think this is a yes tribute concert done in the 80's. Don't think Rick was with the band then....He looks like Kiefer Sutherland in The Lost Boys on this to me, lol I think it shows Rick light years ahead, with maybe Keith Emerson, of all the other also rans, the likes of Jon Lord and george Duke to name a couple. Saw him a few years ago doing a 1 man show, he just chatted for ages between each song about some of the funny events as a musician. 75% of the show was him talking, he's a very funny man as well as an incredible musician. Loved your reactions...sort of disbelief at times, lol
Going to see his Xmas show here in the UK in a couple of weeks. I've lost count of how many of his solo tours I've seen. Usually in churches. His comedy routines are as good as his virtuoso playing.
If that's Rick Wakeman, it was done 50 years ago and the video quality is way too good for it to be that old in the closeup at the end when he turned, it just doesn't look like Rick, I saw Yes in the round back in the day when he would have been about this age he didn't look like that then and he definitely doesn't look like that now, he's well into his 70s and white haired w a good size beard, even when he was young he usually had some facial hair, not Rick IMHO, I'm pretty sure, he's a really good keyboard player still, just not Rick Wakeman
