I think the thing that Rick Wilson needs to First understand that he was one of the progenitors of the politics that got us exactly where we are today with Trump
and is also why he's so down on Bernie Sanders, calling him a commie? He's still a "Repukin" just selling books, and if Trump offered a nice cushy job he'd be there with bells on and on his knees like the rest of them!
Rick, the reason it abolishes private insurance is because it replaces it with health coverage that is MUCH cheaper, but also actually covers everything you need. Most people think private insurance is shit because for 99% of people it is.
His unveiling of Republicans devious tactics...that mindset has brought us to where we are now. This disrespect and crucifying of character started back in the 70's, which he was a part of doesn't end good for America. This genie can't be put back in the bottle.
One big thing that happened in the 2016 campaign was that DJT got nonstop coverage from the TV networks because he is a TV guy. As against his claims of being "self- funded". He got free advertising.
Nicole Wallace yes… Steve Schmidt who brought us Sarah Palin and Rick Wilson who produced an ad slamming max cleland patriotism are just highly paid propagandists the scourge of our Democracy.
...ignorance of a voter is the best tool used by politicians...they remind us every 4 years how credulous and ignorant most of us are...it works and always will...find the fertile ground and sow the seeds of doubt...why did owners of the country systematically destroyed the public education? ...dumber the nation, easier to govern...
I happen to be one of these moderates Rick Wilson is talking about and I can tell you there would be no way I could be swayed into voting Trump. This moderate is not vulnerable to Trumpian mechanics.
The serious issue I have with Wilson and his Ilk is that he is a professional political strategist first and someone interested in democracy second. If young people do not vote, then reintroduce civics lessons in schools. If pro-life democratic voters are being lost to republicans then amend policy instead of making email lists and knocking on doors. The fundamental problem with american politics is not that government is too big or too small; it is that it has been bought!!!
Go look at the registered voters over the last 100 years. What you will find is that the number of independents are growing steadily over time it is the fastest-growing voter base in the country. So why is that? It is because people are sick of both parties and now have reached a point where they are happy to see both parties in shambles and hope they fall apart. Soon I hope they both disappear into the trash bin of history. Neither party is good for America and the sooner they fall the better it will be for all of us.
Be careful what you wish for. We may end up with a brutal, fascist party on the right led by Trump's successors and an irresponsible far left party that in time could also resort to violence, and a middle just trying to stay out of their way. Our rules are both geared to a two party system and very baked in, third parties have not arisen to occupy the middle for very solid reasons. The normal way to win is for one party or the other to win the middle. Trump actually did that by working on the middle and rights' fears, resentments and hatreds. It may be very hard to repeat that performance, but Trump can win using the same path to victory again. Short of Bernie being the nominee, and maybe not even then, he cannot win the popular vote if it is kept honest (big if). But he can win again in the electoral college. What is needed, beyond not nominating Sanders and making Trump a resident of prison rather than 1600, are structural reforms that force both parties toward the middle, where they used to be to the point that the ideologically overlapped. That actually existed between the end of World War Two and about 1980. Nixon and Reagan did a lot to kill it off by exploiting white resentment against the civil rights agenda. Getting rid of gerrymandering or reverse-engineering gerrymandering (with the goal of producing only the MOST competitive districts, not the least) would be a big step in the right direction.
@Sheryl kimball You are part of the problem. This is how we end up voting for the lesser of two evils. If voters would stop looking at the D's and R's, maybe we could get somewhere.
@@markfrommaryland3825 and voter surpression, taking people off the voting rolls and the gerrymandering has got to be the worst. Maybe wiping out both parties is not a bad idea, make them start out from the beginning the GOP maybe wiped out in November there might be a good start, the GOP going back to the"grand old party"
I am glad you noticed that. Did you also notice how independents NEVER get voted in? Trump IS the independent vote via R party. Is it any wonder everyone is against him? I suggest you do some research on what Trump has been doing for the people that is never published on MSM. They are all corporate-controlled. What Trump is doing IS FOR THE PEOPLE. He said it from day 1 that he will give back government TO THE PEOPLE.
Unfortunately, the Dems continually attack one another vice focusing on kitchen table issues and/or defeating trump. Obama warned them about the "circular firing squad".
Most of them simply are not ready for this amount of truth and facts. Just take Wilson's "young voters simply don't vote". I've been saying the exact same thing to a lot of Democrats (old, middleaged and young). All of them just got mad at me and simply didn't want to acknowledge the facts because they'd collide with their believes. In a lot of way a lot of the democratic voters aren't even THAT different to the MAGAtards
I am part of the Democrat party and all I hear from our leadership is "We can't, we can't, we can't " with no clue of what we can do. We also have amateur politicians who need training and practice on how to respond to constituents and reporters.
@SwiftJustice2020 Oh wait. Are you a Russian, Chinese, Iranian, Assad, Kim Jong Un or a Republican Bot? Just sayin'; it's NOT impossible. If not a Bot... Well that's just unlikely.
It's early June and it feels like Rick Wilson has been right about almost everything so far., and the Lincoln Project is consistently and effectively putting his ideas into practice. It's wonderful to behold.
Rick Wilson, although I appreciate you, I’m grateful for you speaking up and I always appreciate what you do... you are partially responsible for the false reality the Fox crowd lives in today. You laid the groundwork that helped people actually believe Pizzagate. I’m glad you’re atoning for some of it.
I can't actually believe he is atoning -- he still uses unfair and incorrect GOP talking points in his description of Bernie Sanders. Bernie isn't 87 or a Communist, but Rick says this as if the GOP can make the voting public believe these lies. Super cynical guy has a lot to atone for, and apparently wants to crush the hope we have to correct his GOP wrong-doings by electing a progressive candidate and Congress... brandnewcongress.org
ferickson the GOP voters already think Bernie is a crazy old socialist. Progressives are only one section of the base, the dem base is a broad coalition. The GOP only need to make old white people and middle aged white men believe stuff. They are a homogenous base. The democratic nominee needs moderates, progressives, independents and non voters.
corryjookit Because those who care about facts can easily find out Bernie is 78 and a democratic socialist. Those who don’t care about facts won’t care about corrections coming from me.

Hope ALL whom I love get to see this and HEAR this 👨👩👧👧
Abolishing the electoral college requires a Constitutional Amendment. Do you even know what that entails? 2/3 of the state legislators MUST approve. Why would all those low population states give up their one source of power?
Sandra Gruhle = you think you are wiser ,more intelligent than the founders of your nation ,you want to abolish the electoral college ?you grow up in security ,liberty ,you are the spoilt descendants of the Rich.So that China can send her loyal citizens to become Americans and be elected senators and rule over you. This man speaks too much.
Abolish the electoral college??? And have California and New York control the country?? Isn't it clowns of your ilk who are always talking about leveling the playing field? TRUMP 2020!
Wilson has been a Republican consultant for a long time. I like the guy and he makes a lot of sense... but as a Republican strategist, how is he not partly responsible for the mess we're in now?
@@Finians_Mancave These guys are hired to do a specific job. If he understands how the Republicans operate then that is an advantage. He has been successful and that is what matters, not who he used to work for. These guys make big, big money and are worth it.

F him he helped get us here! It's all just a game to him...not his family fighting these wars. He's part of the problem. Republicans are not the majority. Get out and vote already.
I’ve suggested this to Dem leadership several times. Like him or no, he understands how to win. We don’t have to go down to their level but we need to up our game considerably.
Rick Wilson has amazing insight, both historically and politically, into our current mess. This was an intelligent conversation and I really enjoyed it.
@Len Smittey hysterical. How many investigations into Clintons and Obama? And... how many indictments? 🤔 How many investigations into Trump and allies? How many indictments? How much actual traitorous behavior? 🤔 Stop getting your information from conspiracy theories. 🤦♀️
You call Sweden a socialist country. This is what Bernie wants in a mild version and we are NOT socialists. We are mainly capitalist country with a slize of socialist policies to easy the sharp edges of capitalism. So this means take the best of two systems and the most from the capitalist one.

No one cheated but the Democrats. They always do. They just didn't cheat enough to override Trump's votes. That's why they were shocked. They demanded recounts and they were all found to be valid. Where were you?

Very good, TE, you've tripped over a truth; we have lived under an autocracy for the past 60 years. Keynesian economics have destroyed the American Dream. We should have been operating under the Austrian School of Economics rather and we'd not be in $T's of debt. Don't forget, Obummer took us into more debt than all prior presidents combined. "W" left a terrible debt legacy, too.
I will risk my life to vote Trump* out. I will stand in line for hours to vote out all the Republicans who have enabled him in a snowy, sleety winter storm. He is turning our democracy into an autocracy right in front of our eyes.
He's correct. Get a better slogan than Malarky, however he's completely wrong about policy. They need to play over and over and over again how he would like to take away Social Security and Medicare. Trump will lose in a heartbeat.
But that’s about a Trump failure and lie not about democratic policies. That’s a winning strategy. Republicans do awful shit because they win elections by being a pigeon playing chess, then once they’re in they pass stupid policies that hurt the people that voted for them. Policies are only important in the primaries, in the general they should just be hammering Trump and showing they are reasonable and not criminal.

This is the test America(ns) must encounter and overcome. Do we want to continue down the slippery slope into a dictatorship and big money/corporate governance, or do we fully realize the destructive forces of trump and the GOP, and take action and ensure he and his party are voted out? Instead of "draining the swamp" we have become more immersed in it. The destruction of our Democratic Republic is becoming more clear/damaging every day trump remains in office.
We only just managed to get rid of "Hair Furher Trump" because of his Cheating, Lyin and the Rethuglicans ran the "Socialist" play book that they had intended to run against Bernie against Biden and now 9/12/21, we have Joe Manchin blocking Biden's Agenda on Voting Rights and the Infrastructure Bill and yet he's been warned that we, moderate Liberals, are going to be running someone against him, his favourable/unfavourable numbers are tanking and he's got to the Midterms to change his ways, Kristen Sinama is tanking because she won't be an actual Democrat maybe she thinks she's a Rethuglican but she's put a Wrench in the Works and seems to be Trolling the Arizona Democrats, although Captain Mark Kelly who was Elected to John McCain's seat is really popular with the people of the State, but we're not quite out of the woods yet we have to get some movement with Biden's Agenda otherwise we'll be in trouble with the same problem as Obama, everything blocked by the Rethuglicans and Constant attempts at Impeachment as most people have forgotten that the Rethuglicans tried to Impeach Obama multiple times for 13 different reasons (including the Tan Suit) and we have the Insurrection Caucus trying to Impeach Biden before they are able and they want to Impeach VP Harris which leaves President Nancy Pelosi and I don't think they've thought of that, well it is Margarine QAnon Greene and Lauren "Guns" Boebert that's Cheer Leading the Clown Car of Stupidity.....

oh yea such a dignified idiot... you are not removing Trump and he will be RE-ELECTED. What is bad is all these hucksters are losing their illicit sources of income.
I just keep thinking what the election and continued support of Trump says about millions of Americans. Millions believe "putting kids in gages" is just fine and as Wilson said "it's evil". In the Trump era, I have feelings like I had at the height of my PTSD ie I am living in a country of evil people and I'm not safe. Americans will gleefully support the reduction of school lunches, leave elderly people without health care, support torture of others and the rest of the incredibly long list of evil actions. While we point at Trump, the real issue is us.
what a scary guy Rick Wilson is...he is extremely smart, intelligent and fast thinking...luckily he is honest in pointing out the tactics of Trump and the consequenses if Trump gets 4 more years.
He's pretty arrogant, but I agree. Arrogant like Bill Clinton, arrogant like Tom Brady, arrogant like Mozart. If you have the goods, you're still arrogant, but only the stupid deny the talent. I just read the new book, recommend it, and think he is about 99 percent on target. He does overstate the unimportance of the youth vote, I think he means that they are the least cost effective set of voters to pursue, you get the least bang for the buck. Usually true, maybe less so than usual. I taught HS government for three decades, and I have never seen opinion run so strongly against any politician, ever. Maybe it is different in parts of the South and Midwest, but in Northern Virginia, 80 percent of seniors simply despise Donald Trump, and see him as a dinosaur standing in the way of reality seven ways from Sunday. I think they are much more motivated to vote than in 2016. They may make a difference in key states. It is an error to ignore them. Other than that, pretty dead on.
Does it disturb you that so many people who are Democrats on this thread are so thoroughly in denial about what it is going to take to win in 2020, and what has to be minimized or avoided to do so? I can deal with the Republicans who can't forgive his apostasy about Trump because they can't deal with the fact that a turncoat hardass who can see Trump's vulnerabilities clearly is on the other team, sort of, especially because they can't admit that if Trump is a Death Star, he's one with a thousand vulnerabilities, not just one. His path to victory is just as narrow as it was in 2016, right? (Unless Democrats choose Bernie and I would sadly add, maybe also Elizabeth Warren, whom I admire). What bothers me is how unreal the Democrats are about the nature of politics, as if they can reinvent it in this election, on the fly. As Anurin Bevan said, politics is a blood sport. In autocracies, literally so. Most of the commenters have not come to terms with what it will take to dethrone would-be King Donald the Grifter. You'd think that the way that the impeachment unfolded in both the House and the Senate would be a wake up call. What do you think?

The definition for both parties has drastically changed so much over my short life. Can they even really be considered a shadow of what they ised to be and how much has our media been to blame for this?
Our media give us what we want via ratings. It is our fault as we as a country have set back and let this happen. Hopefully, enough of us are now paying attention to make sure the 2020 elections removed Trump and a lot of his Republican enablers.

I may go all the way to the state convention again, and I will remember that Presidents choose administration staff like their followers, which tells me that Sanders' could never establish common ground with other Dems, let alone Republicans. Dems ALL lose when we form a circular firing squad.
@irish inNY I agree when it comes to Nancy, who has been instrumental in corrupting Washington by building the donor system, but Adam Schiff is just formidable compared to most congressmen and senators. That's just the type for a future president, he's just necessary.
I agree with you on so much. Why is it when I bring up your name Mr. Wilson, do people call you a criminal, investigating a criminal? What crime are you being accused of, or did you commit?
I'm so weary of delayed justice. How can the GOP be as cynical as they are today? Democrats always listen and try to compromise. Not so with the GOP. Our system is broken. I wish we could wipe away political parties. I am so weary of the competition and duality. It is way past time to end the electoral college. So sick of single issue voting too.
I think what you're sick of is republicans. That's who had turned our system into a cynical, zero sum game they "win" by unethical means, for whom winning and power are the only goals. Democrats, thank God, are still a real political party, with an ethos, with policies, who take government seriously, who "always listen and try to compromise". Fortunately, we _can_ sweep away the political party causing the problem. We can drown the republican party, its members and its awful philosophy, in a blue wave in November. It will take a few more election cycles to scour them out of our system entirely but it can be done. Virginia is now 100 percent repub free. Once we do that, even before it's done, we can get back to making life better for everybody. Politics is not a game, it's how we run our public lives.
That is your warped perspective of reality. Democrats are not the "Doves" as they used to be seen as. If you actually knew and understood what is going on then you would see that the Republicans are the party of compromise, because they are almost without principles except for a few key social issues. The Democrat Party is now a party of racial identity. In reality, their policymaking is barely different from the Republicans. The difference is what they do to "win" their bases. Republicans know that their party is corrupt too, it's just that they hope Trump will at least help with some of it. There is almost nothing that Democrats are offering that will be good for the USA as a whole. The Democrats need to completely reform themselves because as it stands now, them winning the Presidency will be one of the most dangerous things that can happen this decade.
Electoral college IS YOUR DEFENSE against cheating. That is why Dems hate it so much along with Voter ID, and illegal mail-in-voting in place of legal absentee ballots.
Here's my problem with combining public and private health care. The private insurance companies will either not accept sick and old people, or else they will raise the price of coverage for them. These people will then be driven to the public health care. The public health care will then have problems sustaining itself because it gets all the sick people. The private insurance companies will then say, "See? Publicly funded health care doesn't work. Government doesn't know how to do it." I don't hear candidates like Sanders and Warren point this out and I don't know why. But there must be some reason. Also, if there are both public and private payers, are candidates saying people would get a tax break if they choose a private insurance company? Or do they still have to pay the same taxes? As far as I know, people who choose to send their kid to a private school generally pay the same taxes.
