Distortion emphasises the natural harmonics and overtones already present in the ring of the lower strings, but it does give the distorted sound and extra thickness.

@@DylanPank71 I don't mean to say it's bad, and I didn't mean to be rude in anyway, btw.. I was just trying to point that - to my ears - with effects you tend to lose the octave effect, that - again, to my ears - is what is really cool about 12 string guitars (I don't care as much for the chorus effect in the b and e string). When listening to the likes of the Allah-Las, I always think "If only they put a little less reverb on the 12 string".. or listening to Lush, in which you can't really hear Miki's 12 string, as Emma's telecaster (and it's huge chorus effect pedal) is too much in your face. I like both bands, but they are far away from listening to the likes of McGuinn or Tom Petty.. Sorry for the long comment, btw
