Ricks has a clear great thumping sound other words the pickups on the Rickenbacker is just like Bose speakers and Bose speakers are the very best yeah there are other speakers to sound good however none of those speakers sound like a Bose
For me the sound of the Rick bass is the best! It sounds organic and natural not machine like the Fenders. When I hear Paul McCartney and Maurice Gibb's bass I am like in another place. Thanks for the love, man.

By far the best Rickenbacker demo I've seen. Anyone that claims Ricks aren't an ideal funk bass; the Rick will fill any genre, just depends on who's hands it's in. Proof once and for all a Rickenbacker is just as worthy a funk machine as is a Jazz bass.
Agreed. I’ve owned a few Ric’s and I have yet to find a situation they can’t handle. The newer ones are especially versatile with the vintage tone selector pot. The naysayers obviously haven’t spent much time with them. In stereo you get the “one trick pony” Geddy, Squire, Lemmy thing that the haters talk about. In mono you can EQ it to get just about any sound besides the Jaco thing. Great slap, great finger style, even a great Motown sound with the mute engaged. Absolutely love the things.

This video just cured me from my depression. Apparently great tone and good funk cancels out bad emotional funk. It also helps that this man is like the embodiment of pure joy. He's like a Mister Roger's that's full of positive vibes and can thump out the sweetest sounds. Thank you Mister Long ❤✌🎵🎶

So glad I found this...gives me inspiration for playing my Fireglo Rick more often during the impending winter lockdown here in Ohio. Just upgraded to Seymour Duncan pickups, which sound fantastic, although watching you makes reminds me that as usual, it's the player, not the gear. LOL Thanks for posting!
Fun Fact: The Harmonics at the 5th fret don't work when using only the neck pickup... That pickup is sitting on a harmonic node... Go ahead, check it out for yourself!! ...and, you have great taste in basses! I love your spirit! :)
this is the pure joy that a Rickenbacker gives , if you have a friend whos a bassist and you wanna buy them something real special get them a Rickenbacker they'll be the happiest bass player in the world
Anyone who has tried to get that Chris Squire/Geddy Lee/John Entwistle growl-y tone on their Rick -- especially at volume -- eventually stumbles upon its ability to produce a powerful, popping response. Just turn the thing up and whack it with your thumb and away you go.
Yeshead Played one today and can confirm. Tried out some old Sly Stone and it was like Jack Bruce and Larry Graham had a dirty nasty baby and put some funk on it. Greatest basses in the world
your Rick sounds different from the others. And it sounds better! It's one of the best bass tones I've ever heard! what is the secret? Are the pickups original?
I love Rickenbackers. That growl is unmistakable! I own a 4003 and would love to have an old 4001 if I could afford one. They're a bit of a headache as far as setting up. My Fenders are easy and I can set them up myself. The RIC has to go to a pro for setup. So I tend to not make any mods or changes to the RIC.
Great video!! I have a 4003s and i dig it more than most any bass i got. Only other one i like so much is my Sadowsky jazz bass. I smell the groove burning! Awesome
Rickenbackers are the sweetest sounding basses, no contest. I use Rick-o-sound on mine in my rock band and there is nothing like standing on a stage with that awesome sound washing over and around you, your pant legs flapping in the wind in front of your amp.
Great review Johnny. I got my Rici back in December (new). Still trying to figure out my tone, this helps a lot. And you are so funny. I love my Rici so much too. I could be wearing sweatshorts and a tattered Orange t-shirt and when I hang my Rici on my shoulder I'm instantly wearing a tuxedo.

we all know how distracting a neck pickup would be if you slap a rick but this guys pulls it out with ease like it's not getting in the way of his hand
