She is someone that I thought would have gone further than she did. Joss Stone reminded me a lot of her and she didn’t go as far as I thought she would have also.
Thanks for reacting to this one. Rickie lee Jones is a great artist. You should check out her duet with Dr. John Makin’ Whoopee! it was a Grammy winner. Also, if you haven’t done right place at the wrong time but Dr. John check that one out. Have a good one.
I couldn't understand half of what she was saying, but it sounded great. Lol That music is funky smooth. She sounds like Angelica Pickles singing about Chuckie Finster from the Rugrats.
[Verse 1] How come he don't come and P.L.P. with me Down at the meter no more? And how come he turn off the TV And hang that sign on the door? Well, we call, and we call "How come?", we say Hey, what could make a boy behave this way, yeah? Well, he learned all of the lines now And every time He don't, uh, stutter when he talks And it's true, it's true He sure has acquired This kind of cool and inspired sort of jazz when he walks Where's his jacket and his old blue jeans? If, if this ain't healthy, it is some kinda clean [Chorus] But that means that Chuck E.'s in love, my, my Chuck E.'s in love, love, love, love Chuck E.'s in love, uh-huh Chuck E.'s in [Bridge] I don't believe what you're saying to me This is something that I've got to see Is he here? I look in the pool hall But is he here? I look in the drugstore But is he here? No, he don't come here no more See Rickie Lee Jones Live Get tickets as low as $40 You might also like Blind SZA Nobody Gets Me SZA Hard to Be the Bard Original Broadway Cast of Something Rotten [Verse 2] Well, I tell you what I saw him He was sittin' behind us Down at the Pantages And whatever it is That he's got up his sleeve Well, I hope it isn't contagious What's her name? Is that her there? Oh, Christ, I think he's even combed his hair And is that her? Well, then, what's her name? Oh, it's never gonna be the same That's not her I know what's wrong 'Cause Chuck E.'s in love with the little girl singing this song And don't you know [Chorus] Chuck E.'s in love, yeah, yeah Chuck E.'s in love, love, love, love Chuck E.'s in love, my, my Chuck E.'s in Chuck E.'s in love Chuck E.'s in love He's in love, love, love with me
The whole album is great. I do believe that you would also enjoy The last chance Texaco. I enjoy your reacts one of my favorites. Keep up the great work.
Love RLJ....my favorite lyricist ever... such a great artist... that debut album is sheer perfection....hope you can do more...you should do Company,.....tugs at the heartstrings
Very well stated, she was the epitome on hipness, very few, in the hipster scene who made it big, Besides her, Billie Dee Williams, there is Sheryl Crow, Jeff Porcaro, And of course the King of all hipsters, Mr. Miles Davis. It is not something you can be, you either is or you isn't!
Thank you so much for doing this song. If you have time, listen to her Pirates album. It is a beautiful jazz / pop infusion . I recommend reading the lyrics, too- poetry.
Cool song! It has a type of Beatnik Vibe to it! It's a little jazzy also! It seems like it came out around the Disco Era! Interesting, but groovy song! Sometimes I wish I had a time machine! See you Monday and take care!
Wonderful! Slide into her version of "Under The Boardwalk" when you have a chance. If you liked Ricki Lee Jones here, you'll more than likely like all of her stuff. I do.
Yes, "Miss Coolsville". Can never get enough of that vocal, always delivered in a soulful manner so unique to this artist. I have worn the grooves off her "Traffic From Paradise" record..... so many good cuts on that record such as Jolie Jolie and Running From Mercy are must listens. Loved your reaction.
You've got a pretty good head start on this song. My word, the year I graduated high school this song was popular, and I can tell you it was decidedly out of step with the rest of what was going on. Wonderfully out of step and still sounds great. Great upload.
This was one of my favorite albums when it first came out. I thought, finally a great singer in the vain of Joni Mitchell. I wish she could have kept going.
Fab song, great vibe (although the sound quality on this clip is horrible). Rickie Lee Jones is so great, gorgeous voice and delivery. As someone else said, The Last Chance Texaco is a *magnificent* song. There is an amazing live solo version of it, from quite a bit later, when she looks frankly out of her gourd, but still nails the song.
RLJ is Joni Mitchell without the nerdy hippy stuff going on. Yeah it is there, but she is just so much more sophisticated and cool than that. The musicians playing on this track are the best of the best - Steve Gadd on drums, Dr. John, even everyone's favorite late 70s backup singer Micheal McDonald! Rickie Lee is still going strong in Olympia WA producing and mentoring young artists.
