Ricky has been involved in enough funny projects that I can’t completely shit on him but his stand-up is like, insanely unfunny haha. That kind of limey smarminess that just makes your skin crawl.
I've liked all of them, they're very well thought out and written, as for being 'unfunny' Well some people like peanut butter, some don't, some people find this girl attractive, others won't. It's completely meaningless to describe someone as unfunny. Unless it's Brendan Shaub
He has that effect on a lot of brits too tbf, but his work on XFM will always be gold standard so I can’t hate on him, his stand up is weak 99% of the time mind
In Australia we have the most pissweak comedy festival, (likely sponsored by the tourism board), where everyone acts like we have a huge comedy scene and all the equivalent loser comics from canada and uk get on the bill with these few c grade international comics that tv told everyone they love You have never seen anything so gay take over a city so completely for a week
there are loads of good British stand-ups (there's tons of mid-level stand ups better than the stav) but because there are so few mainstream TV networks the most bland talk show ones make it to the big time, it's become so much worse since the alt comic heyday of the 80s and 90s he is right about the comparison between ozzy and british comedy
All I can imagine is 2 dudes sitting on a bed in front of one lapel mic ,eating Doritos and drinking monster energy, bitching about Ricky Gervais. Gets a bit gay when they both go for the bag.
hes the best at british stand up, british stand up being an unfunny lecture about how the comedian is better than the audience for some contrived metric that they have decided to use.
The problem with Australian comedy is Tall Poppy Syndrome. It’s an Australian cultural phenomenon where Australians fundamentally don’t like to see their fellow man succeed, and feel we need to cut them down. So your average stand up comedy, who if not smartest, has to be more knowledgeable than the average person, is forced into this weird state of perpetual dumbing down so they never get successful enough to be controversial
This is something I fundamentally notice about Americans, too, and we have a whole expression for it in Sweden as well, so I think it might just be kind of a universal thing. “Crabs in a bucket” applies. Also I’m gay and threatened by people who are gayer than I.
@@jrmungandrwe’re all just homogenizing. Nobodies allowed to be truly individualistic, only sanctioned allowed preset styles widely understood as cool. Low effort is rewarded
Yeah I mean we all thought the queen was just going to keep living forever. Can't believe someone had the thought of her dying and then the ninety-something-year-old bint did end up shuffling off within a year
I love Stav but I hate his stand up routine and he seems to want to be a guardian for it but his cringe crowd work isn't funny either. Nick is the only one who actually knows how to do stand up.
Stavs crowdwork is the same as any other crowdwork comic, if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. Stav sucks at standup when compared to others in his circle
Stewart Lee aside, british stand up in incredibly gay. We spent years promoting crap comics from holiday camps who did the same mother in law jokes for 3 decades and having the rest of the world think we all like gervias is our penance
as a fellow brit i feel a burning need to mention stewart every time yanks disparage british stand up, he's obviously the greatest to ever do it, they've never heard of him unfortunately so i've stopped doing it but this comment is solid proof that i'm not a complete numpty...there are two of us at least!!!
Yeah British comedians are like 95% terrible. Ricky is funny though. I mean, most American comedians are also fucking trash, but all the funniest comics in history are American. Plus I'm gay.
UK stand up is so far ahead of yankoid standup lmao its not even funny. Nick literally thinks Keeping Up Appearances is peak comedy which tells you everything you need to know.
Yeah Americans don't really understand British sarcasm or dry humor and Gervais is the epitome of that style of comedy. Not surprised they don't like him
Joking aside, they completely missed the irony on that photo. Also, Gervais would eat these internet clowns alive. And also I'm pretty sure the only Gervais Stav watched was "Talking funny".
I mean Gervais is quite the fucking clown still. Upon being told of a situation where dwarves were made to fight a lion he asked "wuz the lion ohkayy?? 🥺". Like yes we get it, you love animals and you're gay.
@@ocarrace Listen I'm gay, too. Who doesn't love to suck dick now and then, if you know what I'm saying. But Ricky Gervais is really funny except his last of his shit.
The only thing gayer than being Ricky is defending him on the internet in the comment section of a cumtown clip, he's not gonna fuck you man just give it up.
