So much of this is brilliant. Ronan Farrow was indeed the journalist who broke the Weinstein story. When he makes the joke about most the dead celebrities being white people, the camera does a shot from behind Ricky of the audience and the one black person I can make out is an employee of the hotel. And then he tells the whole audience of celebs to F off to end the show. Absolutely amazing. 😂 PS: the joke about Judy Dench ended with licking her own “minge,” which is British slang for a woman’s crotch.
As a fellow Brit myself Ricky is a national treasure and should host more award shows; he's the one who brings in the viewers...when he aint hosting, they fail miserably.

The Meryl Streep joke about that 1982 film "Sophie's Choice" is a dark humor holocaust joke. She played the main character who was forced by the Nazi Camp Commandant to choose which of her children would be sent to the gas chamber. Gervais' joke about a remake is basically saying the only other choice Sophie has if she had to do the same thing again in the remake is to choose the only other child that lived to be killed. He's also pointing out the absurdity of many of these recent remakes.

Sophies Choice was a film about WW2 and the Nazis. The 'choice' was a part where the Nazis force Meryl Streeps character to choose which of her children is killed via a gas chamber. If she doesn't choose then both would be killed. The joke was that, in the first film, the Nazis killed one of them (I won't spoil it just in case) and then the sequel would be them just killing the other.

Everybody is right and everybody is wrong! Really? Yes we are in a polarizing political environment at this time in our still young democracy but it’s very important to get things right. Even actors are still American citizens and they do carry a responsibility to voice their opinions whether you agree or not. I’m 68 now but if Jan 6th has taught us anything, our system while not perfect has to be adhered to. Truth matters.
