Ricky Gervais makes a funny acceptance speech for his British Comedy Award in 2001 for the office. His politically incorrect speech teases his producer who uses a wheelchair.
I forget how old the office is till I watch the scene when they are in the Chasers in series 1 and they are all dancing to "Out of your mind" by Dane Bowers- and some of the extras have curtain style haircuts
"He wanted me to tell you that so you didnt think he won a competition" 😂 Ash has got the best sense of humor in the world - things he has put up with from Ricky! Top man
@@andy6576 you're an idiot, but @Sebastian United you're also an idiot, he said at the time he had no problem with the jokes, although he said it made him "a little uncomfortable", and were the same thing to happen now he wouldn't let them make so many jokes about his disability because he wouldn't want to be defined by it
The irony really. Gervais can give a biting speech and everyone knows it's not malicious or patronising, while Widdicombe just shows a complete lack of understanding and makes herself look like an arse.
Fucking genius, when Ash does the 'wanker' motion with his hand and Ricky says "He can't help that" - as if it's some sort of involuntary twitch due to his disability. He's so good at playing that ignorant person who doesn't really understand what's PC and what isn't. Anne however did this for real without irony when she said "Can you manage that...they're kind of heavy" to Ash in the wheelchair when handing him the award. Brilliant.
hilarious, it proves if you're funny and smart enough you can get away with anything as long as it isnt mean spirited. IT also helps that the brits have thick skin, in other countries the PC brigade would've exploded in anger
I hate PC culture and even I thought this was pretty insensitive. Of course the dude is all smiles on the outside but I can't imagine anyone in his position wanting to be the punchline of some smarmy young millionaire's quips.
kdt I'm afraid you are incorrect. The UK does possess a constitutionally recognised and protected right of freedom of speech. The guarantee of freedom of expression is contained in Article 10 of the Human Rights Act and is of course binding upon UK common law
kdt kdt kdt The problem is that you don't seem to understand the nature of the UK constitution. It is flexible, it is organic. Nevertheless, written or unwritten (as in entirely codified), the UK still has a constitution. The Human Rights Act is indeed binding. Only in rare cases a declaration of incompatibility may be made by the courts, which is last resort. You don't need an appreciation of British or EU law, you don't need to have studied law to know this. The fact that the Scottish man got convicted is appaling, our freedom of speech certainly needs work. Ultimately however, you need to understand that a constitution may derive from a number of places, not just one document.
kdt Yet the UK does have freedom of speech, in practice, t is when it conflicts with 'far right' views that it is no longer applicable. You can't completely write a country off like that.
kdt Except when 'hate speech' enters play... yes. It seems like you're almost there. Our freedom of speech is not perfect or unlimited, yet its still widely protected. I don't know where you are from, I would hazard a guess. Lets take the USA for example. Flag desecration was illegal up until the late 80s and continues to be a touchy subject of debate and proposed amendments. How about the Patriot Act and indefinite detention without trial, unwarrented surveillance... or the more recent national defense authorisation act signed by Obama. These are fundementally unconstitutional yet prime authoritive sources of law. My point is that there are limits on all our rights, don't assume any country is different.
he doesnt claim he wrote and directed it himself he just doesnt mention steve every time he talks about it. I dont think steve gives two shits either to be honest
@@hublotkingcole683 No, he's spot on. Not even close to being a conspiracy. You can be a fan of Ricky but at the same time acknowledge he's a bit egotistical.
Back in the day when you thanked everyone involved lol. Now 😮 lol. They are lucky to be involved with you x quite right you are a fabulous writing team 👍
Did anyone notice Johnathon Ross's pants. What a howl. In regards to Ricky, Love him. All I have to do is look at his face and see his shagrin, and I start laughing because you never know what to expect.
Nice one , I was wondering who the person was standing there like a lame giraffe, bugs me when women stick their leg out a split skirt like that as if we all want a look at it.
Katie Fraser I’m sure Ricky Gervais couldn’t run and manage a successful production company. I couldn’t... actually I could do what he does. And I think he knew that even back then, probably what spurred him on.
For some reason in the late 90s she was something of a minor celebrity for being a strange political character. I suspect that has something to do with it. She's been on all manner of crummy TV shows in the last 10 years, probably to pay the bills as her political career tanks.
Ironic how Ann Widdecombe is the person handing out the comedy award to 'The Office' which involves David Brent's ignorance and rather patronising way he deals with disabled people, and yet when she hands the award to Ash Atalla in the wheelchair she actually says "Can you manage it? It's a bit heavy. Okay?". Jesus fucking Christ.
