Where did this come from? I am a rural Australian,age 78,back in the 70’s and 80’s we had one local pub about an hour out of Melbourne, a big mixture of people , commuting workers, like wharfies, tradies, professionals, farmers , shearer’s, council workers, shopkeepers etc. In that mix there were Communists , Labourites, Conservatives, hard Rightests, all sorts ; you know what , we all used to drink , laugh, joke, argue , play pool etc and there was rarely a fight. We knew each other’s views but never really cared , and now we are in the so-called Information age when we should all be much smarter and we have seemingly gone back to some kind of primitive tribalism; I’m buggered if I saw that coming and I totally do not understand it.

It's only how you learn if you check the sources and listen to the answers. Too many people only listen to the ones who bolster up their pre held beliefs.
Questioning everything works the same as agreeing with everything. And that was Ricky's point. It's not enough to question something. You have to give reasonable arguments for your doubts. That involves a process of discussion with arguments, not with feelings.
But questioning should come out of a desire to LEARN. To enlighten oneself about something we are unaware of or unknown to us… but this is seen as ignorance and stupidity… and we must not EVER admit that because it’s considered weak and vulnerable. Instead we only seem to ask questions to prove someone else is wrong when they give the “wrong answer” and we THINK we know exactly what the right answer is so we can fire back how ignorant they are. It’s only used as an attack. And when we have a society of people unwilling to learn and only wanting validation for their points of view, then it’s just about engaging in a war of righteousness and egotism.
If you question whether Trump is the best candidate you are on the right track (assaulted women; stole employer’s confidential documents intending to be interesting to ignorant people by doing so and intending to sell potentially dangerous confidential information; called followers to violence; lied for years about birthplace of someone knowing questioning it will make ignorant people believe it …) though questioning what you are told and can verify is an EASY issue to understand. I remember a time in the early 80's when everything was acceptable in my world. My friends came from every walk of life, alternate cultures and religions, and that was okay. We did not hate each other. It is so sad to see where we are today. Then again, I'm a scientist so I trust the facts.

Another thing that bothers me in these interviews is that they don't fact check a lot of the times. I've never seen this particular interview so I don't know if they did fact check those women but that's also a partial part of the problem is if they're not getting the news even when they're being asked the questions, then they're not ever getting the real news.
Comedians often excel in things they adopt as their secondary roles. I think it derives from an ingrained appreciation of absurdism vs existentialism and the ability to meld the two.

I gave up social media years ago. I like nothing better than having a good chat with people about the world and I was finding it too easy to try to correct ill informed people about things and I was getting dragged into too many arguments that I knew I shouldn’t but couldn’t help myself sometimes. Best stay off social media is my belief now

That way, we could ascertain who was genuine and discard those that weren't. Sometimes, that didn't work either, but your chances were better! Also, it seems like as time goes on it only gets worse. When I was you g, my dad and I would debate a topic. It wasn’t staged. We just talked about stuff at the dinner table. My dad always disagreed and then waited and listened while I put my case. No anger, just teaching me to listen and respond with common sense and facts. I was 12. Loved that man❤️
In 7th grade, my history teacher told us that there was a lot of history that our text books did not cover, and suggested that we research for ourselves. That led to her being dismissed, and me and my classmates clashing with the establishment ever since. That was in 1966. I don't think anything has changed on that front, except now, the teachers are the ones that recieved that abridged education.

We haven’t lost the ability to debate, we are just not allowed to anymore. When you say something and the person you have said it to is ‘offended’ it immediately closes down the dialogue. At that point you might as well go home. Words that have been used in this country for generations, like ending a comment with ‘sunshine’ or ducky, or ‘my dear’. Parts of local dialect that are being lost because they might be seen as disrespectful or offensive or racist. It’s no wonder that the country has descended into such despair.

I count myself as Christian, because I try to follow Christian principles and the teachings of Christ, so you would think that I disagree with Ricky. And yet I fully agree with everything he said, the ability of science to question and correct itself is what we all should aspire to.
Same here. While I have been a Christian since my youth, I have constantly tried to learn more about it, and challenge what I believe. I have had to change my mind on a lot of things over the years. I find science fascinating, even if I don't fully comprehend it all. I agree with Ricky on some things and disagree with him on others, but I can say that about anyone. I just don't agree with everything anyone thinks, but I can listen to what they have to say and will try to understand to the best of my ability. Sometimes, I have had to change my thinking, and sometimes I just continue to disagree.
I grew up in a very religious Roman catholic household. I went to church every Sunday with our family, went to Catholic Schools, and studies the bible on Saturdays in Catechism classes. I was a very curious boy, interested in all aspects of science. However, when I started questioning the accuracy and validity of God and the bible, I was met with threats and anger, no answers whatsoever. The usual threat was "You will burn in the fires of Hell if you ask that question again". I was 7 years old. When I first started questioning and getting answers like that. So I started reading everything; all books all opinions. It didn't take long to see through the indoctrinating tactics used on children and by 15 I was fully atheist. Some, not all, "Christian" acquaintances still think that there is a hell of fire, and that's where I'll end up without a physical body but somehow feeling the pain of fire and the "wrath of god".... even though I'm a good person, considerate of others, and and have been all my life.

Like you, I much rebelled against the church as a youngster. I questioned everything. Hated Sunday school, still went to bible school and then confirmation at 16, much later than most of my peers. But did so to please the parents. I still consider myself Christian, I just don't go to church. I think church is the worst thing that could have happened to Christianity. I love challenging other Christians, the ones who attend church every Sunday, on scriptures. Some just have no clue, yet they still go to church. It is not against God that you should have rebelled but against the institution of church. I also hold the belief that most atheists are far more decent and better people than some Christians who hide behind their religion. This guy I'm currently seeing is an atheist but I will not force my beliefs on him. That is not what God would want. Instead I will show who I am through my actions. Whether he converts or not, is his choice. I will love and adore him irrespective.
Thanks Ricky for pointing out the basic premise of scientific thought and critical thinking. We need to keep open minds and always be looking to see things in a different way, to try to advance our intellects, and to keep our egos out of it as much as we can. Being wrong about something doesn’t make us a bad person. We need to be open to chaging our views as new evidence comes to light.

I do not think Ricky is focussing on this female teacher who supports Trump. His main point is free speech which is being suppressed, in the West, too.
The most concerning part is that she is proud to be a teacher and give her opinion on Harris and Politics, but she clearly never heard of the Border Bill that Trump and the Republicans chose to oppose. Because that bill clearly showed the Biden - Harris are concerned about the border in a way that should please her.

I'm really glad you shared that story about Warwick. If I'm ever out anywhere with my grandson and we happen to see a person with dwarfism and he asks about it, I would now be inclined to politely ask that person if they're happy to talk to my grandson about it. I get your point. Kamala definitely has certain “smarts” together with a law degree and make it up the political ladder. I think what these women are trying to say is she lacks in common sense or more so her policies are disastrous to the economy and to our very freedoms. She wants to limit free speech, take patents away from companies if they don’t do what she wants, set mandatory prices on goods and services that will cause many more problems than it can fix.
