these same commentators were pro lennox, hamed, amir khan and calzaghe even against his fight with both americans roy jones and hopkins, so your opinion is “fascinating” indeed
So after re-watching this thing... Hatton was really digging the left hook to the body. He landed 2 other really good shit to the same area in the previous 30-45 seconds. He was really targeting Castillos body, and it paid off. I thought it was just one of those fluke shots, but no, Hatton was putting in some really good body shots. Good on him.
I watched Hattons career and it was his trademark shot. The commentators were thick and did zero research on him.. He put a load of his opponents on one knee. No fighter gets up once they hit a knee.
Hatton was a p4p fighter, but he was in the hardest weight class that's been in a long time, the only people who got near hatton was the two men who beat him. Floyd and pacman. Noone could have took hatton other those two.
Stephen Dunn That may be true. But Hatton wanted to fight the best of the best. That's why he chose to fight Tszyu. I think he'd have taken Cotto out, but sadly, that fight was never made. Pity, it would have extended his career and enhanced his reputation.
Stephen Dunn Of course, but there is a case to be made that he fought Manny at the wrong time, acknowledging his loss to Mayweather and considering how lacklustre he looked against Pacquiao.
José Luis castillo after the corrales fight was never the same. After that fight Castillo never got his career on track. Even joe goosen mentioned. Props to hatton. He’s a warrior
@@luissalazar9141 yes he did but what he is trying to say is that even tho Castillo won the second match both of thoses fights took alot out if him need too understand by the time Castillo beat Mayweather in 2002 of the first match Castillo was already an out of prime Boxer by the time he fought hatton he was way out of his time Jose Luis Castillo is a boxer of the early 90s time
@@highmeadows2030 exactly castillo was already going downhill by the time hatton fought him and the corrales fights as well altough both hatton and corrales were very good boxers.
High Meadows Last time i checked Mayweather beat Castillo both times 🤔..... he even beat him the first time with an injured shoulder and handicapped to not throw his straight right hand. Compare Mayweather against Castillo the second fight and see as he dominates Castillo with straight right hands and CLEARLY beats him the second time as should have happened the first time BUT SINCE MAYWEATHER WAS INJURED he could not throw his straight right hands barely at all the first fight and even said prior to the fight that his shoulder was injured but Mayweather he didnt want to postpone the fight and fought through it and even said in his corner during the 1st fight that his shoulders hurting him. Castillo got beat by an injured Mayweather and dominated by a healthy Mayweather lol
HAtton was definitely under appreciated!!solid warrior he was and his strength was his biggest weakness lol how ironic!!my opinion ofcourse!!i just believed he over pursued and positioned himself to walk into counter hooks or if boxer was great at fighting backwards hatton was tailored made for that type of countering!!but in my book he was great fighter very skillful place puncher too!!
No disrespect to pac man but I believe he over pursues as well...problem Is most fans dnt understand things like this and dnt see it as a fault especially when Pac-Man wins...however I predict he will be ko’d once again bf finally retiring bc of of above mentioned point ..he is over aggressive doesn’t collect himself enough n charges too much with such short reach!however ofcourse he is a legend!btw am always exciting legend unlike my guy 😆
What a support Hatton had that night. No american has EVER enjoyed that type of love and support in the ring. Even Ali had to come to England to get the love and adoration he deserved. Hatton may not have been the best but he went to war and the fans loved him for it !!
Hatton fights like a tank. Full on charging regarless of the opponent's barrage. He has a lot of faith in his signature head to body shot finisher though. Results are devastating.
Hatton wasnt quite in the same class as the greats of the division, but to be the guy that would finish Tszyu's reign is something he can hang his hat on forever. It was a shock to the boxing world.
There's no shame in losing to two of the greatest of all time. Ricky was a very good boxer with one of the best body punches I've seen, (as evidenced in this fight). He wasn't one of the all time greats but he deserves some credit. Bringing up Tzyu's age is a little disingenuous though. He was still a world class operator going into that fight. Same age as Mayweather is now in fact.
Cortez Armstrong shut the fuck up bitch get out of here with that racist bullshit when someone’s racist to you then you want to act like a total bitch there’s no double standards fuck outta here Castillo was robbed so get your sorry dumb ass out of the comment section it’s only for people who know boxing
Johnny Kool Floyds real record should be 47-1-1 no contest. Castillo beat him,he was caught with the Iv against Manny which should be a no contest, and his show against Conor was all a big act for entertainment
@@Lemon-rk9hq Castillo def won that first Mayweather fight. Not saying he won by a large margin but he won. But Mayweather was given the win because he produces too much money for boxing. If he were to get a loss his fights wouldn't even be ppv anymore.
Ricky was beaten so easily by Floyd. Castillo fighting Floyd without an injury for a handicap in their second fight showed Castillo never had a chance against a healthy Mayweather.
The ref never let Hatton fight same ref as well was a disgrace was obviously on payroll posing for pictures at the end watch the fight back count the number of times he breaks fighters up in this fight and mayweather fight it’s a disgrace
Castillo para esta época había perdido velocidad ,pegada ,condición física, no se ,si no se preparaba bien, o simplemente estaba de salida, fue quien derrotó a Floyd, no lo duden
Hatton, calzaghe, and I even loved the Prince Naseem Hamed! PNH was actually one of the first fighters that got me to fall in love with boxing as a teen! Unfortunately his hands fell apart on him at a young age but when you throw the type of power punches he threw throughout his entire career it is definitely understandable for sure! Hell I never actually boxed competitively aside from with friends with 16 ounce sparring gloves but did constantly workout with a heavy bag all the time usually for my cardio using it to work on both my footwork and for furiously punching it as if I was fighting 3 min rounds against it and even though I would wrap my hands as well as wear glove mits by the time I was 22 I would wake up the next morning with my hands all closed up and wouldn't be able to actually open them up for sometimes an hour or so after I would actually peel each one open one finger at a time! It was extremely painful and when I went to the Dr and not only explained what would happen but also showed the Dr what they looked like first thing in the am right when I would first wake up the Dr said that if I didn't stop using the heavy bag when I did my hands would be almost useless in no time! It really upset me at the time but I really didn't understand the trauma that your hands actually go through even when they are taped up correctly! I actually drove a 92 Jeep Wrangler at the time with a standard transmission and was working that summer for a developer who owned lots of apt complexes and my duty each morning was to get up around 530 and then drive to the first complex to skim the pool as well as empty the filter and put the needed chlorine in by 6 am. I would actually drive there with my hands basically swollen shut and would have to both steer and shift basically with my palms until I was able to eventually get them to open up and flex my hand and finger joints over and over again until I was able to open and close them without peeling them open by pushing my fingers against something and moving my arms accordingly which would eventually get them to open up and had to keep repeating till I would get the blood flowing again and would get my feeling back! If.i would of known the permanent damage that I would have at that time I would of never ever done it! I'm only 41 and have had arthritis in the knuckles of both my hands since my early 20s and also have really bad blood flow throughout my fingers that actually caused me to quit both skiing in the winter and wakeboarding in the summer because of not only how painful it was to hold onto a ski rope and how cold my hands would get because of lack of circulation which would make my hands numb even with gloves on! These were both two of my favorite pastimes and I haven't been able to do either since my late 20s! If any young people actually read this please take care of your body as best you can when you are young because you aren't invincible! Also if you are maybe contemplating playing football really think about how bad you want to because the injuries I acquired then remind me almost daily and although aside from a broken leg and hand that I continued to play with for over two years before I actually let it heal completely because I didn't want to let anyone down or say that because of the pain I couldn't play anymore because that would show me as weak because as long as I wore a special padded glove and taped my hand I was still physically able to still play through it! I now know how stupid that was and that for my coaches and team drs and trainers to allow me to not only play through the season with it but also didn't allow for me to let the fracture heal even after the season ended because almost immediately after we would already start lifting weights and training for next season! If they gave two shots about me they would of at least said you need to allow for this to heal completely before starting to train for next season but they didn't and I was too brainwashed and or stupid to open up my mouth in fear of someone coming in and taking my spot if I wasn't there! This is what is wrong with sports in America especially then cuz a concussion was just looked at as a bad headache that would be fine by the next day and there was no reason to not practice or play unless you were a sissy and couldn't play through a lil pain and or inconvenience! Knowing what I know now it was actually criminal what they did to not just me but everyone else as well! I actually remember one definite concussion I received when I hit a snack that had picked off the ball on the other side of the field and was running full speed at me because I had ran an out pattern on the opposite side and he never seen me because he kept looking behind when he was running right at me cuz he never knew I not only was there but running at him full speed as well and last thing I remember was I don't think he sees me and that this is going to be one hell of a collision! After the hit the first thing I actually could remember is that my whole body hurt and I got up and saw him out cold on the field, I couldn't hear anything other than a massive ringing in my head and I got in the huddle as if we were on defense cuz of the turnover. I then remember our qb calling a timeout and telling my coach to get me off the field. I was so confused but they then told me when I hit him he fumbled the ball and we recovered it back but I had no idea that happened and unbelievably after only two plays my coach asked me if I was ok and sent me back in even though I obviously had a bad concussion and not only did I have a blinding headache all I could hear is a ringing and womp sound for the rest of the game! The craziest part was I was basically useless from then on and had no more receptions and I think might of only contributed to maybe two more tackles the rest of the game which was I believe a quarter and a half left. Up until then I had like 6 catches for like 50 yards and one td as well as 5 sacks but could barely remember what I was supposed to do from then on but they still decided to keep me in! I apologise for the long comment but it made me think of all the bs I have to put up with now and if I can help one young person that might read this it will be worth it! Sorry to everyone else
Castillo was no longer in his prime by the time he fought Hatton. It's true he wasn't that old (I think he was about 34 in this fight) but remember that athletes prime at different ages and for varying time spans. Also I think the ferocious fight with Corrales and his going up a weight class contributed to his decline as well. Not every boxer can assimilate extra weight which is why some prefer to stay in one weight class their whole career. Just look how lackluster Castillo was in his win against that African fighter, after he moved up to fight him.
Just watched an interview with Ramirez in the Barrera/Morales Un Round Mas channel in which he said that he was not all mentally there because the day before he discovered that his wife was cheating he also mentioned that he could have gotten back up after the body shot but in the state of mind he was in he did not care too , he also said that he does not take anything away from Hatton a though fighter that always comes forward .
American commentators having to swallow bile if they were forced to say something remotely positive about someone not hailing from North America. Hatton "held" his way to the top of world boxing. How were these guys allowed in front of a mic??
Hindsight is a great thing when it comes to “coulda, shoulda, woulda but I’d love to have seen how much better Hatton may have been had he not lived so badly in between fights. It had to take more out of him in training camps having to work extra hard shedding the booze and fried food weight he always ridiculously gained 😞
He beat what was left of Castillo. No disrespect to Hatton, of course. He was a great fighter, but I honestly think Castillo was done even before this, and he was always too small for Hatton. Regarless, a lot of respect for both who gave us so much of them in the ring.
I find it really strange that in Hatton vs Mayweather these same announcers had no problem with Hatton holding and his style. It was all Mayweather's fault until Hatton got knocked out. But now the comment is Hatton is doing the holding. This whole fight looks suspect. Castillo is a better fighter than this.
Even funnier how Cortez was allowing Hatton to use his hit, hold and mauling tactics in this fight but against Mayweather he would break the action if Hatton even got close to Mayweather. And Cortez taking points away from Castillo for a borderline shot while Hatton has him in a headlock.
@@fjghahahavbig654 he wasnt a dirty fighter at all bullying his opponents and overpowering them isnt dirty, not headbutting low blowing or elbowing at all though still excessive holding
To be fair it don’t matter if Castillo was same fighter he once was, if that body shot hits any fighter your in trouble!!! Ricky Hatton what a warrior..
Lmaooooo still he won get off his dick he won both fights stop that it was a decade plus ago and yall still talking huh he's undefeated he's retired and y'all still mad about the fight my thing is this is a Hatton and Castillo fight how tf are ya'll even talking about that
Thats why Hatton was a fan of Roberto Duran. He also did quite a lot of holding in fights. The next fight after this was Mayweather and he was doing a lot of holding.Hatton dug really hard to the body thats why Rog Mayweather got Cortez to split them when Hatton was getting inside to load the shots to floydys ribs.
Didn't know Hat was a fan of "hands of steel" Holding seems like a cheap way to get an advantage. Perhaps bossing commission should consider penalizing for holding excessively??
I love Ricky he's a great guy. He's not big headed and he can poke fun at hinself. I love watching him do the body shots just awsome great guy love him to bits.
Ricky hatton, what a fighter, and he had a great chin despite his KO losses, he took bombs from Tszyu, bombs from mayweather, and he was past his prime against Pacquiao, what a fighter. And Ricky is of Irish descent too, descended from irish bare knuckle boxer Daniel Slattery, here in the states we call him Ricky O'Hatton lol!!!!
It baffles me how experienced boxers fail to return to their corner after knocking their opponent down. Time after time it gives them extra time to recover when normally they would have been counted out?
gino dela cruz Hatton had the shittest training camp, he jumped to a new trainer, massive mistke went into that fight slow and sluggish and was promtly ko by pacman Hatton says he'd have done BETTER under his old training but as a REAL man addmited that pacman would have won. it takes someone who has a massive cock to admit shit like that and just be happy with what you got.
I'd also like to make a point that Mark heffron was supposed to take place in the All-Irish prizefighter on the undercard of McCloskey-Corley. Key word there, ALL-IRISH Betfair Prizefighter.
Have you noticed it’s the same ref as when Hatton thought Floyd but he doesn’t seem to brake these two up when there fighting but did against Floyd every time
the only historical links we have to england are the fact that they tried to take us over, succeeded, but we fought back, got our independence as a country, and Northern Ireland decided to remain with Great Britain due to religious differences. But nothing racial or ethnic like you were suggesting.
Have you ever wondered why Americans do so well at boxing? Here's a clue. Promoters: Americans Referees: Americans Judges: Americans Think about something - which other sport in the world would allow three American judges judging a contest between an American and a Brit? It wouldn't happen in any other sport. That's the real reason so many Americans hold titles.
@MrConnolly yes but he is Oldham Irish, his mother is from kildare and his father is Irish as well, he wore the Irish flag in his fight against billy smith, and his brother fights under an Irish license, yeah, he ain't english. And he does have punching power, check out his first round KO against Wayne Downing.
love ricky being a brit and all, but i have to be honest he was a great fighter and entertainer, but he was never in the class of manny p or floyd mayweather.
I agree. Hatton was Castillo's 65th fight. And those wars like the ones he had against Corrales, end people...Chavez vs Taylor, Gatti vs Ward, etc..They may fight after..but they're never the same
Not only that, Ngoudjo beat Castillo pretty easily. I remember watching that fight and feeling really bad for Ngoudjo even though I was pulling for Castillo. Terrible decision that night.
This version of Castillio is washed, the one who fought Floyd would have beet the brakes off Haton, Castillo looked like he wasn't even there from round one on.
Hatton was overrated somewhat. He was working on Castillo's right kidney the entire match though. The match against Kosyta Tszyu wasn't pretty if anything Hatton frustrated him with all the grappling. Hatton did have potential if he was properly trained. Mayweather Sr. had him going in the right direction. Hatton just didn't listen, went back into his old ways of jumping in with his hands down. Too set in his ways and Pacquaio got the best of him. Not much to it.
While weighting in 3 pounds heavy. That's a big advantage. You get your wind back quicker, you recover from being hurt quicker, and you are generally a lot stronger with that kind of advantage. Theres a reason why commissions wont sanction fights if one guy is too much over the contracted weight. Plus the belt wasn't on the line, so Chico went balls to the wall. It doesn't mean that Castillo wasn't ruined after their first fight. He was. So was Corrales. God bless them both for that night.
Hah. No. The Compubox operator gave Castillo free points for just touching Floyd's body he was protecting. Floyd was also 2 days injured but was still affective and accurate. Castillo was 10 pounds heavy too. He wasn't beating Floyd legitimately.
eh idk if i go for that, all those things wouldn't be a disadvantage against a heavily out favored opponent. Having those wars would have given him the experience and maturity to handle and outbox a brawler like Hatton. It was just Hatton's night and i don't take anything away from him for this beautiful body KO
The fight was built up on the hype of Castillo’s past legendary fights with Corrales...unfortunately Castillo was past his best at this point and Hatton was living in a false economy of cheap victories until he met Pacman and was brutally KO’d. Respect to Castillo and Hatton tho for their memorable fights over the years.
@@jesusenriquehernandezsolan1123 He did better than the first but not enough to win. And Mayweather gave him a rematch thankfully to settle it once for all
@@jesusenriquehernandezsolan1123 I think the rematch was the final conclusion on what was what between those 2..tgen Ricky Hatton demolished him, and look what Floyd did to Ricky hatton, the champion of Europe.
+TheAbear53 its the wear and tear of Castillo's resulted in a shorter prime. And most boxers after the age of 30 begin to decline anyway. Castillo was in a lot of wars, and a lot of those weren't even high profile fights. Your body can only take so many punches. Sometimes its just one fight that can damage your prime. Vargas's chin was never the same after Tito's loaded wraps and going through that war. It happens. Boxing is a sick brutal sport.
(HUGE SARCASM) OK everybody Hatton DID NOT break 4 of his ribs with that body shot. OK so rest assure he never broke 4 of Castillo's ribs. It was just a chance happening. Nothing to worry about. "HOOK AND HOLD" ONLY remember? He was only hook and hold. You break 4 of someone's ribs by hooking and holding ONLY ok?
