Ricky Lawson on drums for: Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Steely Dan , Eric Clapton, Yellowjackets, Al Jarreau, Babyface, Dee Dee Bidgewater, George Duke , Randy Crawford, Quincy Jones... and on and on.... What a legend!!! 5 STARS +
What a great compliment for another renowned drummer to try to work out your drum parts! Truly humble dude. Check out Ricky with Steely Dan..Friggin' crapped my knickers..twice!!!
very few can emulate Garibaldi, or get close to his sound. Ricky (RIP) has a great feel and groove and shows us reality trying to duplicate some of the toughest grooves. note for note maybe not so hard but to sound as like David Garibaldi..he is truly one of a kind..two greats here....they both inspired so many..
Thank you so much for just being a human.. David's playing is so unique..I studied David's code of funk book and I think I said "I don't got it yet" more times than I want to admit...💜💜
Ricky Lawson came to our high school (Chaffey high school) Last week and he is going to be playing with us in our winter concert with us and I think its a HUGE honor and Ricky Lawson is a very great guy to know =)
Fabulous Fantastic Legend Drummer Just shows how human he is When challenged Cold to play Squib cakes He like countless others including yours truly had to work it out The opening of Squib cakes is trickier than most think and It took me a while to learn it as Garabaldi first played it. Now I have it down cold.. RIP RICKY
When a fellow Percussionist leaves us it is sad.He had sure got David Garibaldi's groove down, too. It took a bit but played it close enough. God be with him.
The very charming and great drummer R.L. playin' one of garibaldi's harder grooves. And trust me guys, if he was more prepaired, he'd nail the groove. No doubt about that. But Of course no drummer will be able to play David's original with that special sound and touch he had back then. It would be the same as if to ask Mangini, Lang, minnemann and other equilibrists to play Rosanna by Toto's Jeff Porcaro. Or fool in the rain by Bonham or some Purdie Stuff.
Alex Lawson the gamer Alex, just reading that Ricky passed away. What happened? My condolences. He was a favorite of mine. Especially his stuff on, "Rapture" and the Yellowjackets material.
That's not possible, because Ricky was my age, my class at Cooley High, and there was no 'middle school' in Detroit then til years later, just Jr. High. Secondly, when he was that age Ludington didn't exist, it was Metattal, I know, because I went there in '69. Then to Cooley. Any questions? He was in my class '72 at Cooley-go spread your BS somewhere else .
@triondrummer I don't doubt his playing, I hear and I see what should be all funky drummers "groove of grooves", that old T.O.P funk. Yes I saw him with MJ to.
Love you Ricky - my brother, I'm so sad you are not just a call away. But, you better answer if I need immediate answers!!! Counting on you . . . and yes, I'm doing fine - thanks brother.
