One of the best rockers Ricky ever did.Great guitar by James Burton. This music knocks spots off todays crap they call music.I seem to think the two dislikes concerning this song must be from spice girl fans
I was 14 when I first heard this track in the late 50s and my music mag at the time said it all: "The girls came along to scream and swoon at Ricky; the guys just came to hear James Burton play" And to think -- James was only 18 when this was recorded ....
"Believe What You Say" is a song written by Dorsey Burnette and Johnny Burnette in 1958. Backing Ricky is Gene Garf on piano, James Kirkland on stand up bass, Richie Frost on drums and James Burton on lead guitar.
@@kathleenmckeithen118 Kathleen why would you say that ? Elvis had that suave Southern gentleman appeal that the girls would go crazy over. He always carried himself well, except maybe until the end. He had some of the most beautiful women of his time and I'm sure it wasn't just his looks or his money.
@@kathleenmckeithen118 Did you think so? I can't ever recall hearing him speak that way. He had a lot of love for his mother and he enjoyed Gospel music. Maybe you know something I don't.
@@bluesybruce it’s what he actually used in the studio I heard somewhere he would use the telecasters and jazz masters in these live videos to throw people off to how he was getting his sound
Wunderschön mein Freund Ricky schade das ihr alle weg weg seid ja unsere Musik ist nicht mehr das gleiche die Besten sterben jung danke für die Erinnerung hätte die was gut
Great guy! Totally cool! Used to come down out of Lauurel Canyon to Ventura Blvd on his horse with his twins! 👋 so much love for his family. He was clean cut, always. Was Not into drugs! Rest in Heaven, Ricky! ❤🌹🦜✌🤙🏼👍🏼🎶⛵🍔🌴🎸🩴🩰✌📞☎️🦈🏴☠️
Wow, James Burton is playing a Rickenbacker Guitar how awesome is that! I have one, a 360 Ricky, He has a classic one, I would love to have that one as well. Totally cool
JAmes was such a natural. never need ing to look at the frets like a pro piano player does. They know the map in their head. unbelievable genius at such a young age and "young" instrument ie electri guitar. The riffs JB played were superb and added to the teen screamsd for Ricky and this new age of Rock n Roll.
I suspect I saw this episode first run. I would have been around 15 and tried to never miss the show. With respect to the song, Elvis was in the Army and Rick hired the Jordanaires to do back-up vocals on his recordings. This same song has the back-up vocals by the Jordanaires on LP.
Ricky shines on this song composed especially for him by rockabilly pioneer Johnny Burnette. Guitarist extraordinaire James Burton (later on stage with Elvis Presley during the seventies) plays one more classic solo at 0:50 on his Rickenbacker guitar.
James is seen with a very early fat-body Rick here, another slightly later video shows him with a Gretsch 6120, the studio recording heard here sure sounds like a Telecaster, I wonder if the guitar companies were giving him guitars to use on TV because of his exposure??
+Johngonefishin Burton played a '53 Telecaster on all the recordings and strapped on the Rick and Gretsch just for show. www.elvis.com.au/presley/jamesburton_rockabillyroyalty.shtml
Rick Nelson was so great at having hits he was pretty good like Elvis was having double-sided hits I wonder how the flip side of this record did but I don't know what was on the flip side of I believe what you say I'll bet you he had a hit with it whatever 0:41 I thought I'd give Rick Nelson some credit from having a quite a few hits one of his best record's. 0:41

Well, I believe, do believe, Yeah, believe Well, believe, pretty baby, believe You're goin' steady with nobody else but me...
Wonderful that there's three filmed versions of this song surviving...Rick in striped shirt, check jacket and this one... a powerhouse song with the flip 'My bucket's got a hole in it' also in the key of A. In old valve driven radiogram players with a heavy stylus fans heard these songs on a 78 really belt out...
As good as it can possibly get. And maybe it's me, but Ricky here looks like a younger Elvis. Maybe it's the (Brylcreemed?) hair and eyebrows. In any case, I'll bet a LOT of rock & roll singers were trying their best to look like Elvis in those days.
it was a family show for Gods sake and they were building up the ratings. I twas a new era coming along to suplant mom n dads show with the young guns. with new appeal to the kids
