Ricoh made some great cameras. I have used many of them (incl. The Ricoh Diaflex 6x6 TLR). The 500 RF series was not a beautiful camera, but it is quite practical and reliable, with a great Tessar-formula lens and the option of full manual exposure. Good job on the nice video!
Theres a reason the 125 sec is painted green... you can operate in aperture priority... and full auto (set to A on aperture ring and 125 sec shutter speed)
Good and clear review on an underrated camera, which shoots sharp pictures. Please show some more photoos. Made on 400 ISO film. The camera on a tripod and f/11. A square with buildings. A car park with cars A landscape with trees.
I own several ricoh bodies. I like to use them . Only complaint is that sometimes lenses are not up to the job. Quality of manufacture is generally good.
Another enjoyable video, please keep them coming. Your gentle format is a pleasure to watch. These little rangefinder cameras from the 1950s to the early 1980s are such good fun. Most are way overpriced, but I suppose that's market forces. I'm so glad that you include examples of pictures taken with the camera. There's nothing more boring than watching 15 - 20 minutes of somebody talking about a camera and turning it over in their hands without showing some results. It's akin to a discussion about music without hearing the piece.
Good question, somehting I need to have a closer look at, because the RF also needs to be aligned. For a few of the photo's I needed to rotate and crop. Evenso, I was surprised by the results! We are in a lockdown at the moment and all non essential stores are closed. When they open I will go to my friend at the camera store and get his input.
Assuming the 500's are like the Ricoh Jet's, there should be a screw on the top plate on the left side of the camera(looking at the camera from the back), under that screw will be a heavily recessed screw, thats for vertical alignment. Then on the hot shoe, there should be 3 screws holding that in place. The screw on the bottom left of the hot shoe should also cover a smaller recessed screw for the horizontal alignment. I may be wrong on the horizontal adjustment screw though, whatever one of the two bottom screws is shorter houses the adjustment.
