Thank you, this helped me unjam my SE! If your shutter is stuck and film won't advance, the manual says you need to let all the tension out before loading the film. I didn't. So you need to release the tension in the winder manually. Open it up as he did and there is a gear directly below the lens on the bottom of the camera. The SE has four corners on this spinning gear. Use a toothpick to push the lever away that is stopping the gear. This will release it, but careful it is loud and startling. Let the tension out slowly until there's nothing left and the shutter button should pop back. That's it. Do take your time with it. That brown metal piece came off mine as well, added new adhesive, and the arrow on the film counter dial fell off. The shutter button falls out so watch that. And lastly when you reattach the front cover you'll have to hold the self-timer dial facing 12 o'clock against the tension of it's spring so it aligns with the parts below. Hope this saves someone some repair time
You just saved me! I’ve had this camera for 15 years at my parent’s house and I always assumed it simply didn’t work because the shutter was stuck. But I’ve just tried releasing the tension in the winder and was able to press the shutter all the way down! Thank you!
