Half frame cameras were invented at a time where the cost of film skyrocketed, but that is the same situation these days. Nevertheless, that’s not the reason I find it fun and interesting to shoot half frame cameras. I use them to tell small stories in a few images or create some very odd panoramas, where the film medium plays a role in the final image. As the resolution of a film image only half the size a full 35mm film image isn’t very great, it is not for sharpness or detail I produce these images, therefore I often go for a very different look and very often include motion blur in the image. Thus the final image has a more artistic look to it, and that is what I like with this type of images, if I want perfect sharpness and lots of detail I choose a high resolution medium format camera like my Hasselblad X2D, but when I go for creative, artistic images I often go with my half frame camera.
