The big small daddy of the Ricoh GR iii, the Ricoh GR1 (V) came first. Much earlier. Like twenty years or something. And in this video I'll share some of the street photography I did with this little point and shoot film camera in Seoul, South Korea. As well as some generic review stuff about the camera itself that you should not give too much thought to but I mentioned it anyway.
0:00 Ricoh gr1 and gr1v differences
0:28 Why I bought the ricoh gr1v
1:45 My opinion on film point and shoot cameras
2:58 Photos I took with the gr1v, Portra 400
4:00 Cinestill800t with light leaks
6:15 TMAX 400 and portraits
6:40 More Cinestill800t and my best photos
9:45 Would I buy it again?
This video was supposed to come out in 2021, when I say "this year", I mean 2021!

Great video dude :-) love your photos and I too cannot stop taking pictures at the DDP. Keep it up :-) and as for you having the Ricoh GR one I have the Ricoh GRD1, the very first digital version of the camera. It’s old, but I still love it’s black and white photos

One of the best GR1 videos out there. The camera’s body is actually made from magnesium hence the price nowadays + it has little cool features and one of the best optics for a p&s. I had the same leaking effect due to worn out foam around the film window as you mentioned but a cool old guy at the camera store replaced it for me with a new one in 5 minutes. Other cool p&s cameras are of course the Contax T Series (T1,T2,T3), Yashica T3,T4,T5, Olympus Mju II Stylus Epic-just a great little camera and lots of others known and unknown Canons, Nikons with faster lens from the 90’s.

Your film photos are always top. 👌 Agree on your argument on not wasting film on casual moments, I have been reflecting on this quite a bit since I started shooting film in the summer. My conclusion on having a compact film camera is that it's still worth it 1. Some of the the most precious photos are of friends and family when hanging out and bringing the xpan or similar is not ideal. 2. You might find yourself in a fantastic photography situation that will not look as good on digital and then it will be with you. A few weeks ago it started snowing heavily when I was in the office. 3. As a second body with different focal length or different film stock. I quite often go with a 50 mm on my main camera, but instead of having another lens and having to swap back and forth it's nice to simply have a second body with a wider focal length. I like cinestill, but don't always want that halation, put portra in second body.

Good points. Having a diff film stock especially is useful. I know I'd regret selling this immediately. Also I might have underestimated it a bit, it's definitely a body that can be used for serious photography especially when its better to be light or stealthy, I've just favored other cameras over it. Partly a symptom of having too many cameras 😂

If you never figured out your light leak issue - I have identical light leaks and putting tape on the film window hasn't fixed anything - I have yet to try my next fix (as I also didn't mind them that much up until now when I got tired of it) which I believe is the most likely given the location of the light leaks and that being the left side of the camera/film door - if you apply some pressure to that part and look from the side you should see some very small amount of give to it which is the most likely culprit of the leaks.

Beautiful shots… I tend to use my point and shoots during the day except for the Fuji Natura with its f1.9…

I've started my photography thing recently and never been to other countries(because of Covid19) with my camera. Is Korea lack of photogenic places? (cuz I've always thought Seoul is kinda difficult to take photos cuz really crowded things are not organized because of lots of mountains and stuff)
@teemu.mp4
@teemu.mp4 2 года назад
It depends on what style of photos you like. For me it's great. Seoul is also ideal for walking, not that many cities are as walkable - a huge factor for street photos. You cant walk like that in many cities which makes street photography so much harder. Korea also has many hikes for nature / city views. If you feel its too crowded just go to a different place or during quieter hours. The beauty of Korea isn't as immediately obvious as some other amazing photography places but it's definitely there. I was thinking to do a video titled "Korea is underrated for photography" but not sure if it's too niche.

@@teemu.mp4 hey thanks for the thoughts. Transportation in Seoul is insanely convenient. I always have been complaining about not having a photogenic places comparing to Japan or Europe but Seoul is really packed for things and it would make photographers to take something various things.. Thanks again for your thoughts again

Thank you for this video ! your shots are really nice. Do you use a tripod ? how do you take this kind of sharp pictures with such few light ? Thank you for your help
@teemu.mp4
@teemu.mp4 Год назад
No tripod, just steady hands and rain kind of doubles the light available so it's less dark than it seems.

Awesome ! What iso (film and setting on camera) are you using in this type of situation ?

(naïve question) do you put all your film negatives through lightroom etc or do the photos actually look like that? If you digitise the negative, then why bother with film (cameras are expensive/ decent film isn't cheap/ developing isn't cheap)? Really beautiful photos, though... inspiring, almost.

You cant change that much in lr. I make minor adjustments. The lab also does when scanning, because they have to change negatives to positives and judge the color. Film is a unique look. Try it and you'll get it. Actually I'm making a video on "why shoot film" right now.
