Good video, thank you. I had the original GR Digital about 10 years ago, but only got around to using it for Ebay photos, the excellent macro close -focus abilties. Later, I sold it. I recently bought a GX100, and am learning more about the abilities of that. Your comment about the position of the shutter button, compared with smartphones brought a grimace to my visage. I used to use Windows Phones, Nokia Lumias. I loved them, and they almost all had the camera shutter button as a physical button, in the right place for holding the phone like a compact camera. They were great. Unfortunately, Nokias are now all Android, which I hate, so I have to use an Iphone, which are awkward to use for fast photos. Anyway, thanks for putting up this video. Enjoyable, and informative.

Great to hear from you and thanks for watching! I must admit I've never used a Lumia (or even, from memory seen one!) but I can appreciate that with a 'sensible' shutter button they would have been much better for photography. As for the GX100, it is a very competent camera and I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment out of it.

Very good review, I’m not going to say that it looks like a good camera because based on the photos that you shared, it is a good camera, the one thing (probably the only) that makes it a deal breaker for me is the fact that it doesn’t have and EVF, I believe that depending on the ambient light condition it would give me the same problem with reflections just like my iPhone.
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment 2 года назад
I can sympathise with that opinion as I also like a viewfinder. However as somebody once said "If it ain't good enough, you ain't close enough", and that 28mm effective lens means that for the kind of photography this camera excels at, getting in close obviates the need for a viewfinder to a large extent.

Trying to figure out if I should buy an older grdiii 10mp or a newer griii 24mp... I wish they changed the names
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment Год назад
Budget allowing Kev the GRIII is obviously the better model, but there again it's older cousin can still produce great results. One thing, age isn't kind to cameras so if you go for the GRD it's essential that it is as near mint as you can find, preferably with some sort of warranty or return cover so that you can fully test it. Many thanks for commenting`!

I am sure that one will become available as the small sensor versions don't seem to hold the same attraction as those with the APS-C sensor. Keep looking, you will love it.

But they do have a hot-shoe? So a small accessory flash might be of interest, if flash photography is important to you.

@@feyyazogunc1868 The APS-C GRii does have a built-in flash as well as a shoe. The built in flash was indeed removed on the GRiii though.

Just got mine! thank you for this video. I was wondering, what SD card can you use for this camera? I'm having issues with mine regarding sd cards
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment 2 года назад
Hi Darrion, when you say "issues" what exactly is happening? Does the camera recognize that it has an SD card inserted? Mine has intermittently started to NOT recognize the card and it can take several "insertions" before it does. This is not uncommon but would require a repair to rectify. Let me know and thanks for watching!
@CrossFadeTunesz
@CrossFadeTunesz 2 года назад
@@photographyforenjoyment It does recognize that the SD card is inserted but (1) when half pressed, a warning says capacity short and (2) when fully pressed, it says format card. I'm currently using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC 64gb. Im wondering if that's a factor causing this. Do you happen to be using a SDHC 8gb card? Cheers!
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment 2 года назад
Try swapping out for a standard 32Gb card as I believe that's the MAX the camera will accept

Hello Simone, sadly my Ricoh GR Digital developed a fault that was not repairable and I no longer have it to use as a reference. From memory, I'm not sure it is adjustable? I have it in my mind that with the small sensor GRD models it was set to 1m? Personally, because it is a small sensor I would use f5.6 all the time and at that you will get substantial DOF when locked at 1m. I hope that helps and thank you for the question!

In your opinion, this camera in 2022 is still relevant as a black and white point-and-shoot? Even when compared a modern iPhone or APSC GR, does it still makes sense to purchase one?
@photographyforenjoyment
@photographyforenjoyment Год назад
Hello Dan and thanks for the question. If you want to compare it against the larger sensor GR models, then the only edge it has is a lower price. If you are prepared to pay the extra, then the APSC models will allow you more flexibility (cropping etc). Then of course the bigger sensor cameras are newer and possibly have a longer life span than the GR-D models. Personally, I prefer the more "natural" film effect that these give in monochrome, compared to the somewhat over-processed images coming out of iPhones. Don't get me wrong, I love smartphone photography but I just don't get the same buzz when using them!
@TheDanielduong
@TheDanielduong Год назад
I agree, there is a softer more “natural” look to these images. Something very pleasing to the eye. I bought one… and enjoying it very much. It’s a different tool. The shooting style is unique and different to a DSLR and the phone. Ricoh should bring these babies back!
@Dan-jg7zl
@Dan-jg7zl Год назад
Mobile phones are shit for photography. The sensor in the iphone is tiny. It relies of AI software to compensate for the small sensor and makes the photos muddy as hell.
@duringthemeanwhilst

firstly I have to disagree with your conclusion - the images are stunning (apart from the one at 12:00 - that's just a load of rubbish)!! but I agree that B&W is where this camera excels. certainly the best images I got from it were mono, and with the macro setting too (that is quite remarkable for such a little camera). anyway, you DID do it justice Alan, and I think it suits your style of photography perfectly mate :-)

Found the video hard to watch. For me, photography is meant to be a calm and reflective activity. I didn’t like the music with heavy drum beat throughout. Aside from that, the subject matter is interesting.

I'm sorry you didn't like my choice of audio Paul, I try to vary it where possible but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference I guess. Thank you for watching and commenting.
