Bowe is lying. He made the same claim back in 2004 and was promptly sued by Newman, forcing him to retract the statement and publicly apologise. A lot of boxers claim to have been robbed and used by their management and promoters but it isn't always true. A lot of times the boxers themselves stiff the promoters and managers for money too - the press just doesn't write about it.

Also You can be behind in taxes for 4 yrs before the IRS and fed confront you. Most these promoters& managers are lawyers too.they can prolong it. By the time you realize it, ur 10-15 years behind in taxes. Because you never personally filed thrm. You lose it all.. That how they did fighters, that's how A lot are ,or , is, broken. Newman was in boxing years before Bowe and several years afterwards. He also taught in schools, worked in radio and sold cars. Bowe bought homes for every one of his siblings as well as his mother (and gave each a monthly allowance on top of that). I'm not holding brief for Newman but I believe Bowe blew his money and threw his career away by not staying focused.

Lack of education doesn't help + most of these people are still relatively young men by the time their careers start winding down. A lot of knowledge comes with age but these guys' careers are usually over by the time they begin to gain that knowledge.
