I chatted with this guy out side UpDown in uptown Minneapolis - super nice guy and shared a lot of insight into the morale of the department and the challenges they face daily. Stand up guy.
Imagine having the title as a Law Enforcement Officer and essentially doing the work of a Historian tasked with documenting crimes after they occur. It's no wonder that crime continued to increase dramatically when the entire force is understaffed.
Nah, the animals are the low life scum who live off government assistance, and riot, loot, and commit arson when they don't get their way. You can thank the Democratic Party and major American corporate news outlets for promoting a culture of victimhood for votes and ratings.
@@juandoe2994 You mean they’re responding to crime understaffed which makes police response time longer. Which leads to more crime and a worse city. But you’re too dense to get that
Proper policing and good people should be supported all the way. Just because there are few bad apples can't cut the whole tree down. That's dangerous job!
The whole point is that the "good apples" aren't allowing the bad ones to be taken off the tree inherently making them all bad. Cut the tree down. Damn. Yank it from its roots!
@@boochi7087 well it's a good thing most people in Minneapolis(including myself) disagree with what you think and voted against abolishing the police. What's your solution to fixing sky high crime in the twin cities Einstein?
Policing will never be perfect for the same reason that EVERY institution will always be marred by a certain sizeable degree of error and incompetence; because the simple fact is that in an extremely complex modern society such as ours, the number of "great men" who can really interact effectively within such complexity (i.e. smart people who can weight all factors and respond effectively in real time, talented people, exceptionally virtuous people) are always going to be rare, and most people will be a mixture of competence and incompetence. Are there systemic problems that can be fixed within policing? absolutely, but people should understand that a "fixed" police system will not be the utopia they hope for: we should NEVER expect that there will ZERO racist cops who shoot black kids, just like we should never expect there will be ZERO pedophile priests. The sooner people accept that, the better
Actually if the bad apples are coming from the same tree then Hell Yes cut that nasty ass tree down and plant a new one Why do you think that you can pick a better apple from the same nasty ass tree that was producing the bad apples
WCCO, Frey, Waltz, Omar, Kamala, Brandon, etc spent all last year supporting criminals and admonishing police. Now they generate profit from making videos showing off what they helped create.
Their plan is to build the narrative that now that we’ve gotten ridden of the cops, the next step is to get rid of guns. Then we’ll all be safe. They want you to believe it’s a gun problem not a crime or gang problem.
And you can literally do whatever u want now you it’s rare to see a cop in the neighborhood now and that’s all throughout the north side Wild West for real now
Police don’t prevent crime unless you want to have our country under an authoritarian lockdown like in China because you would have to have an officer on every corner for them to deter crime as long as police can enforce our courts adding more funding to police budgets won’t stop crime
As good as workplace racism has over the past 20+ years, and I am speaking from experience. If you don't give people a chance they will take whatever they can get, and this opinion is based on observation. Don't get me wrong, the gangs need to be taken off the street. In addition to committing crime they are corrupting young people who would otherwise turn out good. We need a better camera system so that if a crime is committed the perps can be traced throughout the city. We need a system in place so that it is next to impossible to get away with a crime. Even without cameras we should be able to cross reference cell phone and car computer locations to crime scenes. Then we need detectives who can get honest evidence on who the gang members are, and laws that will give them first booking into prisons, and sentences long enough so that when they get out they can do no harm. These are the people we should be building prisons for. Regarding the reduced headcount, this is a problem the former police union head and bad cops like Chavin brought upon the police department. Chavin had 18 complaints brought against him before he was filmed doing what he did on a regular basis (abusing his power). Give good cops a hefty raise based on how well they work within the community. Give new cops a higher starting pay. I have no problem paying more in taxes to cover this. Cops with numerous complaints should be let go. I will close this section of with, get rid of city council members (in November) who have posed no solutions to the problems faced. These are people who have ignored the above and the increased homelessness problem, while at the same time are efficient as can be when it comes to serving the business community. If the problem is not stopped now, Minneapolis will resemble Chicago in another 10 years and Detroit shortly after that.
@@jeremyjackson7429 If you need to insult to make a point you have no point. Jeremy time to grow up and start thinking/acting like an adult. I am sorry, but I block anyone who uses insult over logic. Bye
@@ndotlthere is a few problems with your suggestions, if you want to lock up all the gang members that corrupt the youth...what about all the youthful gang members? Majority are under 18, so? And since it really is all a symptom of system making, would lock them all up be a fair just answer? Also that's already been pushed far since the 90's so not really working! Can you really blame someone 100% for caring a gun if they live were people are shooting all the time so they believe if they don't have one they will die, is them caring on them or on society for allowing it to get so bad? If gangs hassle youth and they join one to not go at it alone, do you want to lock them up for that? More cameras every where with the ability to follow everything might sound good, but to many...not so much, and you'd want to put them in the poorest most high crime neighborhood first, how's that going to look? Lots of mistrust for good reason....on all sides really, it's messed up and more complicated! As for the city helping business and not homeless (I'm not for city council mayor or against really) lots of business been on city with violence some have left more probably will. Yes it might seem unfair and suck but you need business and the money the city gets from them to get by, just saying. I'm not trying to smash your ideas I really think it's great that your thinking just saying a lot to consider!
It's so easy to blame lack of police, lack of support from politicians etc, yes those are problems. But it gets so tiring that if a officer was involved with a shooting of some thug, everyone saw everything, have marches, rallies, looting, destroy businesses, but when recently, a gang member was freed for killing a young boy bcuz no one would cooperate with the investigation, total silence. Fear of retaliation? From who? The police? Council members? Nope, from your community. The community helped create this mess after years and years of"I didn't see anything" and the thugs know that. Instead of having the "Stop the violence" marches, start small and show people that you care about the area. If everyone just picked up one piece of trash a day, it would send a message that you care. So go ahead and get your stuffed animals, balloons and candles whenever someone gets killed and go home and talk about how the violence needs to stop and blame everyone else, but yourselves. Tired of "demanding change", tired of "I was only pulled over for having expired tags and broken taillights bcuz I'm black", ummm, maybe you were pulled over bcuz it's a violation. Quit demanding change from everyone else but you yourselves are not willing to change. Change starts with yourself.
It feels like Police officers are holding the City hostage. They just quit as soon as the public asked for accountability. The police unions are fighting a propaganda war.
@@mohamedali9495 not at all, why shouldn't they quit? So you would be happy at your job if everyone assumed that you were corrupt, dishonest and a total failure at what you do? Just ask yourself, "why do we need police officers?". Is it because everyone is a law abiding citizen? Are there dishonest police? Probably. But there is also dishonest and POS white people, black, Asian, Hispanic and the list goes on. People who want to disband the police think that everything is going to be nice and respectful. Good luck with that.
@@sjr100 I would do better by working with the community that I'm serving. Law enforcement is a difficult job but it is way more difficult when the public doesn't trust you. Police officers are being selfish by just quitting when things have become tough. They should stick it out and try to understand the public's point of view. They have difficulty with Black communities because they don't want to understand things from their point of view. All police officers like to act like they are policing the suburbs. The first police department was to police slaves who were public property. You have lived with Black people for 400 years and you still don't understand them. Learn your history and your job will get easier. Try to understand why Black communities are the way they are.
@@mohamedali9495 just go and let every black person know that you said that they have a different point of view from everyone else. That's right, they all think the same. You'll get slammed from the black race for insinuating that. So according to you, Kamala Harris, Lil Nas, Michael Jordan, and an elementary school teacher all have the same point of view when it comes to the police. Or do you want to admit that it is certain aspects of the community that all think alike
It’s a waste to begin with. North west mpls is starting to look like philly. There is no law there just do whatever you want cause criminals are invincible or hero’s.
Gang members are different then other criminals so it doesn't really matter. If they find an enemy they'll shoot at them regardless of where they are or at what time.
Don't get me wrong, I recently met some phenomenal officers, patient, caring, understanding and ready to protect and serve, the rest need to learn from others
It's amazing how this area goes from shady to full out shit hole. I drove truck local 42 years and actually live North. I rarely go between my place and downtown. That's smart! Stay safe is all a guy can do I don't blame you.
I'm right there with you on this one. I left Minnesota altogether last year. The Twin Cities are going to collapse under their own weight and sadly it is self-inflicted.
When an arrest is made the police are doing their job. Did I hear correctly that there are only two officers on patrol in the 4th precinct at night? or was that only two from his specialty unit? The police get the bums rap many times, what about the failure of the rest of the process? ie repeat offenders
You really think any of this has to do with any 'Amendment" ?? These clowns could care less about laws, constitutions, referendums, or basic civility. They are interested in ONE thing......their illegal money, and protecting same.
I need to zero my deer rifle with all the shootings going on in North Minneapolis I'll go on the train tracks and zero my rifle there no one would bat and eye. Lol
@@gregorybiever8801 I live in Brooklyn Center so I'm real close to all this smooth brain nonsense. I'll say for the record I have a lot better guns better suited for self-defense than my deer rifle. Anyway I'm moving up north next year to get away from this hoodlum bullshit.
Funny you should say that! About 300 cops quit, retired, or took extended disability leave over the past 2 years. 4 1/2% of the policing budget was shifted to community programs for housing/violence prevention/etc. last December. Not quite defunded! This definitely seems like more of a staffing issue to me.
The catch-and-release program is working out as well as expected. Imagine arresting someone at the beginning of your shift, only to have them released by the end of it. And they wonder why they can't find officers to fill positions. 🤡💩
North Minneapolis was not like that til the early 90s. Hardly anyone who lives in Minneapolis grew up in north Minneapolis. They come from other out of state cities to ruin our childhood memories
I moved out of Minneapolis in 1993 i never went back.. They planted a tree across the street at a school for a little boy that had been shot sitting in a car with his mom. Then gang members though it was a different person.. Murderapolis is what it was called when i moved my family to my rez.. I am native..
Wow.....who knew defunding police would result in higher crime rates??? Gee.....I hope all you democrats aren't planning on leaving your lovely city. All your wishes are coming true! Vote democrat this day in age, this is what you get. Plain and simple. You have yourselves to thank.
@@lauras9943 ...doesn't matter - the city is a sewer and it wants to be that way thanks to the votes of people like you. So keep it up and stay in your city, I'm sure you're all so proud of it. High crime, high taxes...gee, all the things you lib-tards love. Oh and riots, ya gotta love those...I know you all do.
Your "education level" is the law. Every police officer in minnesota has a two year degree in law enforcement, or a four year degree in criminal justice. That's the law. If you aren't willing to go to college, you can't be a cop.
Just wait till they get defunded and the vigilantes move in to start wiping out the criminals, it'll be great it'll be like open season just come on over and get year gangbanger tag
@@aidanluhmann3028 not sure why they can’t put food in the table, there are plenty of jobs to go around, the job market is better then it has been in the last 10 years. Not sure what that has to with crime, witch in this city according to the report is higher then it has been In the last 10 years, this is also the least amount of cops that the city has had in the last 10 years. Coincidence… I think not
Nothing against this guy at all fight the fight I guess. The fact for me remains MPD should continue its resignation. A bit give a life to that city. The people have voted and made it clear the city they want. And they’ve got it. Everything from the judges, DA’s, city counsel and mayor why would any cop stay. Hearing a zone went from 10 cars to 2 is good to hear. The men and women in blue deserve more and can jump shit and get it
All these are lack of love to one another, these are side effects of limiting love others due to different colors, different background, remember we all have to live together sooner or later it will spread to different area we all have to deal with it so start planting love without boundaries 🙏🏻
no we dont, smart people are leaving the cities, to get away from the violent minorities and the corrupt dfl politicians, who in their right minds would want to live there?
The "community"is outraged..lol..weren't these the same protesters that wanted to DEFUND the police? Raise your kids right..have a stable environment..be a good role model...when your kid gets in trouble..harsh consequences. Hopefully all these bangers take each other out.
The large suburban driven by the officer is offensive to those suffering from climate change and also seems a bit too intimidating to be used as a standard police cruiser. I’ve always thought a smaller volkswagon or Prius would be far more appropriate for building community relations and reducing the amount of mistrust. Artisanal policing is what we need. A holistic non violent approach would work wonders in our city.
Well that sounds nice, when we were termed "Muderapolis" they increased gang arrests and violence went down. Interesting that FBI statics show gangs rely on social media to argue and meet for what turns in to violent behavior . What a world.
