Hey Louie. Just wanted to tell you that I’ve been watching your videos for the last couple of weeks. I love the straightforward approach you have. That you break down complex sounding patterns and concepts into approachable exercises to try. I am learning so much, particularly from the hand/foot combo exercises and the vocabulary building lessons. Just wanted to extend my gratitude for sharing so much of your knowledge to demystify the instrument for me and allow me to enjoy drumming to the fullest extent. I look forward to subscribing on your site as a member, in the very near future.

Can't believe I just stumbled across your videos today, easily one of the best player/teachers on RU-vid! I would love to know what snare and ride cymbal you are using. The ride sounds so musical without being super "jazzy" sounding, like it would fit any music so well. Thanks!

Thanks! The ride was an Artisan 22" Medium and the snare is just a standard Yamaha Hybrid Maple!

Great tip about not involving the wrist on the ride cymbal and just using fingers (4:30). That was something I didn't even realize I was doing that. This helped

You can bounce 3 notes very easily and comfortably which allows you say for example to play up tempo jazz tunes for extended periods.

I've been playing drums for quite some time. Now that I've got an actual drum set have been taking online jazz lessons. I'm still not understanding when to start in with the light snare rolls and then the louder hits .Can you explain this? thanks

Loved this lesson!! Nice finger control, having that rolls so smooth.Amazing!! I was wondering, should I practice the same thing on my left hand? Because I see you playing traditional grip... By the way, I've always wanted to learn traditional grip but I kind of stumble over it, would you mind to explain the technique on the fulcrum and bouncing motion of the traditional grip?
@louiepalmerdrums
@louiepalmerdrums 8 лет назад
+Josh Liao (しなさい) Thanks! Left hand finger technique is little different for traditional grip. There are some in depth lesson videos in the members area at my teaching site, playbetterdrums.com
