You are soo right. My daughter is born 2005. Sure, she listens to the modern s**t, but she does recognise real music. The other day they played Toto’s ”Rock maker” on the radio: Dad, it’s real music on the radio, turn it up!”. The young generation isn’t stupid…
And he didn’t look at either hand for most of the solo, which tells me he played ALOT. Very few guitarists never look at their feet hands, and one that comes to mind is Stevie. That says a whole lot.
Exactly! Terry Kath was one of the ultimate best guitarists in history! Christopher Cross holds his own here, but underplays himself on the record's mix! I would've love this tune even more with the harder edge him on his Telecaster LOUDER!
I knew. I had the album. What surprised me is he had several other guitarists play solos on the album & I never understood why since he was great on his own. I can only guess he was trying to concentrate on the songwriting & arrangements for his debut so he let others jump in. P.S. He once played for Deep Purple in a San Antonio concert when Ritchie Blackmore was ill. Knowing that fact its a wonder he didn't rock out harder starting out.
It’s like your whole body has just been vibed out, you can’t help having a shuffle then you take a look and go….ok….ok…man’s got soul…and I ride like the wind with him every time I hear this song.
Interesting factoid: Stevie Ray's iconic guitar was actually owned first by Christopher Cross. He traded it in to an Austin guitar shop for a Les Paul and Stevie bought the Strat. The more you know...
Is that a Houston Oilers jersey? Ah man, this song is such a ride back to a MUCH better time in America. I think that anyone watchin' here who was alive then would agree.
Unemployment was over 10 percent, mortgage were about 18 percent, crime was way up. It’s kind of strange how we romanticize the past. The only thing that was truly great was the music and we were young.
Seeing Christopher Cross play that killer lead guitar work here, with that jersey on, reminded me of the late great Terry Kath! He wore jerseys while he was playing live on tour, up until his untimely death, in January of 1978.
He was very popular for a couple years, then kind of disappeared and didn't hear anything from him. Thought he was a piano player, had no idea he is a multi instrumentalist. Really like his music.
I mainly remember "sailing" and seeing him singing I've always thought of him as a singer songwriter that played acoustic. Never knew he could rip like this
Unassuming appearance, Smooth high tenor voice that is very unique, combined with the ability to shred a guitar solo: you hit the nail on the head with the Vince Gill comparison
1980, I was starting my junior year in high school when this song was big. I could wait to move on and "Ride Like The Wind." Now I wish I could go back and be that junior in high school, and know then what I know now. I'm guilty of wishing my life away. Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I think all of us who were there feel the exact same way. Joe Walsh said the 70s will go down in history like the roaring 20s. He’s so right American was between wars both decades, both decades had their own underground culture of substances the 20s had prohibition and the 70s had archaic marijuana laws both largely ignored by the population until the government stepped in and only the privileged got away with it. The two decades are so similar. Joe was or is a genius for him to say I really understood what he meant. The music will never be better in the history of mankind!
This channel is a complete jackpot of some of the best 70s live performances. I'll be driving my GF nuts crankin it through my vintage Carver stereo rig blastin Cerwin Vega D9's!
Major props for wearing an Earl Campbell jersey on top of the performance! Growing up a steeler fan, Earl was still one of my favorite players in the late 70s early 80s. Love this song too…yacht rock at its best.
He has 4 songs in which ,one liners are commonly used for ads etc, absolute genius, the young people of this world need to be introduced to him and all the other 80s era ,i do my best by sharing to family, but the youth of today have no idea
I remember when this exploded. I recall hearing that Chris's career took a hit after he went on tour. Doesn't matter now, the songs awesome are timeless
Can I just say that is one of the best live bands you will ever see, everyone knows their part and no matter what you think of Christopher Cross his band was always a well oiled machine.
@@Leon_von_Sehnsucht I just mean that some people might not care for his type of music, honestly I'm not a huge fan of the adult contemporary genre, but unlike 99% of those artists Cross can actually play an instrument proficiently, his singing is phenomenal, and he can write. Today your lucky to find an artist that can do 1 of these things subpar, so its a breath of fresh air to see a tight live band like this.
As someone who wasn’t alive in the 70s I assumed Christopher Cross was some yacht rock hack. I never in a million years would have thought that guy who wrote “Arthur’s Theme” would legit guitar chops. I wish I could play as good as him.
1 is not "yacht rock" but west coast AOR 2 ALL Musicians that play this music are amazing Musicians ( Toto..Eagles...America...Doobie Brothers...Steely Dan....Thundercat...Vulfpeck...State Cows etc..)
Stopped listening to this months ago, but not after Rick Beato did a video about this song. Great thing I watched that video after listening to this song. Appreciate him much more now
I can't thank The Midnight Special enough for this channel and videos. We've been waiting a long time. I only have one request, can you consider adding more information about the performance? Like the date, and who were some of the performers in the band? That would be outstanding!!!
It was awesome being a young teen and making sure to stay awake for this program every week. There were times when I woke up to the final act or credits. Great stuff.
Christopher Cross WAS a band. Chris Geppert was the front but took the name as his own. In this performance which IS live taped for television band as follows. The first four are the original band members the other 2 are aux members added after the record came out. Christopher (Geppert) Cross- Guitar, Lead Vocal Tommy Taylor (me) - Drums, Backing Vocal Andy Salmon - Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals Rob Meurer - Keyboards, Backing Vocals James Fenner - Percussion Hank Hehmsoth - Auxiliary Keyboards
@@TommyTaylorOfficial Thank you very much Mr. Taylor for the info. You really put the groove in that song man. I remember dancing to it with my gf when in my early teens at a junior high school dance. Great memories. Thanks again.
The Midnight Special, Soundstage and Kirshner's Rock Concert...three of the best shows ever! When 'MUSIC' was still music, and the last of actual BANDS that played their instruments.
I can remember when this album came out, I was living 90 miles from the border and on several occasions we were traveling at triple digits to different destinations jamming on this song. long time ago. not drug related.
Oh baby... This really takes me back... 🎼🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎵 What an amazing time, to be a human on Earth. ....Taco's, Darrell Abbott, unbelievable tech, riding Huffy's over a homemade 6" jump ramp, Bohemian Rhapsody, Elon Musk, sliced bread, Betty White... and the best thing of all... Doggo's! That's a pretty cool era. Change my mind.... gigglezz... 💜❣️💜❣️💜
