The old sanctuary when I went there. They moved to the new one in late 1994. The old sanctuary was so cold when there weren’t many people in it, but they kept the A/C running high so the choir wouldn’t burn up from all the lights.
Awesome song....I remember most of these faces! Yes Jan Reedy hasn't aged lol. Carlton Gilmer could & still can make that piano talk!! Love these BIG/Soulful songs to chalet318!! God Bless our church!! RaeAnn Pool
RaeAnn Pool Carlton Gilmer is now pastoring a church in Bossier City, married to a younger woman, and a bunch of elementary school aged kids. For the past decade or so, I believe, but I left Sleazeport 23 years ago, per Air Force PCS’ing. Poor guy, I saw what he lived in. He made a speech around 1993 on TV back when the church was televised about almost divorcing, but even 1993-1996 when I attended the church, his marriage didn’t look great. His older looking blonde-haired wife did not look like a particularly nice or friendly person, but he had a cute teenage daughter that looked like her that I think had a crush on me. Too bad I was shy and never approached her.
The church was so relevant and real life for 1990’s Shreveport, a very backward city full of racism and fundamentalist Christianity, but this church was an oasis apart from that even though most of its congregation were very settled middle-class people that have lived there most of their lives.
Kalyndia (Poland) Opbroek at 2:41 on the right. She introduced me to this Church and Denny Duron years ago. I would live the sheet music for this music. I've lost touch with so many people I knew there. This song will always have a special place in my heart.
I went to this church from 1993-1996, invited by a charming young lady that lived in the same dorms as me on Barksdale AFB. Switched from Independent Baptist; and they were not happy! If this church did not believe in loss of salvation and speaking in tongues, it would have been perfect! It was a 15 mile commute to the church, but I loved it! Denny Duron was always a fine preacher. And I just found out his father, the original pastor passed away not too long ago. My oldest son was a friend and playmate of their youngest in the nursery
Honest Abe how so? At what point does it happen? What sin or how many sins does it happen? Did Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross not pay it in full? If that’s the case, then Catholicism is true and you have to work your way to heaven! Believing you can lose your salvation IS working your way to heaven!
hmm, i can't recall if my mother was in the choir at this point yet, but this certainly brings back good memories. And yes, jim o' brock was mine and my friend's favorite part of the music to watch....especially.....gah....my memory is going to have the best of me here...i just remember him always flipping his sticks mid song. haha
Cindy Baker some young lady named Lisa Angelico in the Air Force in 1992-1993 that was in the choir invited me to the church and I went there regularly until I left in 1996 being transferred out with the Air Force. I’ve kept up over the years all the changes that’s happened there and realized how human people really are.
2:10, I remember that man in the top center. Kevin was his name. I didn’t come to the church until spring of 1993 and he was in the singles group then.
None Taken! We did a lot of Sandra Crouch from back in that time also - LOVED IT! The Air was electrified with Joy ! I also took just as much pleasure listening to the musicians (Our drummer's fills!!) as I did sining!. Thanks for the compliment.
How much has changed since then! Rodney Duron now deceased, the piano player Carlton Gilmer now pastoring a church in Bossier City, and for a really dark side, the head football coach of Evangel Academy Dennis Dunn making out with a teenage girl, but his spiritual guilt never let him go any further and he resigned.
This church was and probably today an oasis in Shreveport. A backward southern city full of racism and fundamentalist Christianity that had a pastor preaching it real and relevant.
