We travelled these lines in the late 50's as a family. My dad was a mining engineer and ran the concentrator for Cerro Mining Corp at Cerro de Pasco, well beyond Ticlio, at 14K feet. The town just past this high point is called Morococha. Beyond this point is Cerro de Pasco and also the coal mining site of Gollarisguisga. Life is tough for young gringo families living at these altitudes.
I've "traveled" all four videos and the journey is just crazy amazing. Beautiful, thrilling, and in some ways beyond my comprehension. Thank you for these videos. Truly remarkable.
WOW ! I watched all 4 videos , and I am very happy to see this lovely country . Very courajous they are ! Nobody imagine behind that high mountains hide such surprising things ! Lovely country . Thank you so much . Love from Brazil .
What wonderful videos. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and at such high altitude. In my state of health I wouldn't last five minutes up there but it's so wonderful to see it all. Thank you for giving us all the privilege.
Thank you, Im glad that you enjoyed the videos. Just walking at those altitudes for me was tiring, I don't know how the guys who maintain this railroad do it.
Hello from Pittsburgh, PA. I have viewed thousands of train videos but your series on this line has to top my list as the most spectacular and breathtaking I have ever had the pleasure to watch. It is amazing that those old diesels can operate at those high altitudes! Thank you so much for allowing the RU-vid train viewers around the world to be a part of great adventure.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video series, ! It was an amazing experience to ride this line and happy to share it with everyone on youtube. Indeed it is amazing that the C39-8s which everyone wrote off as junk in the US have had such an amazing second career.
Thanks for your marvelous video. I enjoyed each and every moment.so incredible and breathtaking. Our Indian Himalayan road and train journey are equally marvelous.
I could watch the whole series and I’m stocked. I’ve been there crossing the Andes by car but never by train. What an amazing experience and thank you very much!!
Hard to admire the scenery if your job is to watch the road while driving. Also railway lines tend to travel through less disturbed landscapes compared to highways.
Thanks for the great video! I climb mountains and to go there by train is amazing and unthinkable. There is no way in Japan to reach such a rugged and beautiful place by train. Thank you! I have watched it many times.
Fantastic series. They must have dug those tunnels by hand, it would be near impossible to bring bulldozing equipment up there at that altitude, It is an engineering achievement.
Thank You for Your brilliant 4 Part Videos-- VERY different to Driving Trains in Western Australia--we are flat compared to THIS--. ALL HONOUR TO THE SURVEYORS AND WORKMEN THAT BUILT THIS MASTERPIECE OF ENGINEERING! I assume You--The Locomotive Crew and the Diesel Locomotive--all had a little bit of difficulty--finding some OXYGEN---at the Peak.
What a fantastic rail journey the most enjoyable rail video have ever watched . and what incredible engineering to construct such a line. Many thanks to all involved in the filming and video production this is one in a lifetime experience.
Galera tunnel is such a creepy, but fascinating, ride. 25:50 Seeing the two red signal lights appear up ahead makes it look like a red-eyed monster was waiting to block the train.
@Showdown. True that a lot of money was used to build the rail line. But it was a necessity to connect from the capital of Lima and the rest of the Peruvian coast to the Andies Mountains towns/communities to help strengthen the transportation structure of Peru.
Error: At 19:38 - 19:42 the on-screen caption says "Lower Casalpaca Switchback KM155 Altitude 4154m" - this is incorrect. At this point the line is skirting Lake Tiktiqucha, at an altitude (according to Googlemaps Terrain View) of 4700m. I think the caption somehow got misplaced.
I think over a period of time people living and working there get acclimatised to thin air. ( infact Low Oxygen). Their body physiology changes to adjust to surroundings.
Am a fan of dangerous travelling train series but this vdo series I keep seeing so so many times..most spectacular n enjoyable series..feel as if am almost there in the engine cab wth u..superb work..it's a pleasure watching these vdo parts..each one makes u want to see the other parts..most dangerous railway n 2 nd highest travelling railway in the world..but beautifully captured in a camera..just superb exciting n breath catching scenes which makes even the watcher catch his breath as the train climbs world's most dangerous heights in twists n turns..amazing experience sir.. Make more of there series will enjoy watching them too..
The most amazing train ride I have seen up too now. Made even more spectacular by looking at it on my 86-inch 4K tv. The end was ruined by someone who kept refocusing the camera.
There’s a tunnel here in Wisconsin on the Sparta-Elroy bicycle trail (which is a converted railroad line) that is 3/4 of a mile long! You have to dismount your bike and walk it through and the only way that you can see where you’re going is with a flashlight! I did that both ways! It seemed to take forever to get to the other end and daylight! (I did it when I was still in high school in the early ‘90’s)
After getting off the train we rode with the track crew back to the other end in a rail motor car with no lights, it was darker than any night inside there with no lights, exactly how you described.
Why was that awesome valley after the 165 marker cut out so soon? It happens again at 16:18! Is this a safe video for people scared of heights? It was getting really awesome looking down into the river valley coming up on what looks like a remarkable scene and then it fades into a gentle slope for some reason.....
It is the legendary peruvian central railway, the fantasy of all trains lovers. It reaches and altitude of almost 4800 meters from sea level in just 170 km. It used to have a regular passenger service, now is basically a mining railway.
Great scenic views throughout the 4 video series! Several times I saw a couple dudes on the locomotive's catwalk, out in front...since they had cameras that must have been you guys...pretty spectacular 'front-row seats'. Also, I noticed every ore car had a tarp covering the load, was that just to keep the rain off? Or was security also an issue with product 'disappearing' in the night?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video! Yes that was me and a friend on the front porch, we were having the time of our lives! I believe the tarps are for theft, they sometimes have security riding the rear of loaded trains.
Hi. Let me explain: the canvas on top of the wagons is to prevent the minerals from falling down the sides, due to the vibration of the machine, and causing an accident. Greetings from Peru. :)
Sou do Brasil. 😀
Boa sorte.
Wow friends. Really Really enjoyed the ride. Hats off the the people of this railroad. Can't imagine the engineering and work it took to build it. Incredible! And to the men of today who maintain it, you know that a lot of us envy you. Must be one of the greatest views on the job in the entire world. Hello and Thank You from Malta, Texas. P.S. What is the structure on top of the mountain on the left at the end of the ride? And what was the load you were pulling?
Thank you so much for the interesting videos. I do have a couple of questions: I noticed guys in coveralls along the line in different places. What is their purpose and how did they get there? Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Without a time marker not sure which guys exactly but the railway employs lots of track walkers to maintain and spot defects. They get there by a track inspection vehicle and then walk when needed.
