Incredible scenery!!! Loved the trees, the bushes. the fall colors Gorgeous!!! Kept your headlight on all the time!! so had lights in the tiniest of tunnels! Enjoyed that!! A spectacular ride!!!!
In most of the world, railway locomotives always have their headlights on, day and night. Some places (for example, New Zealand) they also run with the ditch lights on as well.
Wow you guys have to spread the word about Greek railways, this is the second hidden gem I have stumbled upon! Not all tourists love the treeless seasides , many are mountain people too.
This train seems like from the dreams, I think this journey seems like a dream, fast and shaky, cool, like I am the train driver/engineer and when it is over I wake up.
Wow! never knew Greece was that nice and green! On all of the holiday advertissements here in Switzerland, Greece is nothing else than a horribly boring dusty hot dry pile of stones with some white houses by the blue aegean sea, nothing green, nothing to see, nothing to do at all.... I'm sorry for being so wrong with you Greece! this looks green, mountaines, normal temperatues, interesting and beautiful! no I'm no fan of beach holidays longer than 2 Days where everybody goes, that's just boring! I want to see the backside where no tourists normally go also! thank you for showing this beautifull part of your country i never knew existed!
@Arch Stanton Take a look Arch. All these are in western Greece. Not islands www.google.com/search?q=%CF%80%CE%AC%CF%81%CE%B3%CE%B1+%CF%80%CE%B1%CF%81%CE%B1%CE%BB%CE%AF%CE%B5%CF%82&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwib1qW_hf3jAhVcUhUIHYKQDtwQsAR6BAgJEAE&biw=1920&bih=937
Amazing topography. I was very surprised to see the line snaking around the mountain edges at what was apparently a pretty big heights with virtually no safety rail along the edge of the roadbed. A train that derails at speed there is going very far down.
If you are nervous, stay clear. The scenery is stunning, the narrow gauge tracks overgrown on the sides by trees is just the beginning of this highly sensory experience. For me, imagining being on the train and not watching it on video while lying on my bed at home, for me the speed and cacophony of horrible sounds as driver and conductor shout at each other over a heinous sound system were not to be re-experienced. 1500 -2000’ below this narrow ledge with it’s myriad of tunnels lies the verdant valley floor decked with olive trees. Clinging to the rocky mountain at overt speeds, you anticipate fallen boulders sending us into the void only to smash into smithereens. Flying out of tunnel mouths the train is immediately faced with numerous chasmic crossing bridges..My shattered senses are seeking peace and stillness.
It's normal gauge actually. I kind of liked the cab sounds from the engine, the brakes, the bark of the wireless, the groaning of the driver's seat springs... It makes you feel like you're in there. The only problem for me is that it is quite shaky, reminding you it's a camera view. Human eyes compensate very well for rhythmic motions and we don't realise how shaky it is sometimes.
This route was part of the south-north main rail line of Greece for 110 years. Millions of people have passed through it over the years, hundrends every day. I must have passed through it a couple dozen times myself.
Crikey! Those drops give the Swiss a run for their money. It's interesting: I live in the Mediterranean too (Malta) but the foliage and the landscape are very different. For one thing, we don't get autumn colours: it's more like a mild, wet winter and hot, dry summer climate. Not much in terms of spring or autumn.
@@kotsaris87 I was aware that it's mountainous, and that you can ski there - not something you usually associate with Greece. It's just that we're more or less in the same neck of the woods (I'm originally from the Netherlands, by the way), but yet the landscape is so radically different. But on the other hand, Malta is extremely densely populated, so you don't get to see much of the landscape anyway.
Why is it that in all the train videos I have watched in Europe including this one there are never any wild animals crossing the tracks? And you never see any dead animals next to the tracks. Here in the USA we have thousands of animals crossing the tracks especially at night, deer, coyote, bear, racoon, fox, wild hogs, elk, moose, and lot more . Great video and amazing scenery btw.
Fantastic line hope it can be saved ??? Make it a world heritage site, like Settle and Carlisle line in the UK, Tourist Line, people would pay serious money to ride this line, perhaps with dining , Pullman and observation carriages plus Steam trains......

@@Ptolemy336VV Expresses go on new line through mountain range rather than over it. The old track is still there and I believe it is used by a small number of local trains, though I have not been able to confirm that; it needs a local to confirm.
This was a great 🚆 ride, I tell you the tunnel was a long trip through. How long was that tunnel it looked like it was never ending? The others views were stunning. Thank you for the trip.
This part of the line was part of the main south-north railway line of Greece, connecting Athens to Thessaloniki. It started working in 1908. Since 2018 this part of the network is bypassed by a new double electrified high-speed line going through a different route, which is serviced by the IC trains, and this part is serviced by regional trains only. The terrain in mainland Greece is quite mountainous and there are significant parts of the railway network passing over and through mountains.
Wow👌man I really like this ride so amazing what'is city name and where is going to train and what is name train last Stiontion sotp IAM going and I visit full Ride
Unfortunately, this path no longer exists. A new high-speed line has been built on the lower lever. Last station is "Lianokladi" and the direction is From Athens to Thessaloniki
@@hikerlarrypackgoaterrobins8575 the line is still kept, there are meant to be some local trains running from Lianokladi to Athens running thru this very route in order to pick up and drop off people who live on the path of the railway, but looking at the current Hellenic Train website, it shows that there are no service. so either it was not worth the money to keep it and they decided to permanently terminate passenger services, or the accident earlier this March caused service reductions and ended up with some lines using replacement buses.
@@NikosKantiris What is going on with this line now? I hope it doesn't get abandoned and OSE is planning to run at least tourist/regional trains on it.
Most of the time a red signal means another train is coming on the track, and he would have to wait on the first side track he came to, for it to pass...Were no side tracks!!
@@duanewilliams7353 You have obviously no idea about tunnel safety so why do you comment? He was talking about marked escape routes in case of emergencies when passengers have to leave the train.
This was built in 1908. I guess nobody bothered to add lighting since. The problem is of course that a lot of those tunnels do not have a road to service them that high in the mountains.
