It's time for E-bkies and PEVs to get higher speed limits. Encouraging people to be smart about personal transportation is what the future is all about.
It's a culture clash that's preventing their potential. Bike paths could potentially be very effective commuter methods for people who don't need a car, but boomers who want to go 6 mph on a bike think anything over 15 mph is too fast, and that all those miles should only be for recreational use
EUCs are starting to hit 50mph, and escooters are hitting 70mph. There really is no reason why ebikes shouldn't be hitting ~100mph by now. Being able to take them on highways would be nice.
@@Andorski eh. A 100 lb vehicle is pretty sketchy above 50 mph. They make sense topping out between 35 and 50 mph, and cities should allow them on low speed roads and bike paths (bike paths limited to 35 mph during commuting hours and 25 during the weekend and non commuting hours)
Looks like a great bike! Pretty good top speed for cruising and I totally agree that we have bigger concerns with people flying down the road in their cars on their phones than a person cruising and much more likely focusing while on their e bike.
Very well said about the inconsistencies in determining what is safe and what isn't . Most accidents are caused by cars while being driven by distracted or drunk drivers. When you are on a fast moving bike, you pay attention!
@Black Flag You need to do some research based on this subject because what you say makes no sense. You initially stated that this particular bike is “probably” illegal in the US. That makes you seem unsure yourself. Each state has there own laws and regulations concerning e-bikes. 3 classifications to fall under. This particular bike fits those classifications as shipped. Class 2. Please clarify again how you think it is “probably” illegal in the US.
@Black Flag I have no affiliation to any company and I have no agenda. I simply want you to explain based off your observation that you made, why it’s illegal. You said there are 3 things that you saw and 1 that would ban it in the US. List those 3 things
Yes, thanks for doing the pedal test instead of just blowing it off like everyone else is doing. I was wondering whether it is geared high or low; no one else said. To me, a low gear would’ve made more sense; at least it could reasonably be limped home if we run out of juice. Gear it for 5 mph. Good job too on pointing out legal aspects. Too many people getting these and going 35 mph on bike paths is going to make eventual law enforcement unpleasant for ALL of us. They’ll have to be registered as scooters,(not even just mopeds) licensed, taxed through stickers, etc.
I'm at around 280lbs, and Super73's weight limits go to around 300lbs. That's cutting it a little close for me. This bike is exciting because it says the weight limit is 400lbs! Do you have any friends who are heavier who could try out the bike, and examine if their weight seems to greatly affect the speed/performance? That would be awesome
One of the better looking eMopeds. I wish they would have put the controller where the battery is and the battery where the controller is to keep the weight low. I wonder if someone will ever design a moped like this that is decent to pedal?! As always, good review, good video.
I don't know where these 15 and 20 mph top range have come from. From my first bike a 3 speed gazelle I could cruise at 25 and down hills over 35. A French racer gets you up around 48 mph. (They don't do good with curbs) my old mountain bike which I set up as a road bike got to the mid thirties. When I first got my ride1up 700xr I hacked the controls and hit 38 on the flats but it used too much juice. Downhill I've hit 48 mph but the bike really wants to stand up and go straight at speed. I'm happy with the bike.
I’m beyond safe and keep my head on a swivel while riding. I’ve gotten harassed and almost ran over at least 5 times in the last year of my owning my first e bike. We aren’t the problem. People in cars and trucks are.
Nice E-bike. I notice that there's enough room in that frame to put a small 2-cycle engine to take over when the battery runs out of juice. Some enterprising mechanic should do that and see how it works.
Micah you did a great review for this bike. I think I'd like to have this bike and the extreme bull k6 in my garage. Those would be my two bike options I think for now. Great coverage of safety and tips and watching for others and being responsible. Berri No-ICE.
I own two S2s (one for wife), I love them to death, but they're honestly not worth the price. The REVV1 is definitely my bike if I hadn't bought my ebikes already.
Any chance for an extended seat for 2 riders? This checks every box except that one. Glad I watched your review as you mentioned the additional battery that another review did not. Another 52v 20ah battery or maybe even an aftermarket larger battery, you could get one custom made to fit the space
The bike does fit 2 riders already, they are coming out with an add on for the bike for passenger pegs, it already has the mount on the bike right next to the kickstand
@@mr.nobltches2668 yeah I emailed them and they showed a picture holding 2 adults. I hope the pegs they offer are the flip up variety. Do you think the front wheel can have pegs too? Might be easier to ride with a passenger if I can prop my long legs up past the pedals
Great review! Just discovered your channel and subbed 🤙 One question I was the battery location; How much does it affect the center of gravity being high up there? As opposed to some other manufacturers that have it mounted lower? Thanks and keep up the great work!
@@darkmanx2g you doubt it? They can jump right on and test it l, don't try to be sly, just get a motorcycle license and register the bike, plates and stuff then its good
Just saw the review and you stated about the 2nd battery. Do you think the company will offer the 2nd battery and installation or do you as a buyer have to install it?
So Ride1Up gave this bike a TWIST GRIP throttle but thumb on all their other bikes. Can a person switch out the stock thumb throttle and purchase their twist grip as a plug and play replacement?
@@Electrek For 40+ years, anything ive ridden powered and two wheels has had a twist grip throttle. I wont buy a thumb throttled bike, in spite. The funny thing, people put a ziptie over the twist grip. Coo coo for cocoa puffs people.
Wonder if its generic passwords or proprietary to the bikes serial number? Generic will leak out to people fast. Proprietary forces you to call the company hehe.
I got curious and checked the Hyper Scrambler Two and it's almost $1,000 cheaper than what it was a couple of months ago, I hope that's not a bad sign cuz I really like these full suspension e-bikes, especially the ones with the longer-range. I love my current Ariel Rider Grizzly and it was at the time I bought it the best option for that kind of e-bike, but this Revv1 thing in particular could be giving it a run for its money especially with the battery expansion thing and I love to see it, strong competition, strong industry.
@@rockinbox9121 I'd like to know that too, if I had to guess it'd be cuz of the all wheel drive option (cuz it got two motors) for things like going uphill, that said Revv1 having such similar speed and still a lil cheaper even after buying an extra battery to match the dual batteries of the Grizzly makes it a dope alternative IMO, my guess is it depends on how much you'd be down for that extra motor on the Grizzly cuz no lie it's definitely helped me in certain areas.
@@last7509 The Grizzly will be better at hill climbing, that’s about it. Maybe some extra range if you’re easy on the throttle. It also costs $900 more, right. Ariel’s fenders are useless. This has better tires than the Ariels do, at least for the street, and maybe off-road too. (Bigger lugs)
cool motorcycle styled e moped ! not exactly as good looking as super73 but specs over style! 90Nm is good but you probably need all of it to tackle steep hills with a single speed an very long gearing. plus nothing feels as lame as an ebike that goes very fast on the flatbut completely bogs down on hills. except if you live in Florida or Netherlands of course. Micah, if I had one thing to say about your reviews, it's the lack of climb tests. I can't decide myself between a fast e moped like this, a 4000 metacycle , and building a fast bike I know I should get the 3 but is an expensive hobby!
Any thought on this versus Ariel Rider x class? I like the super73 zx but no rear suspension, no lights, I'm sadly crossing that one off my list, I think.
How does a 750w motor go 36mph? That sounds like hell on the hardware. Also a little odd that they decided to lock it as a class 2 750w when the bike's 52amp battery is positioned for class 3 power. Regulations I guess. I shouldn't complain though, because the design's amazing. That's a really incredible pricepoint too, I'm really impressed with this bike
Yea that is odd as I got one of their core 5s... and that's 750w, class 3. One of their more stealth bikes. Tho they likely program the controller before shipping to insure the max speed is in check with local regulations. Which is strange because class 3 ebikes are legal in Florida (unless specific towns are different) but who knows.
Not that I’m aware of. The seat shape of the Juiced Scorpion makes it half decent at pedaling, but I’ve yet to find a fast moped style ebike that pedals as good as a conventional style ebike.
it would be nice to see more e moped /motorcycles fill the gap between powerful ebikes and 125cc or more equivalent e motorcycles like metacycle or zero. something with power similar to unrestricted 2 stroke mopeds/scooters we used to have with around 5hp/50moh. without 50cc regulation it could even be in 5kW/8hp territory that gives goid acceleration to go with traffic or even get in front, but not necessarily highway speeds, like 50 mph like a sur Ron power train in a lightweight road motorcycle with mirrors, blinkers, etc and plates for registration depending where you live. highway speeds requires adequate superior braking, stability, tires, etc whereas just getting better acceleration on a 50mph motor is more like a safety feature to blend in traffic and it's nowhere large displacement motorcycle where handling the power and keeping speed in check can be challenging. here in Maryland moped law is a joke though with 30mph/1.5hp
does pedalling increases the top speed ? even if the gearing allows a decent cadence, I guess at 37mph with far tires, human power doesn't make a big difference unless you are a powerful cyclist
Micah, can you help us understand what is really going on with the components of this ebike? Ride1Up's spec sheet says they are using a 28 amp controller. 52v @ 28amps on a Bafang G60 motor does not equal 37 MPH real world speed on flat ground with any other ebike on the market. They seem to be using the stock Bafang G60 cast wheelset that has been out for a few years and its capabilities are well understood by Grin Tech and others. What gives? Are they using a super high RPM motor winding on their G60 and fibbing about the amperage of their controller? I don't understand how a 20 inch Bafang G60 wheelset hits 37mph with 52v on flat ground otherwise. Especially on a heavy bike with poor aerodynamics as you pointed out in this video.
Probably playing catch me if you can with regulators. The federal and state DOT have better things to do than test e-bikes that weigh 80 lbs to make sure they aren't cheating regulations. There is also a $2000 barrier to entry on these things, so it isn't like it would be easy for dumb kids to buy, only dumb adults (and most dumb adults will buy real motorcycles instead since they aren't limited to 35 mph)
I like the dual battery option. 37mph is pretty dang good for a small bike like scooter whatever this thing technically is. But those pedals are seriously ridiculous 😂
I wonder if the 2nd battery will be flipped upside down on the bottom where those panels are...I'd love to use the cage and the 2nd battery instead of one at a time.
it's the controller box. looks way too big for peak 1500W though. grin technology makes phase runner V6 with 90v/90A =8.1kW peak and 4kW nominal that takes a very small fraction of that space.
I bet at top speed 36mph if controller is spitting out close to it's 1500W peak power it's about 40minutes of runtime so about 24miles. or more likely 20 minutes near too speed, then progressively slowing down
@@jeremycline9542 as Micah said even if it has long gearing so you might be able to keep up with the cadence, you'd need a lot of power to make a difference at 36mph, the motor is probably already maxed out or already starting to lose power, and with the large seat, short cranks, doesn't seem like a great option anyway. there's also probably not a lot you can do to increase speed. 36mph for a 750W bafang on 20in wheels is already a lot! 52V means not a lot of higher voltage battery options, so even a custom more powerful controller would probably give little top speed gains
I don't understand why they don't just offer a kit that lets you unlock it and give you a set of DOT turn signals and a certificate of origin as a moped. This seems pretty similar in capability to an old Tomos 50cc, it looks like outside of the turn signals being too close together it wouldn't be much to make it legal as such
Its because of the legacy moped laws that require plates and registration -- I had a moped license and a titled moped at 15 -- 40 years ago. It was specifically a "gas" vehicle. So these new electric class 2 and 3 bikes don't need a MC endorsement, registration, plates or insurance. And they can be really cheap because they don't need to be road certified. So they want to keep the bikes cheap and not have to deal with any state DOTs. Its one reason there just aren't that many electric motorcycles that can be plated and ridden on highways.
Everyone bashing on this bike because of invisible and made up laws by your paranoid viewer base. YOU CAN RIDE AN ELECTRIC BIKE, ANYWHERE YOU CAN RIDE A NORMAL BIKE. OBVIOUSLY DONT GO 30 MPH WHEN OTHER BICYCLES ARE GOING 8, it's called going with the flow of traffic. Which yes guys believe it or not ebikes can go as slow as 1 mph. Gasp!
I've never been pulled over by a fucking cop on any bike I've ever ridden. I have at least 100k miles on a bike...so don't get your panties in a bunch🤓
