I've always been a bit of a Tom Mix fan. It's awesome seeing a movie made almost 100 years ago.

Excellent upload of a wonderful film, thanks! Tom Mix and Wyatt Earp were friends and Earp hung around the studio while Mix was making movies.

I have never seen a Tom Mix movie. If this is the type of action western he did, them I will be hoping to see more of his filmography on YT. This was very entertaining. And for an old silent the print was very good.

It's amazing that most of this film was shot on actual location and not on some sound stage, as was usual for early films

Crazy facts: I’m from his hometown area. Tom mix career dipped with the advent of sound…as in voice. Many of his later voice films had his voice dubbed. A talented stuntsman and rider…he was an amazing horse handler. he did 100s of films…spent all of his money…had multiple wives whom had reported posthumously that he rarely was intimate with them, although fathering some children…he claimed voice damage from “a bullet to his throat “ but the truth was different. he had a lisp and a very feminine side when not on camera or in front of crowds. His popularity shifted as his career aged, especially in light of his voice. He went AWOL. Never rode with Theodore’s rough riders. He stood out as a skilled horseman and expert shot, winning national riding and roping contests all over and no one can ever contest his talent! Rumors of him having a native sidekick or Mexican sidekick were just that, rumors. Rumors in his home area was that he was not fond of women but history and facts point to someone that loved women and played hard when it came to his western acting and riding, which may have been his true dedication. He was a cool cat! There as also a rumor that following his death, John Wayne travelled to his hometown unannounced to offer help to mix’s close and distant family whom had lived through some hard times. He assisted them financially in thanks for Tom getting him into the acting scene.

Interesting. I have heard his speaking voice and it is masculine. So, I disagree on that point.
@theringer2283
@theringer2283 4 месяца назад
@@Skedawg88 he was a talented rider and he sure didn’t learn those skills in this area. He was also a good actor and actors and people in general have the ability to change their voices for occasions. I believe his voice was similar to hitlers for instance. Adolt’s voice was not fantastic at all but he had the ability for voice inflection for speeches and he was reserved at other times in talking a great deal (insert goebbles (sp?)). Mix’s may have been similar. Put him in a crowd meeting event with lots of people and you’re forced to talk without a script or off the cuff and you may notice it at that time.

My Grandfather was a kid in 1920's Alabama and he loved Tom Mix. I guess many boys and men of the early 1900's did ! Tom Mix was a Hollywood cowboy, friend to Wyaat Earp and also fought in the 1898 Spanish-American war. Thanks for showing this film. I read NOT many of his films still survive.
@theringer2283
@theringer2283 Год назад
He didn’t fight. He went AWOL and got married…in which case…based on the multiple marriages…he may have gone to war a couple times.

This story was re-filmed at a later date under the name of "Santa Fe". It's a slightly different version of the same story, but main theory, and concept of the story remains the same. The reversion is a talky movie.

Tom Mix was an amazing actor. Tom was born January 6, 1880 died October 12 1940 in a construction accident of the highway. He couldn't stop in time, swerved twice a large suitcase type of bag came swelling at him hitting him killing him. He was only 60 years old.That suitcase contained money and travelers checks. Many fans and movie stars went to his funeral. In this movie he wa 45 years old

Well, that was the first Tom Mix I've ever watched. ( Maybe not his best feature. ..but what a convoluted story !) I noticed the villain ,The Judge was played by Warner Oland...for many years later he was Charlie Chan. Cheers from Australia

Holy cow! It sure was Warner Orland! Good catch. Funny, I was thinking the very same thing with the very same word. Convoluted. But I absolutely enjoyed it!! ❤️~~Sharon

The pretty little girl on Tom Mix's back when they are climbing the rock face towards the end of this film was Dawn O'Day, later better known as Anne Shirley - 1919-1993. She was "Ann Grayle" in RKOs "Murder, My Sweet" (1944), her final film. Do you think there were any safety precautions used in that scene?

I am searching for the movie based on the book - Riders of the Spanish mountains, by Zane Grey. As a kid I've read that book and loved it ( think the main character's name is Laramie Nelson, or something like that ). Thanks in advance for your help.
