This was such a great game

Used to play RR games to death. Completed RR, RRR, Rage Racer, Ridge Racer Type 4. Rage Racer was my favourite by far, especially with the car customisation and those 4 devil cars you could win. Smashed a few controllers trying to win those!

Omggg I loved this game when I was younger! Just hear the intro brought back memories!! Nostalgia! Thanks to Namco and their creators for this Awesome games!!

I recently got Rage Racer for the PS1 along with a few other racing games like Looney Tune Racing. Anyways, I've always been curious about the Ridge Racer series. After playing Rage Racer, I thought that it was very cool. The only thing I don't like about Rage Racer is that if you crash into a car from the back, you bump the car up. I lost many times because of that. Other than that, I like it... and will be on the look out for the other games in the Ridge Racer series.

RR1 & Revolution's handling model was deeper and required more mastery to do well. R4 is the best overall, yes -- it has more content and the handling changes aren't really for the worse. And, R4 is pretty, even to this day. Much easier though. Mind you, Revolution still has its charms, with it's palette that embraces a lack of realism, its wacky and gabber-like hardcore techno soundtrack, and completely unrealistic handling that improved over RR1's [no more gearing down after long drifts!].

The announcer reminds me of Claptrap from borderlands. 😂😂

hi i know about ridge racer been playing this game for over a decade but ridge racer type 4 and you will see its better than the ps 2 version and even ps 3 version.try it!

BTW, Rage Racer is the third game in the PS1, but not overall RR3, the third game of the series was this one.

Besides, Rave Racer, Type 4 and V, were deeper games, they lacked a storyline, but the "story" mode beneath the championships was interesting enough, particularly on Type 4, with the interaction of the player with the racing team directors, something not seen frequently, and even in an arcade game. All three games had darker colours because of the more realistic mood, but had even advanced graphics, and I use Type 4 as an example, it was the first PS1 game to use gouraud shading.

ridge racer 1 and revolution looks alot more fun than rage racer, type 4 and v. cause ridge racer 1 n revolution is more colorful making the whole experienc like sunshine and fun. rage racer aka 3 is too dark. i remember i rented type 4 and i love the intro but i dont really rememba th gamplay but i do kno its not colorful like 1 and revolution wen ps1 jus cam out i got a demo disc that has ridge racer 1 on it n i was liking it! play several time. was gnna buy it but never did. ps1 laser broke

I'd dare to disagree. RR1 and Revolution were more like experiences with the PS1 hardware, and simple games to oust the whole Daytona USA trend that SEGA began right after Virtua Racer back in 1994. They are fun, yeah, but not solid games. And Revolution was an excuse, since both Ridge Racer 2 and Rave Racer, from the arcades, couldn't be ported to the PS1 as its Arcade System hardware was more advanced than the boards found inside the PS1.
