There wasn't a single time playing this game back in the day that I didn't just sit for like a half an hour just listening to the soundtrack before actually playing the game
I just found about the soundtrack a few days ago. I cannot get enough of Lucid Rhythms by Tetsukazu Nakanishi . Fucking amazing, never thought I'd find that here (I don't know anything about Ridge Racer).
Never played this game before, just the first Ridge Racer on an arcade cabinet. Found some of these songs on a "relaxing PS1 music" playlist. Holy shit this soundtrack is fucking amazing.
I remember my mom playing this game with me, i was like 4 years old maybe 5 and she completed the game with all the cars, sadly the disc didnt load the game anymore now im 21, last time i saw my mom playing a game was gran turismo 6 with me hahaha
Most racers from the PSX era haven't aged all that well, but this game is more genius than most of today's offerings. Amazing music, track design, and controls, ESPECIALLY when using the NeGcon! I swear, that is the absolute best for racing games, and I hope Namco releases it again someday for modern systems.
Music awesome. Childhood experience - awesome. Car control - even back then I felt is sluggish and weird (Even though it was my first racer game and first ever game on a PS1 :) ) I really disliked the difference between the two type of break/steering of the cars.
In terms of the handling of the cars, this is probably least favourite of mine in the RR series. But still a great game. For me, the best part of this game was realising what the REAL goal is : collecting all the car variants, for every manufacturer and team combination, once you've beaten the grand prix.
Agree. This game for me is a part of my childhood. And the graphics in this game blew me away. Especially the replay with that smearing filter. It looked like real life back in the days.
I was born in 1995 and my brother in 1979. I remember being a kid and playing r4 with him, i would always pick the grey/blue car because of the intro! Jesus, the nostalgy. Thank you so much for uploading memories from my childhood
The first playstation game I ever had. Core sound track of my childhood, together with tekken 3's and Ace Combat 3's, were really ruling my mind and have given great inspiration and direction. Loving the micro variety of genres, loving the technological vision and the spirit..... I am eternally grateful to the 90's-00's Japan audio-video arcade production ..... they knew it .... THANK YOU NAMCO!
Can't stop loving this soundtrack, listening to it once in a while makes me realize time can be stopped, go backwards, and drift those curves once again.
The soundtrack is amazing but the level of aesthetic detail in the menu screens / interstitial screens were also incredible. The only game that compares is Wipeout 2097.
I have been listening this soundtrack for more than 25 years. Masterpiece! Melbourne today just announced the sixth snap lockdown for 7 days. I would like to go out for a ride after it finishes.
Somehow found this OST from the AI intro remaster. Helped me through a rough time, fixing a timing belt on an old 92 Toyota for the first time so I could move back home, this OST helped me do it. Blasted this when I was less than an hour from home after a 3 day drive.
Not at all!!! Cherish your memories and be thankful to have them. You can even play the game again! I'm replaying the Megaman X saga (while my kids are sleeping...) and I've had a blast :)
Dude YES… especially that little middle section where it slows down, that part stabs me in the chest with a knife of nostalgia! Takes me back to being 6years old..
Not a big gamer, but of all the games I have ever played, Ridge Racer 4 for the PS1 is by leaps & bounds my most favourite of all-time. Both the game itself & most def. the soundtrack, as well.
The Terrazi Utopia It was only yellow if you got it for Team Mappy, it was black with Solvalou, I believe white (correction: teal) with Dig Racing, but if you got it with PRC you got its true, blue/white racing livery Just like how the Age Solo Ecureuil got it's white wings with Team Mappy, the Assoluto Vulcano got the red/white stripe livery if it was with Solvalou, and the Lizard Crinale became the Devil 13 car with DRT
Every single track in this soundtrack is amazing but Pearl Blue Soul will forever be the theme of my childhood. It's always the first song that is played in the grand prix (I have never changed this in the over 15 years i've been playing), marking the beginning of a new race and for me, the beginning of my love for gaming as a whole.
Ah 2001, the time when my uncle bought a PS2. At the time, he took me and my cousins to our then local GameXrazy ( Hollywood video store's version of GameStop ). While there, one of the employees offered my uncle Ridge Racer Type 4 & Mega Man X5 . Before gaining access to the internet nor game magazines, I had zero knowledge on what games were recommended. My uncle wasn't a gamer, and so he assumed my cousins and I would enjoy these classics. Out of the ordinary, I was the only one who enjoyed the PS1 titles. As my cousins were into next gen, I tested both PS1 titles. The first one I booted was Ridge Racer Type 4. Seeing the first intro cutscene, and hearing "Urban Fragments" just mesmerized my mind. I couldn't tell if this was a PS2 game, just seeing that epic intro sequence. Immediately, this was where my quality taste of video games started.
I remember playing the living shit out of this game back around 2000+/- and it was amazing. I noticed that the music was nice back then but I was 10-odd years old and didn't pay it any further attention but looking back this soundtrack was one of the staples of this game. Which actually made it really replayable. It wasn't for the dialogue for sure.
I never knowed about this game, i just played AC3 and i like so much the OST, i see some people commenting about that Namco maked good ost with AC3 and Ridge Racer T4. I just have nothing to do, when come the idea to play this game and i liked a lot, theses ost so pure good. Man i love Japaneses games in PS1 era, theses guys is a genius in every aspect but when the topic is ost, theses guys are gods, they are so much creativity and ahead of our time.
What happen to companies game soundtracks used to be so memorable, this, zelda, revolt, sonic, Megaman so many classic tunes you just don’t hear in games anymore.
I probably listen to it a few times a week now. It's just absolutely amazing. There is one track which is just filled with glitch and breakcore goodness but in a way that does not affect the listeners like they would be by listening to Aphex Twin, for example.
This album is actually insane. He literally said f*** video games I'm making a real f****** album That's going to be actually legendary and is for one of the funnest f****** racing games
