I would love to do any job the Queen would assign to me. I love to work and jobs are very scarce right now. I admire her for continuing the traditions of the monarchy while also introducing a touch of modern/technology.
I think she employs people because it is tradition and most of them can then say they worked for her . One of my relatives was a lady in waiting for queen victoria, she obviously was proud to be able to say so or we would know nothing about it.
Agreed, though there is a purpose to every job listed and not all receive financial compensation. Regardless of how one feels about the job in question, working for the Queen always looks good on one's resume. Here in America I have a friend who used to work on the staff at Buckingham Palace and now works at an upscale hotel in Florida. Just the mere mention of Buckingham Palace got him instantly hired at the hotel. They didn't even bother with an interview. They saw his resume and called him up and asked when he could start. They even gave him a choice between three different positions. He is now in charge of making sure the dining room staff treat all guests as royalty and he knows exactly how royalty like to be treated. he also happens to earn about twice what he was getting paid at Buckingham Palace which of course is often the reason people take jobs there in the first place. I would take a job as brass knob polish inspector there if it meant I could put on my resume that I worked at Buckingham palace and I'd do it for minimum wage.
@@nunyabiznez6381 I know, its just an honor to have such an experience.😎😊And a good experience story, my fam had many such as well. Although, I would love to see if some things are true or lay eyes on some very important historical items. After reading Norma Goodrich and solomons ship and on joseph of Aremethia's bloodline with grail castle and isle of Mann's which the queen has exclusive control over, and Anne Catherine Emmrich's life of christ and her life mentioning joseph of Armenthia.
As an American, I find the entire “right to royalty by birth” just plain silly. The rites and ceremonies are designed to separate the royals from the subjects. Harry gets that very clearly.

The royal philatelist might seem silly to some but the royal stamp collection is the largest and most valuable stamp collection in the world and is worth north of $100 million and requires a lot of attention to detail. It is equivalent to a head curator of a major museum and should actually be a full time job with a large staff. My modest stamp collection requires as much attention as this gentleman devotes to the royal stamp collection and that is actually fairly typical of any serious philatelist.
This is a year ago. But I’m so curious, what is there to do once the stamp is put into its little sleeve or book? What kind of constant attention does it require.
Master of the horse is a very important job! Everytime they go out on horseback, or in the carriages, they have to have horses that can be trusted amongst crowds of millions of people who will just walk on and "do their job". Not an easy task!
@@theresabraddock9310 Yeah, you try running the greatest kingdom in the world, at that age, with uncomfortable shoes. Also, that is not all her job is. Get a grip.
Most of these are honorary positions for the leading and most distinguished UK person in their profession. They usually hold a senior full time position and these roles come with it. The Queen gets up way before 9.00am. The bagpiper is playing for entire staff and for the tourists, not to wake the Queen.
The bagpiper is also a traditional form of reveille in the days before serious alarm clocks. Even now the military still uses bugle calls and farmers might have had a rooster (and still do).
One other. A great uncle of mine was Apothecary to The Household. I believe that this wasn't purely an honorary role, and that he was actually a member of the royal household's medical staff, but the title, which still exists, sounds strange to modern ears
These jobs have been with the English royal household and families for 100's of years steeped history and tradition, not only the royal families but some of the people who do these jobs have gone into them because for 100's of years their families have also served the royal family, they're not ridiculous.
I hope that the collection is located in a Royal Gallery that is open to the public, since the whole justification for allowing the monarchy to continue to possess such treasures is the expectation that the Crown can be trusted to hold culturally and historically important items in trust on behalf of the British people as well as the whole of the human race. Can any Londoners reading this shed any light on whether they can go somewhere to view and learn about the Queen's pictures?
She doesn’t do anything ridiculous. She not only drove trucks in WWII bet she was a mechanic as well. She has done some really cool things. She basically has a full time job being the Queen and has for all of her life. She deserves a little pampering. But, since I’m American, it’s not for me to say, but I like her.
Her role is important. I think that was evident when she was able to calm and reassure an entire nation by just a few well chosen words over the Covid-19 issue.
Your entitled to your opinion regardless of where your from, it's nice to hear positive things being said about our monarch, she truly is an amazing lady, it's a pity Princess Anne isnt next in line, Prince Charles is a fool
Even this rather silly video explains that most of the somewhat archaic posts are "honorary" or ceremonial" which means that those who receive payment receive a "stipend"c which is probably that same amount as it was four or five hundred years ago - i.e. a piffling amount, but the honour of the post recognises their skills in those areas. It is easy for many to confuse "the Queen" (a person) with "The Crown" (a post) monarchs come and go, as they are human, but the crown is a continuous tradition and as such is where all ceremonial things and places are "owned" (The Queen doesn't "own the crowns, or most of the palaces, and other premises. The wearing in of shoes may sound ridiculous to some, but our ageing HRH attends many functions where she is obliged to walk or stand, and she merely ensures that she is able to meet the requirements. All in all the Queen (now aged 94) still works to serve the UK and commonwealth, and when inheriting the crown from her poor father in 1952 pledged to serve the people for life. Frankly, she has never put a foot wrong, Long live the Queen!"
Well said indeed. After all, Her Royal Majesty has more time in active service in war time than many other Heads of State. Her parents were aghast at her volunteering during World War II. Her husband, sons and grandsons have all served as well, and not just in ceremonial roles.
Ridiculous … she’s a human being like the rest of us simply born into immense privilege and public funded wealth (and a certain amount of power.) Anachronistic beyond belief and must be abolished.
Completely agree. Many of these jobs are totally demeaning. Imagine being that piper who has to play outside her window, to wake her up in the morning, and having to play different tunes every day because her majesty, in her insufferable arrogance, doesn't like to hear the same tune every time. I can't believe what total shameless, lickspittles some people are.
It is almost suggested that HM The Queen has a massive Household and is extravagent. What is barely mentioned is that all these positions are Historical and honorary and, if they receive any payment, it is usually a 'peppercorn' amount - in other words, very small.
Well said, the vast majority of these positions are historical and are honorary. Those holding the positions often provide their incredible experience and service at virtuality no cost, i.e. it an honour to serve and is the definition of Commonwealth.
You think that for an honorary job, the royals would be willing to give an honorary pay, they certainly have enough spare change in their couches for it. Who knows how well they actually treat their staff.
The pay is absolute crap, but you get to live in a prime Central London location on a total shoestring and the credentials for future employment are something else. People who used to work at Buckingham Palace carry great prestige and the likes of Arab gazillionaires will pay you very well.
The royal court in Thailand have even more bizarre staffers to perform odd jobs: The man responsible for fanning the king with his gold gilded fans. The staff responsible for shading the King with his royal umbrella at all times outdoor (even night time) The man responsible for showing the King his walking path even though it is obvious from carpet layout. The staffs handling candles and lantern for the king at religious ceremony. To name a few.
Well there is an opening for a candle handler next time MM and s invited to anything the Royals are having he is up since she does the most to be seen it will be a big job
Some of this shit is ridiculous. She got a woman to wear her shoes. I understand having a driver or having security guards but id say its odd to have a kid hold her dress. Maybe I'm just a pessant and dont understand.
These are all simply modern jobs, with ancient titles. It's just traditional, whereas the trend now is to go for more important sounding job descriptions. For example an old fashioned 'Bullshitter' might be described as 'A documentary maker'.
The job of taking care of the clocks is an honerable job. I was in the US Navy for 20 years and one job I did as an extra duty was to call the time number on telephone. Set a old fashion watch to the correct time and go into the Commanding Officers office and set the wall clock to the correct time. I did time before he came into work. With all the duties of Queen Elizabeth office she would need the correct time available to her staff and herself.
I have 24 clocks in my houses there’s only 8 rooms 5 of them were made by me and my bro. Also we have a bus much of watches and paintings worth a lot around the house

While I assume that if the Queen instructed her Chief of Staff to make changes to anything mentioned in this posting, it would be done. That said, I doubt that she cares one way or the other for much of this traditional stuff. She inherited almost all of it, actually "owns" almost NONE of it... and will pass all of it on to her successor. It's the British people who want it and fund it. Don't blame Elizabeth II.
@@300books Oh, I understand she inherited several estates and other property and businesses, and certainly she's a long way from destitute. My point is that much of the "theatre" surrounding royalty - the gold carriages, the palaces (Buckingham and Windsor among them), the Crown jewels, vast art collections, the state banquets, etc., are NOT owned by her but by the British people. The queen, I understand, lives rather frugally when she's allowed to. I've heard her state that she rarely wears jewellery unless it's required as part of some costume. She's worth far more to the British people than she costs them.
@@antisimanticath : The queen personally owns Balmoral Castle, Sandringham House, and Marlborough House, all worth millions and millions. However, she does NOT own Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle. According to Business Insider, the queen's private assets are a least $600 Millions. Her private stamp collection alone is worth $130 Millions and not owned by the British people, but by her privately. All this can be verified.

Joyce Randall Junior members of the Royal Family work for a living in some business or other. The late Princess Margaret's son is a furniture designer and cabinet maker. Senior members of the Royal Family have various formal duties to carry out depending on their status. The most senior member, next to the Queen is Prince Charles, he, as heir to the throne is now deputising for the Queen in many of the 'out-and-about' duties. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also represent the Queen, visiting various parts of the country or abroad. There can often be several 'representation' visits in one day. These duties would have been shared by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had they done what was expected of them and stayed in the UK.
Just visit the official website of the Royal Family and you will understand what they do. And definitely check before you ever leave for a trip to London as you may be able to see them in person while there! They work tirelessly for their country and their is usually one or more out and about working on any given day in London. Fun to see them in action!

The queen costs the British tax payer 80,000,000 million pounds a year, which is a lot, but she generates 1.5 billion pounds in economic revenue through tourism and other industries. You were saying?
I’m pretty sure the queen’s astronomer is paid in pounds sterling and not dollars as pounds sterling is, in fact, the currency here in the UK. who knew? Well I thought everyone did but clearly not.
I'm American and I thought that odd, as well. My guess is that these channels pander to Americans because so many of us are fascinated by the English royal family. They believe their viewership is mostly American so they use American terms. I'd very much rather it be announced in pounds than dollars.
Why?...the royals palaces and castles attract a lot of tourists each year, without the royals we would just be another boring republic...its not like the royals run the country anymore anyway.
Guess I'm a Royalist. I do not find any of these "ridiculous". The majority are honorary, and bound up with tradition. As an historian it pleases me that traditions are upheld. They are what makes a country different. What a bland world it would be if everywhere was the same. The other jobs are actually important. Maintaining the royal collections is important because of their historic significance. Would someone say that a person doing the same job in a museum is also ridiculous? The royal collections do not belong to the Queen, but to the Crown, and, therefore, ultimately to the country. It is not popular today to be a monarchist. It needs pointing out that the "I don't see why I should pay...blah, blah" is actually based on incorrect information. The monarchy handed over the largest source of their income to the state. Out of the money raised by the Duchy of Lancaster, the monarch receives funding. The amount given to the monarch is less than the money raised by the Duchy, so the state is actually in profit from this arrangement.
You make it sound like the Master of the Stables almost does nothing. He runs the stables! He doesn't just do inspections and dress up for state occasions. Sure he's got people under him who do a lot of the heavy lifting but HM has a tonne of horses in multiple places. If you've ever run a farm that's mostly horses, you'll realize it isn't easy at all. Plus all the paperwork and maintaining thoroughbreds. It's not a ridiculous job at all. In fact, a lot of the jobs you listed are not ridiculous at all.
The Horses could to be more polite as the Queen and the bishop of Canterbury were leaving the royal stables one day after a tour a big stallion let go a real rattler and the smell was almost unbearable, the Queen turned to the Bishop and apologized the bishop said no worries your majesty, I thought it was the horse anyway.
comcastjohn Many of these positions are honorary ones, in other words unpaid. Those in the position are highly likely to have paid careers elsewhere. The astronomer royal for example. The watermen are likely to be sourced from other roles as a reward for long / loyal service- they are probably only called upon to act as watermen once every few years.

I would never work for the royals, I could never do all that begging and scraping the ridiculous wealth, especially when their staff are paid sooo poorly because they should look at it as a privilege. Yeah not for me.
The people in ceremonial posts do so in addition to their "normal" roles in life. Many come from a background of service that has no reliance on the money paid by the Queen or the Crown. One would do well to remember, also, that in the First and Second World Wars, it was the British Upper Classes that suffered the greatest percentage of losses, not the "common folk". It was these loses that led to the establishment of the National Trust to preserve the Great Houses, as the death duties on the estates of the nobles literally bankrupted some families and left other families with no hope of maintaining their Estates at all.
It's not begging and scraping when you care for the comfort of others, considering the demands of her position these people bring relief to her, they are in service as we are to our own family members especially our children, I don't feel inferior seeing to their needs and comfort, I love it and hope you do too. ❤️
