To celebrate the last day of the school year (as a teacher), I decided to switch things up and try a completely new spot! While I wasn't familiar with the lake, I knew that this body of water contained various fish species I had targeted before. In utilizing previously proven tactics, I managed to make this new spot work for me!

Thanks, living in the Northeast, having freshwater as an option is KEY to making fishing a full year activity (unless you're rich, and can afford to live somewhere else)!

@@FishinAccomplished Yea that's very true, I actually like the northeast fishery better than south Florida. There's more migratory patterns here so its more exciting/challenging. Don't get me wrong it would be nice to travel south and fish warmer climates during our winters but yea maybe during retirement, haha

Awesome Video, looks like a great day! Can you offer some advice? This is my first season on the finger lakes with a kayak, had decent success jigging up Lakers, but lead core trolling has not worked yet. How do you know how deep to troll? I hear people saying so many differing views.....I never would have thought Lakers would be at 50ft in June. I just feel like I'm putting the hours in but cannot get the troll to work.
@FishinAccomplished
@FishinAccomplished 3 года назад
Yeah, trolling can be incredibly unforgiving! Generally, I let the fish be my feedback on trolling depth! If targeting Browns/Rainbows/Salmon - I try to work the middle/upper water column... Additionally, I try to troll a depth where schools of bait are present. On top of that, I like to start shallower, and if nothing hits after a reasonable amount of time, drop down a few feet... Obviously, it can be tedious, but if there are feeding fish around, I will hook up with something! It obviously also helps if you have at least 2 rods going, at different depths - that way you can troubleshoot which depths are best to target!

I've caught many slobs on that exact lake in that same area doing basically the same trolling with cranks

Yeah, it seems like a pretty productive tactic to get into some solid fish! I'm hoping to stop by that spot again this June or July!

What lake??
@donnyconny3523

Looks like south end of Canadaugua. Not sure why people can't say what lake they are one. There are zillions of spots on each lake so it's not like you are burning a spot. But just knowing which lake would be nice. Not ragging on you just saying. I understand your just trying to do the right thing.

Awesome video! Any tips for trolling from kayak? Headed up to Keuka on Saturday and typically just smallmouth fish but I’d like to catch my first lake trout. I’m shocked how deep those crank baits are going but must be the lead core line. I have an Old Town 120PDL.

There’s a number of strategies that could work… if you’re jigging, and you have a fish finder, you’re really looking for marks and schools of bait, which this time of year are generally in 40+ feet of water. I’ve never fished keuka, but I bet if you found either of those things and either vertically jigged or slowly retrieved a swim shad through them, you’d eventually get some action!

unfortunately the sawbellies are gone from keuka for a decade now. but this also means lakers are going up into shallow water (40ft or so vs 90+ when they hunted sawbellies) to chase perch and other small fry.

Brother if you're going to be doing catch and release fishing, especially in pristine lakes like hemlock and canadice, use a rubber net so you don't have that problem. Don't even bring the fish into the kayak.
@gshok71

Is this hemlock or canadice lake?
@jeffh4505
@jeffh4505 10 месяцев назад
Can't be Hemlock or Canadice. You can see houses on the lake in the video, and neither Hemlock nor Canadice allow houses. It kind of looks like the south end of Canandaigua.

Canandagigua. He definitely was told about white rock. My old stomping grounds. I searched this because even though living in Alaska, I miss that place!

Your intentions are good, For another 20 seconds out of the water no one cares how long it was. Trout are not hardy fish, just keep the beat up ones for dinner.
