The 5 Miles of Hell trail located in southern Utah has long been known as one of the toughest and most challenging trails an off-road motorcyclist can hope to take on. Completing this trail on a modern dirt bike is a chore in it's own, but how about taking an old $500 dirt bike through the gauntlet that is 5 Miles of Hell? Well, in our 5MOH $500 Motorcycle Challenge we do exactly that. In this video, we follow on-board with Justin as he navigates his vintage 1981 Yamaha DT175 through the beautiful yet grueling sandstone formations on 5 Miles of Hell.

Hey, just spotted this video, nice job! Have to admit that I just so happen to have purchased a '78 DT-175 that isn't running very well. There's a chance that the carb may not be original but even so, is there any chance that you could tell me what the jetting is on your bike? Thank you.

This series literally got me back into bikes. I binged the whole mini series. Had an old xl250 when I was younger. After finishing the series I went out and got a cr250r trail modded it and started riding with a few buddies. Haven't found another series like this. The terrain you ride is the gnarliest fun riding I've seen. Hope for some more videos and series like this! P.S. I started ordering from you guys at Rocky for all my parts, and cannot believe how fast they get here. (NB Canada) over a week faster then the parts I ordered from one province over the same day!!

i love the vintage bikes, watching 5 miles of hell series is what got me into bikes specifically the vintage bikes, I would love to get one but im an atv guy at heart and would love a vintage bike like wes' yz125 or even the dt, an rm125 or 250 would also be cool but finding parts is just not easy

This was the main reason I was so interested in this series! The old YZ was a treat to watch as well. We just brought a 1975 Suzuki TS185 back from the dead! She runs like a champ. We finished the bike for a grand total of $478 xP Nothing like the bottom end of an old "3 stroke" ;] Hahah.

Awesome! Good job giving it a 2nd life! I have a 1974 TC185 I am fixing up as well. The TC is basically the same as your TS but has a hi and low transmission and E-start. Sure it weighs about 50lbs more than the TS, but it is sweet! - Justin

This was my first of many dirt bikes, same color even. I would push it 3 miles all the way to the local MX track and back home again after a day of riding before I even had a drivers license. With it’s 2” of suspension provided by writing pen springs I almost broke my ankles many times coming down off of jumps this bike had no business taking.
