Like most of my viewers, I am riding and living in the evening of life, I am now an "older person." As we travel through live we go through several phases as described by Carl Jung. Childhood, Youth, Middle-age and Old-age. For many Old-age is the time when we start to put things together and think about is really important in life.

I concur with SteelHorseman. Being a Christian since my early years, I never had to search for the meaning of life or worry much about death. This has been very liberating for me and allowed me to enjoy all phases of life. BTW, I am 64 also. 😁

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." As a believer in Jesus that is a wonderful promise to have in your back pocket every time you head out for a ride! Whether you are young or old, having assurance of everlasting life ahead with God gives a peace that is unmatched!

I am 64, retired from 2 “careers” and just lost my 3rd son (and youngest) out of 4. I am prepping for a month-ish long solo bike ride on my ST1300 in September. My original plan was the 4 Corners USA ride but I have already ridden though all of the states west of the Mississippi River. So I refocused the soul-searching ride on the missing states east, visiting family and friends along the way. Several of my buddies have passed, or are going through cancer treatment, etc. While none of my friends have lost children, we are all in the “last season” and careers have kept most of us flung far away. I hope reconnect . . . both in spirit, with my losses, and to prepare for my cancer surgery after my ride. I actually studied Jung in my undergrad days so many decades ago. I never thought I would be living his theories, but here I am! I get a lot out of your videos and perspectives. Keep up the great messages.

Thanks very much for your videos! I retired a year ago at age 51 after 32 years of policing. I have been struggling with retirement and your video helped put some things in perspective. I'm an avid motorcycle rider and I'm embarking on a 3 month road trip from Ontario Canada out to California touring Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Wyoming and South Dakota. Keep up the great videos!

Great insight Craig. I turned 80 this March. I am in great shape, I ride my VStrom 650XT regularly. I was made redundant at 76 years, due to Covid lock downs. I was a Coach driver for Greyhound Australia and enjoyed this career change after I retired from an executive position in the building industry at 61 years of age. My Dad passed away at age 86. I asked him before he passed if he was afraid of dying. His reply was a valuable gift to me. He said. “ Well if there is something after this life, I have something to look forward to and if there is nothing, then I have nothing to be afraid of” I hope others can find as much wisdom in that comment as I did.

Very well said. I'm 67 and have been riding since I was 13 and flying airplanes since my early 20's. I know both of those hobbies will likely be ending in the next few years. I was fortunate to be able to retire early so I could squeeze that lemon really hard for a few years! I realized a few years ago that "stuff" I had been hanging onto for years and hadn't touched needed to go. I think that comes with ones admission of old age. I was never the smartest one in school or in my profession but I soon realized that just by being nice and treating people as I wanted to be treated opened more doors for me than my intellect (or lack of) ever could. I hope I have a few more years to row my boat gently down the stream! Thanks for posting this video, it's very relatable.

As a 64 year old motorcyclist I found this to be a relevant and thought provoking video. As we mature we come to acknowledge that we will always be 'a work in progress' and that a good life can be a subtle life.....for me personally 'The Fruits of the Spirit' are a good barometer and this reference point will hopefully impact on those around me in a positive way. I agree that riding a motorcycle through natural landscapes can be a sublime experience and in the grand scheme of things these moments are fleeting - what a privilege! Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

I never would have thought I'd see spiritual content from you, and I'm both surprised and very glad about it. I lived a really selfish life until about age 60, when I discovered the God of the Universe (or maybe He found me?), and my life has never been the same. That's my purpose: to serve and love others, and to serve and honor Him. Now at 75 I'm about to buy my third bike, first in 15 years, to do something fun and different (and my daughters are gonna flip out when they find out!). While we may disagree about our purpose, I really liked your video and I'm hoping those out there wandering around searching for meaning will find it. I have family members who are believers but have no purpose for their lives, and it's sad to see. Jim

Great video Craig. At 62, I'm beginning to get the feeling that something is on the horizon for me. I absolutely love what I do in my job. But there's something changing within that I feel very good about. Fearful?, of course. Faithful?, you bet. I believe that my best years are ahead. I too am in the evening of life, as Azul says, the youth of my older years. The yearning to declutter is definitely there. What an awesome time to be alive, and like you, I tend to not worry too much about what others are doing. My father taught me self-reliance, accountability, responsibility and to be a contributing member of society. When you look at life that way, you tend to not care so much about 'blaming' others. Your own happiness comes from within.

67yo here. I threw in the towel at 45, when I saw what a scam careers and marriage are. I've a 14 acre homestead and whilst I reckon I know what existence is all about, it doesn't make life easier. After 40 years I'm getting back on motorbikes, so as I can explore the most popular part of my home county, The Lake District, England, and find my biker buddies again.

Once again I have to smile about so many things being parallel in our lifes. Being nearly 65 years old Retired with 62 Giving away a lot of material and non-material stuff during the last few years. Thinking so many nearly identical thoughts about life, living, riding… There is one big spiritual difference: Being a cynical atheist, Jesus found me nearly 35 years ago ( I never had been searching after HIM). The fact, that the creator of the universe became human to open a way back to HIM changed everything and HIS relation to me caused a fundamental correction of my path to bring me on a way to become a very satisfied, happy person. I like your videos, they always inspire me for my own clips - thank you!

Good video! I just retired at a little over 61. I’m in great health…at least I feel that way and my doctor agrees. I’ve had a 20-year military career and another 21+ -year career with the federal gov’t. I’m ready to move on. I’m not looking for anything spiritual since I do not consider that real or tangible. I’m looking to have fun and spread that along the way. That’s it…plain and simple. It’s time to put some miles on my big Harley Ultra Ltd! Ride safe!!! PS…I totally agree about getting rid of junk! My wife and I are doing that now and it already feels great and we’re just getting started!

Craig, good thoughts. I realize everyday how rare my working life was. I loved my job. Everyday. In the last three years, I've taken to exposing today's geology students from my graduate alma mater to geologic wonderlands. Inspiring today's young people is incredibly rewarding. I don't know that I've achieved something "beyond myself", but maybe, just maybe, I have. But all the junk in my garage screams to me. The physical possessions mean nothing. Kindness and generosity cause me to realize that God has impacted me. And in that, I'm truly blessed.

I retired at 50 and worked part-time till I understood retirement completely. Made a plan with my wife to return to our favourite place in the world, a deserted beach in Uruguay. 65 in 2022 I flipped the switch and sold everything cars trucks properties and my motorcycle collection 12 bikes, we flew a private jet and our 6 cats down to the beach in Rocha UY. Some of our past came along in a 20' foot container that included our DVDs and VHS tapes our evenings are filled with memories. My wife and I picked 401 Husqvarna Svartpilens and a Suzuki Swift and we live. Ride our bicycles motorcycles living the best we can in a gentle quiet world

Meaning of life? I just want to enjoy what makes me happy until the lights go off. Then, my kids can take over in following my path or their own. My dad rode in the 1950s and 1960s before my brother and I were born. When he passed in 2006 from Cancer at age 73, I started to question. But I went on and started my business. A few years later, at age 44 I started riding. It became my way to connect with Dad's past. Continuing the path and hopefully complete some travels and adventures my dad would have like to accomplish. Life isn't a planned activity. Just have to grab the opportunity when they come.

Pretty close assessment. Over my working years, I saw and knew of co-workers that would retire and pass away shortly after. I made a promise to myself not to be in that boat. So I retired at 57 and started riding more and just slowing down the pace of my life. I bought a T120, which is more comfortable than my Goldwing, which was a dream bike, but it may soon be sold and turn into vacation cash or provide another purpose. Absolutely right, it was time to let go of a lot and just live life!

The bigger thing we are a part of is the Cosmos. Being kind (empathetic) is what has allowed us to prosper. Science has, and will continue to, give us answers and solutions. Beliefs are varied and fleeting. Enjoy the eclipse. Ride on. Cheers

Talking about hitting home. I was involved in a near fatal accident on Aug 6th. Hit & Run. I laid in a field for three hours before someone found me. I had left NC en route to Prudoe Bay. Tomorrow will be my first trip since my accident. I am 67 years old. NC to Tombstone and back. Great timing on your video. I shared on my FB page.
