Hello from Sydney, Australia. In this video, I will be exploring Sydney using its rail network. In particular, the Sydney Trains and Sydney Metro systems will be covered in this video. Now Sydney's rail network has a bit of a bad reputation but is it deserved? Find out what I think in this video.

Corrections: 1) The caption at 5:15 was meant to say "While the train noise here is quite infamous, I did not find it that bad when inside the train". 2) Also since I somehow went the whole video without mentioning the ticketing system, I'll talk about it here. The main way of ticketing is via the Opal Card, which is a contactless smartcard fare collection system for public transport services in the greater Sydney area and most other urban areas of New South Wales, Australia. In addition to the Sydney Trains and the Metro, you can also use it on the buses, light rail and even the ferries. Also you can apparently use your credit/debit card directly to pay for it, though it must be contactless-enabled. Paper tickets are no longer issued though you can instead get a Single trip Opal ticket.

Sydney Rail doesn't get a lot of hate.... Lots of people love it and use it daily. Sydney Metro is much loved and used often in the Hills District, where I live.

Sydney transport the more superior transport in Australia, hence they were the first to build a metro. Sydney also have the best trains in Australia too.

Queesland rail has way better looking trains, relatively quick trains, a big network and reasonably reliable rail which will get even better once cross river rail and Logan faster rail projects are finished. Sydney is only the first to make a metro because they need the capacity and really a metro doesn’t make it superior, it just has more money and there’s a lot more people in Sydney so Ofc they are going to catch the train

@@FrosstyOfficialQueensland? Lmao the delusion. Im not even from sydney but Brisbane is not even in the conversation. Its Sydney vs Melbourne and currently Sydney has the clear upper hand. Brisbane is not even close
@FrosstyOfficial
@FrosstyOfficial 6 месяцев назад
@@BLACKSTA361 I compared the two because Brisbane has its own form of a metro coming with cross river rail, it's not just Melbourne vs Sydney it's all 3. I stated that the trains are better looking and relatively quick which Sydney lacks in some parts. I also never mentioned anything about Melbourne but I do believe as someone who's been to Melbourne that Brisbane's network is better in most aspects.

Once the Sydney Metro extension to the city (CBD), the deepest station will be Victoria's Cross Metro Station (serving North Sydney), at 31 metres underground. Barangaroo Metro Station is also 25 metres underground.

Well researched and presented. Great coverage of all the issues. Sydney has great rail systems. Buses, not so much. Sadly buses were privatized recently which means it’ll get worse.
@mark123655
@mark123655 11 месяцев назад
Most of Sydney buses have been privately operated for decades.. it's only recently that the last regions have been privatised. The Government still collects and controls the fares, sets the routes and timetables. The Union campaigns against it were mostly totally false. Not that I necessarily agreed with it, but it is what it is.
@brianmorris8045
@brianmorris8045 10 месяцев назад
I heard the NSW government still owns the buses, but the running of them is by private enterprise.
@mark123655
@mark123655 10 месяцев назад
@brianmorris8045 Most. Think the Govt owns every bus bought in the last 10yrs or so, and a few depots, but some operators still own older fleet

Hearing the noises of the train, seeing the rather dubiously shaped objects hanging from the ceiling, the reservsible seats all give me a little nostalgia from when I would go all over the city during my late high school years

Sydney Metro trains are officially know as TS sets, TS set TS22 is equipped with track monitoring equipment to scan the tracks for defects while it is running passenger services, the track monitoring equipment is not visible to the public, you’d only be able to see the track monitoring equipment on TS22 if you got underneath the train and looked at the equipment from underneath

Waratah trains are not built by Downer EDI Rail, they were built by China but imported by Downer which was merely a contractor. Australia has no technical capability to build trains. The metro trains are imported but manufactured in India, based on French Alsthom design.

The western terminus of the Metro at Tallawong is having two multi-level car parks being built - the original car park filled up pretty quickly during the week!

I love your editing, and this video is very informative. However, I would recommend you try and put more emotion on your voice, and speak a bit faster as it sounds robotic and boring. But great video, you definitely should have more subscribers

Thank you for your nice words. I'll admit, I'm not the best at doing voiceovers and it is my least favorite part of video making.

I thought the voiceover was fine, also a lot of these trio reports just use text for narration, I’m sure no one would mind if you did that was well

Thank you. I didn't go to the Metro stations beyond Castle Hill because I thought the actual trip was already getting to long as it was at over 50 minutes.

Took the metro for the first time around the release date of this video to see a friend at uni. Love the clean modern look. Best part though is the noise. Makes the hottest damn sound I’ve ever heard from a train as it goes from 0 to top speed. A wonderful tri-tone acceleration.
