I flew southwest from SJC to Long Beach during COVID and the flight had 4 crew members and 5 passengers on the plane. The flight had to follow COVID Protocols with Masks and Social Distancing and there was no snack service.
Very cool video! 7:18 Those seats are mostly likely closed off with the tray tables out to prevent people from upgrading themselves to extra legroom seats. I’ve seen United do this exact thing.
You buried the lede... It's $ that under-funded systems don't want to spend the dough on to save a single life. Simple as that. The technical reasons besides ADA requirements are flimsy at best.
I might be wrong on that one. I mostly rely on memory when making these voiceovers so I must have forgotten free food that they gave on-board since I didn't take it.
Toronto moves more people in one day than ,Montreal does in 3 days , Toronto is been awarded best North American Transit many times. It is going to take the prize again , due to the new Ontario line . We are Canada's largest city .We took that away from Montreal and Toronto's is much more handicap friendly .
@@josephforest7605 You sound like so many other people in Toronto who feel this city is the so-called "center of the universe", when in fact, Toronto has a massive image problem and always feels the need to be in the spotlight. God forbid anyone has anything better than Toronto, or something Toronto doesn't have at all, because this city starts whining and crying and begging for attention.
For those who are interested, I have a video out now on Montreal's REM. You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0_sMrtFogM8.html
Took the metro for the first time around the release date of this video to see a friend at uni. Love the clean modern look. Best part though is the noise. Makes the hottest damn sound I’ve ever heard from a train as it goes from 0 to top speed. A wonderful tri-tone acceleration.
Sydney Rail doesn't get a lot of hate.... Lots of people love it and use it daily. Sydney Metro is much loved and used often in the Hills District, where I live.
Once the Sydney Metro extension to the city (CBD), the deepest station will be Victoria's Cross Metro Station (serving North Sydney), at 31 metres underground. Barangaroo Metro Station is also 25 metres underground.
Nice video. I’ve ridden the REM once so far and also enjoyed it. I’m anxious for it to open up at the airport. One point to note though, you mentioned the metro has padded seats while the REM has hard seats. The metro actually has hard seats too , I think you’re mixing the soft seats up with some other city or metro line. We had soft seats way back in the earliest days of the metro but eventually they got rid of them sometimes in the 70s or 80s.
Hearing the noises of the train, seeing the rather dubiously shaped objects hanging from the ceiling, the reservsible seats all give me a little nostalgia from when I would go all over the city during my late high school years
Waratah trains are not built by Downer EDI Rail, they were built by China but imported by Downer which was merely a contractor. Australia has no technical capability to build trains. The metro trains are imported but manufactured in India, based on French Alsthom design.
Actually the REM will cross at 3 places the metro , Bonaventure (Orange Line 2)/ Gare Centrale (REM) , McGill (Green Line 1) Édouard-Montpetit (Blue Line 5). but only the first station Gare Centrale / Bonaventure is opened right now.
I've been looking forward to this! Great video! So glad you enjoyed it, now you'll have to return for the new branches that hopefully start operation in 2024!
For the narrow section of platform at 5:28, if passengers were allowed to walk from 1 train car to the next, maybe that section could be cordoned off to allow alighting only, with boarding allowed only from other stretches of the platform that are wider
Great video and very well reaearched. Shame you didnt get to cover more of the Metro stations. The designs are pretty good imho and show a lot of variety.
Thank you. I didn't go to the Metro stations beyond Castle Hill because I thought the actual trip was already getting to long as it was at over 50 minutes.
The western terminus of the Metro at Tallawong is having two multi-level car parks being built - the original car park filled up pretty quickly during the week!

Sydney Metro trains are officially know as TS sets, TS set TS22 is equipped with track monitoring equipment to scan the tracks for defects while it is running passenger services, the track monitoring equipment is not visible to the public, you’d only be able to see the track monitoring equipment on TS22 if you got underneath the train and looked at the equipment from underneath
78 Series 1 Waratah A set trains were originally meant to be built but due to Series 1 Waratah A set A2 suffering from a severe oil spill causing severe electrical damage, A2 was scrapped and series 1 Waratah A set A80 was built to replace Waratah A2, series 1 Waratah A set A42 was involved in a crash at Richmond station on the T1 Western line, carriage D6342 which hit the buffers at Richmond is still under repair and has been temporarily replaced with a carriage from a testing Waratah A set with carriage D6379, Series 1 Waratah A set A42 is still currently in service today with carriage D6379
Well researched and presented. Great coverage of all the issues. Sydney has great rail systems. Buses, not so much. Sadly buses were privatized recently which means it’ll get worse.
Most of Sydney buses have been privately operated for decades.. it's only recently that the last regions have been privatised. The Government still collects and controls the fares, sets the routes and timetables. The Union campaigns against it were mostly totally false. Not that I necessarily agreed with it, but it is what it is.
