I think, in a way, she didn't mind the idea of being a mother. She hated sitting and doing nothing. Hated the thought of being a trophy

She didn't despise being a mother. She knew all too well how it would shackle her, and that is what she despised. The fact she was seen as nothing but a walking womb to men, and not a competent person with actual skills.

She was young, yes. But she did have time to know her mother and have her as an example for parenting. I don’t know much about Aemma, but I imagine Rhaenyra was especially precious to her after losing her other children.

The children she had to deal the deal for the iron throne😂😂She loved power. Her children were born to keep her legitimacy alive.

I mean most kids/teens go around saying they’ll never want kids and will never change their minds but once they become adults most of them eventually have them (and love them) anyway. I don’t think she genuinely hated the idea of being a mom. She was just young, and like most young people her idea of a perfect life is basically just having fun/new exciting experiences and that’s it. She was probably worried motherhood would make her lose her identity but quickly discovered that’s not necessarily true and ended up loving her children no matter what -like most people irl do.

she would have been contented as a wife to a man younger than her best friend's father. or just as rhaenyra's handmaiden. in truth she never wanted spotlight, she just wanted a tranquil life & she certainly would've never gotten that at the targaryen court.

She’s always a good wife. She proved she was. She was just hateful to her children because of her childhood was ripped away from her and the reason her babies were there was because of a greater purpose that made her hate every second of it (marrying and fucking the old nasty King). If she could have married someone else she would be a great wife and mother

@@AveryBui1402 to be honest she isn't the worst mother we've gotten in the asoiaf universe. & it's honestly understandable she was never properly able to come into motherhood as she was still a child when she had her children; she grew up alongside them. she isn't perfect by any means but she does love her children, i don't think she hates them. specially helaena, her clear favorite.

@@jyotirani8187 i am not sure. i don't think helaena will exactly resent her, as there was literally nothing alicent could've done to prevent what happened. but she'll probably won't feel as safe in alicent's chambers as before (she ran straight there, as she visits regularly & is probably one of the few places she feels safe in). but given what we've been shown in the trailer with jaehaerys' funeral, she doesn't seem to not care for her mother anymore (she reaches for alicent's hand while running).

The options were Laena, who was 12, or Alicent, who was 16 and someone who comforted him after his wife died. And once Aegon was born, they needed Helaena to be born so he could have a sister-wife and thus make his rule even more legitimate. They could've stopped there but I'm sure Otto directed Alicent to have as many children as she could. The blame is not solely on Viserys, Otto and the other council members are at fault too.

Other than that, he did nothing wrong, yes he did cut Aemma open to get his child, but you could see he didn't really want to do it. People forget we're still humans and will always make mistakes. Another mistake was not marrying Daemon and Rhaenyra sooner. It would have solved most of the conflicts they now have. Plus he still wanted Rhaenyra as heir! They much prefer to give dragons to a male Targaryen in hopes of keeping them faithful to their house. If a princess had a dragon and marry a high lord then it's possible their dragon riding children may challenge the Targaryen house 3. Idk.. maybe they dont care or was not given a dragon egg to bond with at birth
