Lake Powell is like a dream ride destination. Still would go even with the water level ridiculously low. Would still be totally FREAKING AWESOME!!!….Thanks for the ride.
Really nice to go along this trip with you guys ~ a kayak would be crazy here. All good wishes to You ~ Tina. You have your hands full with Jerryeeee!!
Amazing Jerry and Tina, you guys rocked... wonderful filming and editing. I know there a lot of work that goes behind this 12 min, love your enthusiasm....looking forward for more....
Definitely cool. Once upon a time on the way to Las Vegas with a friend stopped by there and hiked, tramped, camped, swam, jumped, floated, fished, explored, discovered (before jet skis were invented) and just had plain old fashion grown up kids fun there amazingly unexpectedly. Major stand out moment, want the world to know of it. That it's shrinking maybe go bye, hope not, but is nature's rule: One door closes another one opens.
Very cool. Never jet skied but can totally appreciate some FREAKING AWESOME THROTTLE TIME!! 🥰 Glad to see you two having some Lake time fun !! Except for the 6am parking lot 😉
Jerry 'Seadoo' Arizona!! love it man! great vid once again.. and you could totally rock that Ace Ventura hairstyle! It is crazy (and sad) to see how many of our lakes are drying up... we aren't even in summer yet.
Wow, Lake Powell is really low. Lone Rock is completely out of the water. Cool riding up those flooded slot canyons. That looked like great fun. And happy birthday to Tina.
Tina says thank you. It was a blast. And it's insane that you can literally walk out to Lone Rock. A couple years back, we camped on the beach and there were house boats anchored out there partying it up all night long.
I took a boat out here when the water levels were much higher... it looks VERY different now. It's incredible how much the reservoir as dropped.... Safe Travels 🙏
@@JerryArizona Honestly I saw how you wanted to go down the dry slot... That was mostly quick sand... super sketchy... but I'd be one of the first out there hiking if it opens up. God Bless 🙏
Keep Glen Canyon dam. If you need to route or pump water around it fine, but keep the dam. It might be needed in a flood year which still could happen some year
Wonderful to see the current diminished lake. I circumnavigated it in a canoe in 1983, over 300 miles, rented houseboats in the later 80s and bought and kept my own boat there at Big Water from 1993-2002 when I repatriated it to NJ when the lake started to seriously dry up. My favorite canyon for camping was Gunsight. I noticed no sign of the annoying Navajo Generating Station in the background while you were going around Wahweap Bay and guess it is gone? Over the years I have come to want to see the dam be demolished and the area allowed to return to its natural state. Maybe nature will take care of that itself. It almost succeeded before when there was too much water.
@@JerryArizona I try to make it out that way every couple years. I lived in Peoria when I was little. Hoping to move to Utah or Arizona someday but I don't think my company has any locations out there so it may be a bit before I could move from Minnesota because I do love the company I work for! I could maybe swing fully remote status after I've been with them a bit longer 🤞
@@JerryArizona glad you could share it. Made me smile.... Just love it there. I usually stay in Page... and wander around to the other parks. Might get back there in October.
I think it is interesting that you noticed and called out Knockers. That boat sank less than a month later in a storm. Looks like you had a great time exploring. Cool Video!
@@JerryArizona Afternoon storms can bring in some pretty solid winds. If a houseboat has an engine failure, then it can get blown up against the walls in a channel where the waves will just pound it, fill the bilge faster than the pumps can remove it and eventually sink the boat. It can be pretty scary. If you search Knockers Houseboat on RU-vid, you can see pictures and video of it after it sunk.
Nice vid you guys, finely did a vid where I have gone many times, I started boating their in my early 20s. It’s what gave me my love for slot canyons. We would mid summer when the temps were up to 120 sometimes . We would take the boat into the narrow canyons to escape the sun. My kids have great memories there for sure. We camped out of bullfrog as well. All beautiful.
yet another great video Jerry. thanks for taking along on your adventures. After watching both video from Lake Powell. If you had one day and could do only the jetski ride around or the kayak and hike, what one would you recommend?
I enjoyed both, but I definitely like jet skis over paddling. It costs more, but you see so much more of the lake. I want to say we put 100 miles on these things in a single day.
If you don’t mind what were the settings in the GoPro? I’ve never seen footage from a GoPro that doesn’t look super saturated or super digitally sharp. Loved the footage.
You can go into protune (I think that's what it's called) and lower sharpness to low. I think this was shot on flat color profile but this was an 8 or 10. I really like the natural color profile on the 11. (Don't have a 12.) It's almost unwatchable with sharpness on any setting besides low. Reminds me of mobile phone video.
@@JerryArizona Absolutely man! I live on the east coast but I routinely travel out to this region for leisure as a photographer, and your videos do such a good job at informing, but also showing the beauty and reasons why these places are worth coming back over and over again to. I'll be returning here end of this month! Thanks for pushing out such great content!
Glad Tina’s better. On a side note could you make a video on how to get into technical canyoneering? I really want to start doing it but, I don’t even know where to begin.
I'm not experienced enough to do that type of thing. I've done quite a few canyons, but haven't put in the time to learn all the things I need to know to be as competent at it as I'd like. If you want to start out, take some classes with a qualified company. I always recommend AZ Rock and Canyon Adventures here in Phoenix. Tom Seeley is a great guy. He even took Tina and I out with his group just to be nice. He can also probably point you in the direction to meet people who would go out and show you the (literal) ropes.
@@JerryArizona thanks for the recommendation. I live in Phoenix so I’ll have to look into that. Also you might want to check this book out for stepping up your canyoneering game, Todd Martin Arizona Technical canyoneering. It’s a pretty high quality guide book but, I don’t think I could justify the cost with my inexperience. Thanks again.
April/May, I think. The Seadoos aren't cheap. I want to say like $1,200 for both for the full day but can't remember exactly. I left a link where we rented them in the description. I'm not affiliated with the company or anything, but they were great and I recommend them. I know there are other places up there so I recommend you look online and compare prices and options.
It's sad the lake is so low, but it's also a unique opportunity to see places that haven't been exposed since the dam was built. This was a unique trip for us and an absolute blast.
Awesome footage. We're thinking of going this April. How many hours was your overall outing? How long did it take you to get from the launch to your first slot canyon? Thanks
I was having too much fun to pay attention to the times. I listed the website in the description, so you can call them and ask what they do for rental periods. It was an absolute blast though and highly recommended. Too expensive to do often, but worth it at least once.
Very cool! Could you have done antelope canyon with the jet-skis instead of kayaking there? and then continuing with the jet skis to Labyrinth Canyon& Face Canyon? We're thinking of doing that
They do allow motorized watercraft into Antelope. But when we were there, there is nowhere you could really land the thing to get out and hike. Outside of anchoring in the deep water and swimming in. I have a video of the recent conditions I released a couple weeks ago you can check out to see what I mean. One of the two - I think it was Labyrinth - that we did looked like you could land a jet ski and get out and hike. I say something about hiking it in this video. That might be a better option.
It's been a minute, but maybe 8~10 hours? We had spare fuel cans on the jet skis and had to stop and refuel toward the end of the day. I believe I put the place we rented them from in the description.
You think that's a freakin great trip for your birthday - ? Just try jet skiing around the crystal clear springs in Florida! Powell ain't got nothin on beautiful clear water in those springs!
Yeah, I figured we were not using all the right terms. But like I said, we're hikers. For people like us who don't do this type of thing often, they're all called 'jet skis'. I get it though. When you ARE experienced it's annoying to hear the wrong terms used. I'm not changing the title though; nobody is searching "Riding Seadoos on Lake Powell."
Some Folk are Just Not Boaters and looking at your video I would say you are those people Stay on the trails You should not boat when the waters are that low to much danger.
The main channel was over 350' deep. I'd say we had clearance. Sure, you had to watch for rocks outside of the channel, but that's always the case regardless of water level.
